You’re supposed to take it off pre-surgery but not everyone does. I mean she didn’t stop smoking either.

Same with me but-I've had 20+ operations in my lifetime and originally I was never allowed to wear nail polish. I believe it had something to do with needing to check the color of nailbeds? (I could be wrong though) But ultimately they weren't making a big deal of it. And I too, smoked-right up till I got to the hospital. Believe it or not-they never told me why I shouldn't. (aside from a common sense angle lol). I was always too anxious beforehand. However, I have grown up since then. lol

Euphoric-Moment

The pulse oximeter goes on your finger to monitor blood oxygen levels. They can also stick one to your ear if absolutely necessary.

I started having surgeries in the '90's. Were they around then? I honestly don't remember. Having said that I now have my own I use a few times a day...boy times sure have changed.

Euphoric-Moment

I don’t know! I have colitis so started getting put under for testing around 2010. They always ask for no nail polish and stick the thing on my finger. I just do what I’m told because I’m kind of scared not to lol. I’m seeing a lot of responses saying you can wear nail polish now. My last procedure was in April and they told me to remove it. I guess different hospitals have different rules.

sidneyluv

Maybe it is dependent on the place? I had surgery in November 2019 and I didn’t have to have my gel manicure removed

Comprehensive-Ad4656

It's not ideal to have it on but you can.

Euphoric-Moment

Must be!

sheknowsecret1

Oh I'm sorry to hear that. Being chronically ill really sucks and I know I don't have to tell you that. I used to google everything-testing etc and only freaked myself out. lol. At this point I'm now the same as you. I do what I'm told.

cinaminnca

Oxygen monitoring equipment these days will read through polished nails and even fake nails! Source: I work in post surgery care :)

sheknowsecret1

Whoops. I posted my response above before I saw this. Sorry.

tragic_magic_world

I've had multiple surgeries with nail polish on. It's not required not have it on.

sidneyluv

Same! I get a manicure every two weeks and I NEVER removed my gel for procedures

Jdarkbloom

Looks real to me.

cinaminnca

Yep. It’s real. There’s even good blood return in the IV meaning good position in the vein.

Successful_Strategy8

I know a few people who had surgery with their nail polish on.

oooomami

I’ve had nail polish on before my surgeries. No one ever told me to take it off. My guess is she wanted her nails done ahead of time because she wouldn’t be able to get them done for a while during recovery. I’ve also had about 40 IVs since September. This one looks legit to me.

seche314

I forgot to remove my polish for brain surgery and I woke up with all of it still on

Zemykitty

Maybe that's why you can't be on birth control??? /s

seche314

Psh I know you’re just jelly of my teeth

CellularPurgatory

Lemme guess... your google degree on IVs tells you were all gonna be carriers of 5G!!!!!

Comprehensive-Ad4656

The nails can stay on and the IV is real.

rcybak

Wait, they normally make you remove your nail polish before surgery? WTF?

p0or-scientist

Yes so they can see if your nails turn blue on case the oxygen levels in your blood change. Just a safety measure

sidneyluv

Technology now actually doesn’t need it removed 😊

Zemykitty

Yeah, that's like a field tactic. Now they just hook you up same as your heart rate & BP.

rcybak

I did not know that. You are cool

Remarkable-Mango-159

Yea its real... yall read to much into the dumbest shit

stephanienich

Damn her Dr fine as hell!

Adventurous-Mud-685

Last surgery I had, no jewelry, no makeup, no polish. Of, that was 30 years ago. So many medical advances since.

Ten_Lee

Last surgery I had--4 years ago--the instructions most definitely stated no nail polish, and the pre-op nurses had bottles of polish remover on the counter in case anyone thought the instruction was there just to fill in a blank space on the paper.

anicocogucciani

I would have been livid with this dr for taking too much breast ... her boobs are so small now and shes a big/tall woman ....he should have not made a decision on his own without the pt's consent

AshtonKechamall

No makeup, no nail polish, food
