Welcome to Covid response 2019, America.

moobycow

This whole thing has really brought home how dysfunctional we are. We just don't have the tools & capacity of other governments to deal with this sort of thing. If it can't be shot, blown up or thrown in jail, we don't know what to do.

Watching America from outside has made me very sad for you guys. Since Trump was elected, even before Covid, there have been clear signs of social and political decay. I hope this get better without another bloody war.

We did this in Australia and it is quite accurate but also showed a lot of Covid in the sewerage of an area when no cases where known at the time. It was weeks ahead

kril89

They have known all this since January of 2020. They knew this stuff from SARS. Source is me. I’m a sewer treatment plant operator and was getting memos on this in March of 2020 from the CDC.

They can even sequence the samples to see what variants and mutations are in that area. One state, i think it was Ariazona, is even tracking other viruses influenza and some others as well. Australia did a trial of testing wastewater on airplanes to check for covid as back up to preflight testing which caught more cases because people shed virus in feces even before they shed enough to be tested in the nose or throat swab **Wastewater testing takes flight in the fight against COVID-19** In an extra line of defence against COVID-19, Australia’s national science agency, CSIRO, has analysed wastewater samples from long haul flights of returning Aussies which prove signals of the SARS-CoV-2 virus can be detected even before passengers show symptoms. https://www.csiro.au/en/news/News-releases/2021/Wastewater-testing-takes-flight-in-the-fight-against-COVID-19 also https://www.voanews.com/a/australian-study-screens-airline-wastewater-for-covid-19-/6277999.html direct link to the study https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0160412021005638

For further context all Australian States have been regularly testing sewerage treatment plants for Covid to identify areas to focus on. Here is an example state; https://www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/wastewater-testing

xbillybobx

They’ve been doing this in Singapore for some time now. Once they find traces of Covid, the whole neighborhood is required to go get tested.

Wow things have really gone to shit

eric_reddit

Imagine if you could test at every property junction

meeranda

This has already been happening in Colorado. The treatment plant I work at was doing it right off the bat in conjunction with the health department and universities.

That's not how this tool works, your joke is not funny but thanks for flaunting your ignorance.

Too soon. Makes you look like a Herman Cain Award recipient.

Surprised we don’t do fecal samples first before nasal swabs then. Like they would check for c-diff. Super easy, doesn’t hurt or anything. We could get a huge advantage
