Me on my way to work
Just another monday morning...
🎵wish it was Sunday, cause that’s my fun day🎵
I bet he aint happy
It’s dead but brain keeps it moving because of the parasite.
Doesn’t that make it climb trees though? And also wouldn’t it be a lot more uncoordinated and I don’t know, fungal like?
I am just asking questions, I really don’t know. The pictures of the fungus online show either a completely covered spider, or an ant that seems normal until it is anchored then a stalk pops out of its head.
There are horse hair worms as well and they go to water. Not sure what's in that video though.
That's a primarily ant fungus, not uncommon but they're many other funguses.
This is my fungus, there are many like it but this one is mine.
Isn’t the plural for fungus fungi?
Yes, ophicordecyps acts by placing pressure on a region in the ants brain that signals to get somewhere high, it’s somewhat analogous to a brain tumour pressuring our brains and causing hallucinations and such.
There's more controlling parasites than just those fungus.
Like the Goa'uld
> Doesn’t that make it climb trees though?
The zombie tree climbing fungus is Cordyceps, although there could be others. If I had to guess, this looks like some other parasite laid its eggs in this insect and they chewed their way out, but I didn’t think that was survivable.
This is a cicada plug, another variant of fungus that causes a cicada's entire lower body to rot away, and causes the cicada to be incredibly sexually aggressive. Horny bug zombies.
Makes you wonder how many humans are infected with some kind of zombie fungus and we don’t know it
Many many people are infected with toxoplasma gondii.
*corrected spelling, ty
Makes you like cats or something right?
Yeah, part of it's lifecycle requires being ingested by cats. Usually this parasite is found in rodents, and it forces them to seek out the smell of cat urine, and be a little bolder (scurrying outside of cover, in daylight, things like that), so that it will get caught and consumed by the cat.
It's theorized that "crazy cat lady" syndrome is the result of an infestation of this parasite, but rather than forcing the person to go out and leave their cats, it encourages the host to stay near the cats, in the hopes that the cats will consume the host (it does this by messing with how the person smells/processes cat urine, just like rodents). That may be why crazy cat people tend to be shut-ins, the parasite wants them to be with cats.
I've read evidence to support it may increase risk taking behaviors, I hadn't heard about the urine thing tho
I'm on my phone and can't be assed to dig it up, but the theory behind being attracted to cat urine is that it's basically an easy smell to follow, and where there is cat urine, there is probably a cat whose gut the parasite wants to end up in.
Edit: This isn't the article I remember reading, but it says a lot of the same things https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/are-cats-responsible-for-ldquo-cat-ladies-rdquo/
Is this...real? This is the best thing I've ever read.
Yup, here's a link https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/are-cats-responsible-for-ldquo-cat-ladies-rdquo/
Another endemic “disease” is loneliness. What came first the litter or the isolation?🤔
Oh my gosh. You’ve wrecked me for the night.
I think I have that so bad lol
Hard to say. It mostly spreads from handling cat litter then eating before washing your hands, so it goes without saying that most infected people are cat owners. So when you ask a bunch of infected people (who own cats), and a bunch of non infected people (who likely don't own cats) if they like cats, you probably wouldn't be surprised that the people who own cats like cats.
Kinda akin to saying if you drive a sports car you will make more money, because obviously most people driving $100000 cars are not low income.
Also increases depression, and something about coffee it think, but I might be conflating depression and coffee statistics.
I think 80% of cat owners are infected. Maybe more
It's only around 30 to 50 percent.
I was supposed to cat-sit two cats in my home this weekend. After reading this I have changed my mind.
If you're not touching litter of outdoor cats, you're at no risk
Why? Cats are fun.
This guy's infected
Also increases the risk of schizophrenia.
just phase 1 of the feline domination plan
I love that under the "prevention" section that's a bullet point that just says "have somebody else clean your cat litter boxes."
Indications also that Toxo is driving schizophrenia. Majority of suffers are toxo positive.
I'm sure they also have herpes too. Correlation isn't causation, and until there's multiple sources saying it i wouldn't put much weight behind that statement.
>having cats and HPV
haha, I’m in danger
This made me laugh and I needed it
My cats don’t think I’m crazy tho.
You should hear what they say about you when you're not looking
Oh, I know.
It's simple, tiktokers
Do you realize that if we stopped creating division between everything we would all be far more connected to each other? Tik tok has people you will never agree with just like here. Both have a lot of cringe stuff too.
Yes I know it was a joke.
Careful-The last guy that tried to get us to forgive and love each other got crucified...
So be it. It all starts with small acts that no one is wanting to do. Even if it's just a smile when you make eye contact with a stranger. We all are the same no matter who.
Love and cherish each other because we haven't made it this far in civilization without depending on each other.
But most importantly Love yourself and let go of pain and hate. Don't forget them but release them to heal!
Unfortunately the disposable mindset has grown to include people and since social media has supplanted actual community there's no need to reconcile (or even care) for the people around us.
Then let's change it. Seriously, what's stopping us. Not everyone can be reached but the ones who can are worth it.
What's stopping us from building a city to challenge the current standards?
Doing what I can! We will overcome.. There are dozens of us! DOZENS!
... of course I guess the first push started with a dozen too ;)
anti vaxxers. walking talking dead people.
So is the parasite like venom?
Reddit knows like 5 things and thinks they apply everywhere.
Definitely sarcoidosis. DEFINITELY!!!!!!
I think its cordyceps, same fungus from the last of us (its real) but in a much smaller scale.
Naw doesn't look like cordyceps. That infects healthy individuals and then does it business of rewiring. This is just eaten from the inside or outside but the head is still intact
Oh god, the same misinformation from the last thread is already spreading.
This bug does not have cordyceps. Hes about 2 minutes from dying after being mostly eaten alive.
Exactly. Idk why everyone is so sure its cordyceps or any kind of parasite that controls the mind of the insect. Maybe its wishful thinking since its more interesting than a bug who escaped being eaten completely.
They're sure of it because they've read it on here the last time it was posted
Disregard this comment section! It's a false flag! Everyone in here is working for the spores to make us ignore the spore threat. THE SPORES ARE COMING *I've said too much* they found me! Eglblerbagaghergkhkf
How nice of them to submit the comment for you!
Cease your investigations. There are no such thing as cloud people. This comment is made by human.
Absolutely not. This bug was eaten by something and will be dead soon, there's no parasites involved.
this is even creepier O\_O
So it’s a literal zombie
Noeee it's not dead, ur talking about the fungal spores that force insects upwards.
This is a WASP situation I believe and its basically living on borrowed time as it can't eat or digest.
Looks like me after my divorce
He looks buzzed
Just a shell of his former self
How I looked coming out of my last relationship.
Sorry, wholesome was the only reward I had
Quality fucking comment right there
Damn. That hit home for me.
Lmfaoooooo this deserves an award 😭
This deserves an award.
I mean cookies would be nice…
Edit: Also WOOHOO!! I’ve never had an award before. Thank you kind redditor!
Buddy, I don't think you have been given an award now.
I see tons of those in Germany. They are called [Maikäfer](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maik%C3%A4fer) ("May Bug"). This one has been mostly eaten by ants, which is a common sight.
They live as larvae in the earth, then emerge during late spring every 3-5 years and fly en masse. I could usually hear them bump into our housewall and windows during the evening. If they can't get off the ground fast enough or get injured from bumping into a wall too hard, the ants usually get them.
Apparently these are also known as Cockchafers.
>Melolontha is a genus of beetles in the family Scarabaeidae. The European cockchafers belong to this genus.

Oh wow really? I didn't know that! But I wonder how is it still moving??
Insects don't die of blood loss, they breathe through trachae. Since the nerves in the front part of the animal weren't damaged it will continue until it dies of thirst/hunger or is eaten.
It won't be for long. Also the fungus theory is utter bullshit, the fungus doesn't animate dead tissue, it hijacks the nervous system.
Like, insects just don't bleed out in the same way we do, so they can survive for a bit without immediately critical organs. Heck, if the wound is sealed, humans can survive for a bit with similar injuries, like not for long, but for a bit.
It helps that they don't need lungs and have multiple hearts
Don’t the have book lungs?
I think only spiders have book lungs. Most insects have just simple spiracles.
Oh and dragonfly larvae, from what I remember, have gills in their butts.
Thats just spiders! Insects have a passive respiratory system where tube of air called spiracles feed oxygen directly from the outside world to their tissue!
Tis but a scratch!
He shall say ni if you do not appease him
No you are mistaken-he has moved on to “Ekky-ekky-ekky-ekky-z'Bang”
A scratch? Your back is gone!
No it’s not!
I've had worse.
Agreed… rub some dirt on it and he’ll be fine.
Their biology is drastically different than a mammal, its brain is still working and it can still breathe, it will likely live until it starves or dies of dehydration.
Well, if a human's brain is still working and they can still breathe, they also tend to be alive until they die too.
Most things are alive until they die.
Who are you, who is so wise in the ways of science?
Death is the number one cause of human fatalities.
Only people who are alive would believe that.
If the end goal is death, is it safe to say that 100% of the time they’re alive?
No because I don't understand what you're talking about
Every 60 seconds in Africa, a minute passes
Life needs things to live.
Humans tend to bleed out if you scrape out all the other bits, though.
No he's saying that's it, those are the ways it can die. We die from those plus: blood loss, shock, infection, lack of kidney filtration, not to mention that because we're vertebrates good luck moving around like that champ still can with your abdomen missing.
[So many dumb ways to die](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJNR2EpS0jw)
I think they are talking about how our circulatory and nervous systems work, if we rupture a pipe, we go down pretty fast. I believe that insect don't rely on the circulatory system as much so carving one out like this obviously doesn't stop them.
Well then YOU try surviving until starvation or dehydration kills you while having no major organs save your heart, lungs and brain
People die when they are killed
I know a good percentage of people that live without a functioning brain.
Its a cicada at its reproductive stage, he doesn't need the extra weight, spends all day screaming ME SEX, ME SEX, ME SEX, he just wants a little love and isn't going to stop till he finds it.
Looking like he does I'm pretty sure he won't get any. :(
It's not a cicada. It's some sort of scarab beetle.

Vastly underrated comment
Didn't even bother to change the title of your repost huh
Clearly that's not necessary. They have nothing to hide.
Must be bugged.
I am not even mad. I did call you a mother fucker while laughing tho. Idk what thats was about.
dude just end its suffering
Man, I just feel so empty these days, life just feels, I dunno, hollow somehow
He's fine until he gets home and his spouse asks how his day was.
Never eat an on empty stomach.
Nature, uh, finds a way…
Government drone obviously
You mean a so-called “bird”?
birds aren't real
He’s just walking it off
Can insects actually feel pain ? Or is it more of a sence that they are damaged ??
Hull breach at sector 12
His spiritual emptiness was running at at a lower empty, than ever. But he knew that he would eventually survive the overwhelming void in his life......
Some bugs can still survive with just their heads lol
Power of friendship
Edit: thank for the award haha. The power of friendship pulling trough once again!
Probably that zombie fungi took over.
It’s not, there would be a fruiting body emerging from the insect and Cordyceps (no matter the species) doesn’t eat the tissue like that. It looks like this insect just got wrecked by a bird
That doesn’t explain half his body missing
I once read on a post on this in the past that it probably got eaten by a bird, but also got away. It has the means to stay alive but even if it isn’t eaten it probably didn’t live for weeks after, probably hours or days.
It only needs the brain to stay “alive”
It has a way less complicated circulatory system than we do.
Yeah, I meant to say nervous system but I got lazy and didn’t edit.
You are right.
The zombie fungus doesn’t decay the body though. Plus I thought it typically infects ants in the tropics.
No but other animals might have started eating it while it was wounded.
“Excuse me…. Just trying to make it to my grave…”
This might be parasitic wasp offspring eating it from the inside out. They can do some really funky things requiring the host’s body to keep it alive and dedicating all its energies to providing for them. I highly recommend the book “Parasite Rex” by Carl Zimmer.
Came here for witty bug talk…Thanks for taking the political shit out if this post.
'Tis but a flesh wound.
"Sir, what's wrong?"
"Nothing, I just feel a bit empty inside..."
You can see it’s back leg doesn’t work anymore, probably got just enough meat left to make a run for it
It’s because bugs, and other lower operating organisms like lobsters and jellyfish, don’t have a centralized brain. They have many smaller brains called neuroganglia scattered throughout the nervous system. Humans have them in our spines and they are responsible for involuntary movement like the beating of your heart and muscle reactions. Having a decentralized brain is the reason chickens can walk or run around with their heads cut off or how fish can survive while missing the top half of their skull.
You’re mistaken, fish and chickens are vertebrates like humans and have centralised nervous systems. Chickens run around headless because the nerve cords in their spine that control movement are triggered by the head being cut off and fish continue to swim while missing parts of their brain because sometimes the missing part isn’t a part involved in controlling movement.
Chickens do not have a decentralized brain.
Their brain is located at the base of their skull. If they are decapitated in the wrong way they can live a long time.
However most animals with a central nervous system will continue moving after decapitation; it's easy for chickens to keep walking because it takes so few muscles for them to walk.
I’ve seen roaches walking, with no head. Nothing surprises me anymore
Their biology is compartmentalized, compared to mammals at least.
That's me on a Wednesday wishing for the weekend...
If you’ve ever seen Tremors 2:Aftershocks you know exactly what’s going on here. This is a whole new goddamn ball game, folks.

It's just a __bug__
How is it that february is laughable?
It's a reference to a character called "Funny Valentine" from the Jojo manga, and his name is reference to a music with similar name. My avatar is also a reference to him
Apologize my lack of knowledge in this type of stuff.
No need to apologize. My nick is kinda weird and I know that
But...but.... Where does the food go?
It's not. You're looking at the very start of the zombie apocalypse.
This is a pretty accurate visual representation of how I feel IRL.
Looks familiar to antivaxx people. Empty brain yet they still moving.
