Lived in Ohio my whole life. Seen these my whole life. Is this a grasshopper? It was on my wall in Grafton Ohio.

Tell that to my son, they are his arch nemesis!
My half-brother hates all bugs and is terrified of them
You should take him through the bug house at the Cincy Zoo.
I picked one up to show a friend and had it cupped, it was a large one and it bit! I was very shocked, I'd held large grasshoppers and other katydid before, never been bit but this one was so big i had to show...she said no
To be fair, if a giant came along and picked me up, cupping their hands over me, I'd probably bite too.
But I'm right there with you, I'm always surprised when critters bite me. I have a stupid spot in my brain that thinks every animal should love me and want to be friends.
Whattttt they hurt like a bitch when they bite!!!
Fair! I was thinking pain = harm but I get ya!
When Black Friday comes
You can see it in her eyes.
So that’s what a katydid is!! I’ve heard the name before, but everyone I knew growing up just called them “leaf bugs” and I assumed that was what they were actually called
Katydid. They’re loud af. They are the sound of summer. They’re a part of that nighttime nature music we hear. They can actually say their names when they make noise “k-tee, k-tee, kt-did, kt-did”. They make a lot of different sounds.
I thought the cicadas were the sound of summer
They can make sounds similar to cicadas. But katydids are the night dudes. Katydid songs are also a good indicator of the end of summer & the introduction of fall.
Katydid and crickets play their sonatas all night long.
Sorta. People confuse these guys with cicadias. Cicadias are more active in the morning and at sunset. They also make a humming or buzzing sound.
Cicadias may or may not be annually in your location. I just found a cicadia this year (green guy, so annual) in Trumbull county, though it could have been swept up from the hurricane down south.
Katydids are active in the day and are yearly. They are also larger than a cicadia, almost scary big.
I’m in NWOH and there are TONS of cicadas out right now. One smacked me in the face on my bike ride yesterday.
I always wondered what those bugs were.
What did Katy do
Bro they everywhere here in the country! Me and my brothers use to let them bite us and they hurt 😂
What she do?
Hey neighbor! Medina checking in.
Oh Shi- Medina here too!
Ohdamn, that means we have to do battle at dawn inside the abandoned kmart!
aight, y’all Medina clowns wanna meet at the taco bell or DQ beforehand for snacks?
Bruh, the one by the old kmart is STILL closed. They were building a new one right next to the old one and hit a water main so they had to close the old taco bell early
damn!! I moved out of Medina 2 years ago, but going back next week to visit family. I’ll have to pay my respects at the Tbell grave, best post-work snacks when i was in hs 😔
I'm in Wooster.
Yea tried to go to tbell other day and it's torn down haha
I escaped Elyria 8mo ago.
Also from Elyria, about to move in two weeks.

It was so nice there 30 years ago :(

I have been known to drive 2 hours to get there just for some Miller's Meats
Katydid, they make a "quacking" sound
I love hearing them. I look forward to it!
Listening to a few Katydids chatter outside right now!
Grafton here too! I love these guys
Oh no, the Grafton Monster has made its way here!
I just see a leaf idgi ^^/s
It's late Dad, go to bed.
This is the second post mentioning Grafton in the past week….
We’re taking over the sub.
One of these at the outside bar the other day, it was chilling in a beer someone left. My friend plucked it out after a time, and it staggered around drunkenly for like 5 minutes, until eventually my friend released it back into the bushes over a fence. Party hard, little bug.
Once upon a time, a bird was flying south for the cold winter months ahead, and had been aloft for some time, when it landed on a small branch of a great old oak, who had seen many years.
"Where are you going?" Asked the great oak.
"To the forest by the gulf shore," replied the bird. "For my journey is long, and I have much land to cross before I rest again."
The oak began to imagine rivers and and valleys, deserts and mountains - places he'd heard of from weary travelers who'd camp under his big branches from time to time.
"Oh, how I wish I could come with you," longed the great oak. "I've watched the same trees lose their leaves every autumn, and grow them back every spring, for as long as I can remember. It would please me very much to see the world."
The bird thought of this for as long as a bird could think.
Finally, he said, "I can't bring you with me. For my wings are too small, and my flight is too long. Although, if you you give me this small branch with its leaves, I can take them on my journey, so they can see for you what you can't."
"Yes!" Replied the oak excitedly. "I will give the leaves eyes, so when they fall I can see the land. And I will give them legs so they can explore where I can't."
"Don't forget the branch," added the bird. "It will arrive with me, and then you can see the forest by the gulf shore."
So, the great old oak said goodbye to the bird as it flew away with the small branch in its beak, and as the bird traveled and dropped leaves, the old oak smiled inside as it began to see the world. Then, the bird arrived at the gulf shore and dropped the small branch in the forest, where it wandered in joy for the oak.
It's actually a leaf hopper. Jk idk
Go wildcats !
I just saw one for the first time a few days ago! Weird.
I just moved from inside 270 in Columbus to a new development in Delaware and began seeing these things too! I'd never seen them before either! Thank you for asking this question
No Problem. I mean it's heading everything looks like what I picture a grasshopper looking like but when I picture her grasshopper his wings are like close to its body and it's like brown and green and has the brown tobacco looking Juice coming out of it's mouth. Like the one in the link below.
Grasshopper: take a closer look. Tap to learn more on Google.
Yeah here in Delaware they are everywhere haha
One of these dudes flew into our house the other night and was hangin out. We put him back outside so he could continue on with his night time jams.
Delaware here. They seem to be everywhere this year.
Down here in Alabama we fry them up and eat em.. There so good
Had one of those beauties hop into my home not too long ago, scared the ever living shit out of me at first, then I just felt bad, my cat loves to torture bugs. He carried it around like a man purse as I chased him through my house trying to get rid of it. Then beat the ever loving shit out of it. When I finally got close enough to the katydid, the damn thing looked at me like the 1950’s “the Fly” movie, screaming for help or death. I put it out of it misery, before I could lay its battered body to rest, my cat ate the poor fucker. Cats have no respect.
Looks like a leaf got 4 🦵 and 👀

I think they're cute. Kinda loud though
Awww a leaf bug! It’s cute
I love katydids! Especially if you live on a non-ground floor since many times they are in the trees
First, I'm sorry you live in Grafton. Second, I have no idea what that bug is.

There is a greater than zero chance we knew each other.
Just had one land on our porch window last night. With the light shining through from behind it cast a massive shadow on our blinds and made it look gigantic.
Fire up the crock pot
Katydid, bush cricket, leaf bug.
That's what those little bastards are! I want to get one of those and a praying mantis to fight to the death! Lol
