So much heat about this korek charm and I still have no idea what the hell it is after playing through the entire game.
It basically was a somewhat difficult to find Easter egg item that would immediately repair weapons. It was kind of nice since I work all the time.
So everybody is losing their minds over an Easter egg??
I mean, I get that maybe some people who liked it might be annoyed but the noise about it is like they’ve been betrayed by Techland who have ruined the entire game.
The problem though....
Gold tier 9 weapons are a pain in the ass to get, especially once you get ones with stats you like.
They are only good for 360 hits. 150 from adding mods, 210 durability most I've ever found. Once all those are used up, it's just Bye Bye weapon!.
If you grind for 3 hours for a weapon that you like, and want, you shouldn't need able to just lose the weapon. Should be a way to repair it
tell me about it... my +night% +infected% +stamina on quick attack L9 reliable axe is too precious to actually use now.
Sure, however, wouldn't you say the solution is then to make the higher tier weapons 'easier' (read: faster and more reliable) to get?
You're meant to play the game after finishing it, which means *something* must still be rewarding. Infinite weapon durability seems like a problem. What else is left to scavenge for that you actually need?
The thing is, that solution was there before this update. Sunken airdrops used to respawn like the GRE chests and military airdrops, so you could go in a loop around the sunken city and get yourself new level 9 weapons if you so wanted.
By making the Korek charm cost 666 scrap AND making it so the sunken airdrops no longer respawn, they created the issue people are having.
Still though, the item is like a cheat code, not a proper game mechanic. I mean, sure I get it, but the outrage seems a bit much considering it’s not even a traditional part of the game…
If they added a better repair mechanic, then I feel no one would have an issue with it.
I mean, an Easter egg is great and all, but when it becomes a core need in a game because there's no way to keep weapons after a certain point, then yea... I understand the problem.
Then they also removed the grind in the under water area. Can't get gold weapons from grinding there any more.
I've lost my fair share of weapons that I lived, but it's just part of the game.
I see both sides to the argument though. I like some of my weapons, and would love to keep them.
But the weapons breaking is a key part of the game…like BotW…that you can’t keep your weapons forever is a key mechanic of the game. I get not everybody is gonna like that I guess, but it’s a choice and I think it works with the game.
But in BOTW you could easily stock up on endgame weapons at any time, and you even get an infinite use weapon there too
Meanwhile here they nerfed the main grinding source of gold tier weapons…while also nerfing the only way to keep your current ones
Which results in the Korek charm becoming more than just an easter egg and actually needed to keep up in the endgame
Yeah but then it becomes about weapon management…having a few different weapons and classes of weapon for different situations. Don’t use your gold weapon on easier mobs. Personally I liked that aspect of the game, would have been much less interesting if you just kept your best weapon forever and used it exclusively. I guess I’m in the minority though, but I thought the lack of a repair system was fine.
To me its like Potions in other games that players hoard them until the end and never use them. Is it a good mechanic if players never want to use their gold tier weapons because they dont want to lose them?
Well, I feel you man. The nice part of this is that it’s an Easter egg and not something added to every playthrough. People who enjoy the normal experience can just ignore the charm, that’s what I’m planning on doing, once they release a harder difficulty. Nightmare when?
It’s different in BOTW where you’re constantly getting weapons out the ass. In this game getting level 9 artifacts is very time consuming and even then the rolls are random.
That would be like your guns breaking after X shots in Destiny
The problem is there is no “proper mechanic”, so this Easter egg is essentially filling the gap left by a missing mechanic.
I don’t know if it’s a “missing mechanic”…the game essentially doesn’t let you repair weapons on purpose. That’s the mechanic. The korek charm let’s you break the rules of the game. It’s a cheat item.
It **feels** like a missing mechanic because that repair function was present in the first game.
It’s like releasing Dying Light 2 without a drop-kick skill and then having an Easter egg item that allows you to drop-kick.
I admit that I liked the limited repair function in the first game, BUT I also like the way that having no repair function in DL2 makes weapon management more of a gameplay concern that I personally find interesting. Being able to infinitely repair your best weapon in a game like this would be boring I think, but that just me.
Good thing it's an optional Easter egg item then
It’s not just you. This is exactly what I think too👍🏻
Tbf they should’ve had a better repair mechanic to begin with. The one in DL1 worked fine and they never should’ve changed it, people aren’t mad their Easter egg isn’t letting them cheese the game, they’re made because they made it way more complicated/tedious to do a lot of stuff in this game
The thing is you go so far out of your way just to get it and you have the option to not use it so for people that actually want to play legitimately don’t even have to go and get this charm to begin with
ok...so dont use it
the issue is they treated it like it was an item that is forced onto players and was the only way for them to add a repair aspect to the game
How was it forced onto players? Isn’t it something you’d have to look up to even be able to find?
The whole point of the system in DL2 is that you can’t repair weapons…this item lets you cheat that system.
He said “treated it like” not that it was. Also they said they would not change it and it’s working as intended. I also don’t see the problem with people playing a solo game how they want to. Let them have their fun.
That’s not the point I’m making. Of course people should be able to play a game however they want to. I’m saying that I think the outrage around it has been out of proportion. It’s a cheat item at the end of the day. Yeah, agreed, play the game however you want. OF COURSE! But y’all are acting like we should have Techland drawn and quartered because they nerfed the not really intended to be found cheat item to be a little bit less cheesy.
I mean, at the end of the day, they designed the game so that you can’t repair your weapons and obviously they want that to repair the case. All I’m saying is that the outrage is ridiculous, not that people shouldn’t use it if they want to.
but the item was said to have been working as intended and you should keep playing around with it if you want to a while before the nerf came out so....
I feel like people are too hung up about preserving weapons. Generally you’ll have a replacement by the time you lose one.
That was true until they nerfed the sunken crates, which is why this nerf is even more detrimental
I still don’t get why that’s a big deal. People are really that salty because they have to use a weapon from a different crate? I just don’t get this fixation with needing top tier, op weapons and that they need to be easily gotten and last forever.
Its because you can only get tier 9 weapons from random encounters now, it just makes the whole process of finding high tier gear long and tedious. If you don't understand why people want max level gear I don't how to explain it you? its relatively simple to understand.
I understand wanting it, it’s being unsatisfied with taking what you can get. And do you, because I get them from vendors in my one where I’m a 9. Not gold, but 9s. Last I checked was the day after the 1.2 update.
People are coming off like this is supposed to be common loot. They’re supposed to be hard to get and they’re not supposed to last forever. The first was the same way.
The first gave you more repairs that lasted longer, and you could use the blue shield survivor to keep repairing if you wanted to.
Especially given they eventually broke in the first one too. That's the part that gets me. Like...this isn't a new thing. At all.
There was a random quest giver in the first game that restored a weapon with all repairs. I never gave up my cool sword bc of him
I know right. It’s what makes me think most of these “fans” are rather new. I don’t remember a single complaint about losing weapons the past few years I’d been on the sub.
Edit: and their Easter eggs didn’t have as much impact.
True, but the problem is, gold weapons tier 9 aren't common enough so that people don't have many of them, or they break before they find another gold.
That’s just comes with using nice things. You don’t take your favorite car of all time and make it a daily driver and expect to have perfection.
That’s the trade off. You get a great weapon that’ll definitely make things easier or help in a pinch, but using it up will leave you empty handed sooner or later. The developer weapons in the first game didn’t last that long either, you wouldn’t expect that korek sword to last indefinitely just because you don’t have a backup.
And they said the charm worked as intended. They shouldn’t have changed it.
It's less that it's an Easter Egg and more that it's the only way to repair weapons in the game.
Keep in mind that before this patch they said it was working as intended, and wouldn't be changed, then was changed in the patch but not placed in the patch notes. This is in addition to a change to the sunken airdrops in the flooded part of the city that makes getting high tier weapons harder and was also not in the patch notes.
Yeah it sucks that these things happened but the hiding them from the patch notes seems to have escalated things and makes it seem way more shady and "anti-player". So of course people passionate about the game are pissed.
I understand why they did these things but I think they could’ve done better
The korek charm was a nice replacement for the shitty repair system they have and refuse to replace
The problem with the charm was that it highlighted how bad the repair system and scrap economy are. Techland wanted repairs to not be a thing and wanted you to lose your weapons after a while. I can respect that, but they made mods count as a pseudo, shitty repair and then had the bright idea to add an easter egg that gives infinite free repairs, which completely breaks the shitty design they came up with to pseudo repair your weapons. This caused everyone who found out about the charm to rely on it so they could get around the bad design. This overreliance on the charm caused Techland to add a massive scrap cost to the charm, which just highlighted how overly reliant the crafting system is on scraps (you use them to make molotovs, for god's sake. I guess if don't tape nuts and bolts to the bottle, the molotov won't work?).
So the problem isn't the charm itself, it's that the charm is indicative of bad design. If they wanted repairs to not exist, they should've just made them not exist. Adding an Easter Egg that breaks a vital mechanic of your game is just dumb. Having that vital mechanic be a shittier version of your previous games' mechanic is also dumb. The Korek charm and how they've handled it just highlights all of this.
Dude yes, this shit right here. Why TF do I need scrap to make molotovs and EVERYTHING ELSE. Lol the whole crafting system could use an overhaul, specially since scrap is required by everything and a pain in the ass to find. Unless your on easy cause the drops and the shops are easy mode friendly.
There is no other way to repair your weapons aside from the korek. No repair system, cant change weapon mods, can switch charms.
I saw someone say it’s because of the lack of GamerMom1989 and honestly, I miss her.
The negativity is deserved for how broken they released this game
I work in customer service and reddit is similar. You often only hear from the minority that are disgruntled, while the happily playing majority are just that, happily playing.
Perspective is key, with most subs toxicity being at its worst 3-6 months after initial release, to then see the whiners move on to the next sub with a new release, while the actual fans stick around for years.
Thank the devs do you think i waited 5 years to want to moan about it? The games not on par its that simple.. i literally stopped playing before the shitty update landed out of boredom and all the update did was add things that further cemented the fact i did not have any interest in playing it.. put it on last night and felt like i was almost having to force myself to play it :/ the weapons and mods in this game are weak and bland, every weapon in each respective category just feels the same, mods cost a HEAP of trophies considering how many different mods there are and theres an absolutely terrible mod to repair system that just makes me grapple stomp every zombie due to not wanting to lose my only unique feeling weapons, when you come from a game like dying light 1 and then get served up this hot mess it leaves you less than impressed, the story is short asf it legit felt like 15 or so missions that were ill be honest dialogue heavy to the point i had almost no ivestmemt in actually listening (never a problem on 1) and dont even get me started on all the collection and timed side quests that are so clichè and similar its mind numbing, like mate i dont want gather some bitch lavender and scrap 😂 go get the shit yourself, also playing on hard and the game is laughably easy which again makes it very boring then on top of that they expect me to get my 500 hours of gameplay because of the amount of grinding they have put in the game to upgrade all my mods ect not because there is actually 500 hours of fun to be had its 500 hours of shit rpg filler including dull side quests and never ending uninteresting dialogue with sprinkles of go farm 100s of zombies if you want anything remotely useful 💁♂️🤣
Unfortunately it seems to be that way with every community for every game these days except Elden Ring.
Elden Ring is that but the other way around. Bashing people who don’t enjoy it and other games acting as if the FromSoft invented basic open-world level design.
They demand the game to be what they jerked off on for all those years. Incelltears dont die bruh..
>So everybody is losing their minds over an Easter egg??
If by everybody you mean Techland devs, then yes mt. They lost their mind over the fact that players had to circumvent a game mechanic, or lack of one therefore, they didn't find fun.
The issue is that there is no way to repair weapons in this game except for the korek. So if you have a good weapon and want to keep it the only way is directly connected to find this Easter egg. Also techland said that korek was working as intende and will not be changed, then they changed how it works.
But not being able to repair weapons is a key mechanic of the game and the korek charm is essentially a cheat code to let you break the game mechanics. I TOTALLY understand that people like it, I guess I’m just saying to find the intense anger and outrage at Techland sort of misplaced considering it’s…a cheat code.
So? This isn't a competitive online shooter and some of the things they've made in game are grindy and simply just not fun. This allowed people who (most i presume) beat the game and want to have some fun. Nobody elses experience is ruined by someone using this "cheat", players experience isn't ruined by this "cheat", if anything, the person is having more fun because of it because he can focus on the fun parts instead of endless grind in an endgame practically void of content, where enemies are level 9, and everything, instead of being fun as hell, is just a spongefest grind where weapons decay as far as they ever will..
There is no way to repair and keep weapons but also one of the devs literally said on twitter that it was intended to work that way
People followed guide to get a way to cheese the game, then when it’s gone they complain
I don't think it's fair to say that.
The main problem was that the grind for good weapons in this game is pretty horrible. The korek charm is a fix for this, though not a great one. It was pretty OP so people asked if it would change and then the Devs confirmed it infact would not be changed as it was working as intended, then shortly after they completely destroyed it.
It's not people are losing their minds over an Easter egg. It's more like people are losing their minds over a fix to the bullshit grind this game had, which is fairly understandable. I'm sure if the korek charm didn't exist, a lot more people would've initially complained about the golden weapon change. They also heavily nerfed the sunken city farm zone shortly after so these 2 events essentially stacked with each other.
I hear you, I just don’t get it..I played through the game doing all the side content, etc, and I never found myself grinding for weapons once.
your experience is not every1s experience bro, great you didnt use it, of course that can be done but many people did use it and enjoy it thoroughly...what is not to get??
many people went thru very specific steps to get, not only that you need to be at a certain high level to even reach the place, its near endgame
Yeah thanks, I understand that “my experience is not everyone’s experience.” I didn’t say or imply that it was. I’m saying I just don’t get the grinding complaints because this really didn’t seem like a game where grinding was ever necessary, even at the highest difficulty. There’s weapons available all over the place. So I’m curious about why people are claiming that they needed to grind to get decent weapons.
If you want to properly use the crafting system in the game you absolutely need to grind. Upgrading a single thing to max takes like 200 zombie trophies and crafting basically everything needs scrap.
If you want a good upgraded weapon you really have to invest in it, without the korek there is basically no way to repair it so you’re investing into a good weapon just to lose it and have to make another one.
It’s fun as hell to get a great weapon which you can keep using, especially since there’s no guarantee you’ll get a high level specific one.
If you didn’t want to cheat to repair it you didn’t have to, for some reason techland want to add a grind to this repair thing even though it’s completely pointless to do so. Who cares if it’s op? It’s a solo pve game, legend levels were op in dl1.
Cause techland promised they wouldn’t do anything to change the Korek charm. Plus now it requires 666 scrap and it’s an insane amount that would take me an entire day to get which would be for one repair. Only other way of repairing is to add on mods and you can only do that once so the korek charm was really the only way to repair your favorite weapons.
The reason why people are mostly upset is the fact they the lead game designer said it wouldn’t be changed and then they changed it so not following through on their word
People are upset because the lead developer came out and said the charm was working as intended and there were no plans to nerf it, only for the charm to get nerfed a couple days later and the lead developer had no idea it happened until after the fact
Yeah pretty much, all this reaction is too much and I would rather see actual discussion instead of people jerking it to the Korek charm every other post
I’m sure Techland wishes they’d never put the korek charm in the game to begin with. The whole point is that you can’t repair your weapons in the game and IMO it’s a good mechanic. They probably thought, “We’ll throw in this cheat code item for fun” but it’s seriously backfired.
Not being able to repair weapons, but adding weapon stats is a dumb idea to begin with. It's like they wanted to grind to find the perfect weapon, but don't want you to be able to keep it. Making grinding for the perfect weapon pointless.
I don’t get this grind business. I played the game on the hardest difficulty, did all the side content, etc, and never once was grinding for a weapon. Having better or worse weapons makes weapon management a thing, which I personally found interesting. Far more interesting than just use one weapon.
That's cool. Glad you enjoyed your experience. Doesn't make mine or anyone else's complaints invalid.
The only thing I have ever needed to grind is Scrap lolol
I think that's the best/saddest thing about the whole afair. They kept posting a screenshot of whoever saying the Korek charm wasn't going to be changed like it was Word of God carved and a stone tablet. Never mind that fact that the only reason they were asking in the first place is they knew it was bullshit.
Meanwhile, I'd just like for them to fix Survivor Sense.
I'm with you bro...I'll have to get up to speed here and acquire this charm lol
all the heat and i still can’t play co op
You and about 99% of all players, most likely.
But the crybabies always make the most noise.
And social media gives them all a voice.
This is why the world is going to shit.
Said by a guy on social media with an intention to be upvoted and his opinion to be shared by other people.
People don't find a particular gameplay mechanic fun so they voice their opinions. Of fucking course people that don't care won't voice their opinion because they don't fucking care.
Yes the world’s going to shit because people are complaining online.
(/s since apparently people didn’t read the rest of the comment to know I’m obviously being sarcastic)
If you don’t want to see other people’s thoughts on the game don’t go on a forum, the korek charm was op which was fun for a time. Getting rid of that is pointless as hell when they have other priorities with the game more important than nerfing enjoyable aspects of the game.
How the hell is the world going to shit over a video game your dumb bro😂😂
Same man, I just like getting new weapons. I kind of liked it, since my fav weapons would change over time. Always something new to look for.
Exactly! And experimenting with different modal combinations on different weapons.
As much as I hate the update to the charm, I think it's incredibly stupid to say that the update is a precursor to micro-transactions
That guy’s entire tweet was incredibly stupid
Entire Twitter is stupid
What a toxic Man-baby....the whole game is the most polished and complete title we've gotten from any big name game developers and he wants to whine and bitch that a charm isn't exactly how he wants it. Yes he has the right to complain about something, but the way he went about doing so was just immature and just ignorant. "Oh they didn't change this one hidden secret to be the way I want it to be? The whole game is garbage regardless of how well it is made and released, I'm throwing it away, it can never touch my precious CONSOLE!" I wish Techland would have responded with the biggest burn ever and made him look like the dill-hole he is, public humiliation is the only way some people learn their behaviour is wrong....but Techland was the bigger person.
people will be mad about anything
Facts it’s definitely not as bad as cyberpunk was when it first came out and I’m truly happy to see that the devs actually listen to their players
What do you mean, at times this game is barely playable. There are still a lot of people that are having problems playing online with each other, and the blue screen every 45 minutes is still a problem for a lot of people.
I guess it depends on what generation of console you play on but I rarely have problems
I’m in a PS5/PS4 group, and I have been told by multiple people on both systems that the game gets to the point where it’s unplayable at times. Also with the updates, quite a few people including myself have had their file corrupted. There was definitely a lot of stuff that they needed to do before they release this game, this game was definitely not ready for release. If they honestly keep it up, by June the Ultimate edition is going to be cheaper than the game is now
Alright I must’ve had my info wrong but then again since elden ring came out I haven’t really touched dl2 I just like to keep in the loop
Wait, Twitter is real? Holy shit
oh i know, this is what you see in all their tweet threads, people complaining just to complain
80% of post on this subreddit are also that.
This guy was fucking stupid with his tweet
Yeah, it's completely normal to call out the devs if they do a mistake but this constant whining just for the sake of it is getting real old. I just wanna enjoy the game, if you don't like you can just like not play it? Don't know why these people still come here if everything is "so shit"...
Not just this sub. A ton of subreddits are flooded by people who complain like tomorrow never comes.
*Some day, tomorrow never will*
I have noticed that too. There are a lot of entitled people on gaming subreddits.
I don't get why people complain, about people complaining, I have barely complained about this game but the shit is constantly broken when I play it, glitches, characters disappearing, game freezes, maybe you should actually call out the devs, and lose the "if u don't like it don't play it" dumb shit, how about "if it is broken, fucking fix it"
The devs literally showed us a roadmap of the things they are working on and 1.2 fixed alot of stuff already. And did you even read my comment? I said it's completely ok to call out the devs and give constrictive feedback, but the "they changed the thing I like, worst fucking game, shit game, look at me jumping on the popular opinion train" and blind hate just cause people feel so entitled is moronic. So yes, if you don't have any good feedback and just ("shit game, fix everything the very second" is not good feedback btw), you really should just leave, simple.
A roadmap don't mean they are "all good" now, they again gave a broken game, they should be held accountable. all these studios doing it should. it isn't simple and again that is a dumb take, how about accountability, the same people complaining gave the same money you did, they have a right to complain, maybe everyone is tired of seeing people like you, complain about people complaining? maybe you should just leave, its that simple.
Thats just twitter lol, deleted it last week cuz I couldn’t handle that abnormal amount of toxicity on any topic. Idk how they manage to hate anything
Also calling the entire game shit because they change one cheesy charm
Given how cheap scraps are, simply increasing the amount vendors carry seems like an easy solution.
For real - I have over 170k atm. I don't mind turning some of that into scrap for weapon repairs. I actually enjoy that mechanic because it creates a natural currency burn that ultimately incentivizes more exploration and looting.
This. If you want shit to cost more scrap, make scrap more readily available. Currently the best way to get it is to visit vendors and buy their stock. Way faster than looting stores. It's just a hassle. Make them carry a couple hundred scrap each and we don't have problems anymore. I find it difficult to maintain over 300 scrap without skimping on my use of throwables. I've never even had enough scrap to make the cyberhands or finger guns
See I don't mind this idea of making scraps more available at vendors to make the korek more affordable, but my issue is that, at that point, you're essentially paying for a weapon repair. So why not just make that a feature? Instead of the korek, why not make vendors have an option to repair your weapon for a fair price? It seems nonsensical to create all these hoops to jump through just to be able to repair a weapon when they could easily just implement a decent repair mechanic like that.
I get that they chose not to have a repair mechanic for whatever reason, but clearly a large portion of their players agree that they would prefer to have one, so I think it would be in their best interest to create something like that that flows better with the game instead of some magical charm that costs a huge chunk of a players supplies just to repair a weapon that will inevitably break numerous times during each play session depending on the amount of combat the player gets into.
I left basically the same comment elsewhere, im in complete agreement. The Korek charm was meant to be an easter egg gift, but it became completely mainstream and the defacto repair mechanic in the absence of a formal one. Instead of nerfing it, Techland should realize that we clearly want an actual repair mechanic. Craftmasters being able to repair weapon durability for 50 scrap makes a lot of sense.
Some people are incredibly whiny and drama queens. I mean uninstalling because of the korek charm? Lol wtf
Now we dont have to meet that dude in a random coop🤩
that's what I'm saying its not that serious, there's still plenty of good in the game still he just wants to highlight the one bad thing.
Yeah thats probably the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard
I can't wait to screenshot this when they add the microtransactions lol
honestly this is probably the last game i would expect to see microtransactions in
Who was this item "ruining" the game for?
Is there a competive co-op mode scene on Twitch?
This right here. I don't have a BIG issue with how they updated it I just am wondering why. If they could make money from it being weaker or like you mentioned, if there was a PvP or coop mode where it was an unfair advantage I would understand that. But it seems like they did it just to do it lol
I've only joined games to get momentos from quest lines that are glitched in my game. I still need to get the trophies for old world money and mp kills. But during my time in coop I couldn't tell you who 2as or wasn't using the charm. Nobody seemed to have a huge advantage over others in relation to their gear, weapon, or level.
Alot of this could of been avoided if they just kept the repair system from the last game
Ew, well kinda. I’d change it a bit to where we pay to have our repair limit replenished.
In DL1 For example, a hammer you can repair 3 times before it’s gone. You can do a activity that replenishes it back to 3 after you use it up. Instead of having the activity, I’d add an option to give the crafters maker people this option
add repair kits or make repairs unlimited but the require more scrap or more types of materials.
Take the charm away and add a repair will be better it’s impossible to fight multiple level 8-9 zombies with a level 9 weapon the weapon will be finished after killing 20 consecutively
I honestly don't know why they don't simply go for the fallout way of repairing weapons. Where all you need to is to a vendor and pay them to repair said weapons with each time costing more for that specific weapon. Likewise why not also add the ability to scrap weapons like in the first game, so then the scrap from your weapons could be used to repair other weapons. The fact that theirs no option to throw your weapon like in first game especially since this game encourages you to discard weapons like crazy.
I just looked up how to get this charm... who the hell figured that out first lol Anyways I'm not too far into the game yet so I dont know much but 600 scrap seems like a lot depending on how much you have to scavenge. Didn't they increase the amount you can hoard from 999 to 9999? Or did I misread that from before? maybe like 50 scrap is fair? I dont expect to be able to repair for free but being able to repair the weapons I love using is so awesome. That was the only thing I didnt like about DL1 vs Dead Island. Though by the end of DL1 I was mostly armed with guns anyway lol
They don't the devs leak it out to them media or game guides. Pretty common in industry when they want you to find stuff like this.
Hmm maybe they should of just kept fixing weapons in the first place
Just make it the way it was 🤦 what's the big deal. It's a optional "Game breaking" thing, like cheats on GTA Games. Just let people use at they're own risk and move on
that first tweet may be the most retarded thing i laid my eyes upon this month
Maybe instead of just selling the weapons that we find we can break them down into scrap. Make it easier and decide wether you want money or scrap.
Let's just hope that's true, and they keep their word this time.
They said it will either cost 50 scrap or 3 rare trophies
There’s is no reason for them to lie
Both of those options are pretty cool actually, it makes it possible to use by just playing the game.
I mean I thought the 50 scrap or 3 rare trophies was just this subreddit having a discussion about the korek charm being changed to no longer be free but at least be reasonable, not that this was a confirmed possible change.
Tech land themselves said they will make it 50 scrap or 3 rare trophies
Pretty sure it was "korek"(I'm not sure of his actual name) himself that put out that tweet asking if "hypothetically if a game dev-"
Idk they lied when they said the charm was working as intended, then nerfed it by requiring 666 scraps to use it
Weapon durability is stupid to begin with
it's been a thing since the first game lol what are you on about
Except you could actually repair your weapon in the first game
I know and I hated it then too. I hated it in BOTW and I hated it in the fallout games too
it's a key mechanic requiring you to actually play the game and explore
That’s weird because I was definitely actually playing and exploring using the korek charm
Doesn't make it any less dumb, I'm not playing this game for realism. I'm slicing zombies while I fly from rooftop to rooftop with my superhuman abilities
Damn some people are whiny ass bitches
I feel like there wouldn't be nearly half this hate if there was a better repair mechanic added in. Like let me repair my weapons AND mod them out, I want the most potential from my weapon from the start
I don’t understand this complaint.
The game was balanced with the intention that weapons last a fixed amount of time and then they are gone.
That’s why you’re literally drowning in weapons all the time so you never run out.
I was constantly selling or having to drop weapons and I wasn’t using that charm.
To put it simply, the repair mechanic flat-out sucks
The reason the mechanic sucks is that I'm not able to upgrade my weapon when I WANT, I'm forced to save a weapon upgrade till my weapon is damn near broken in order to get the most out of it, forcing me to use it in its base form till I decide to repair it by slapping a mod on
With the forced weapon mod/repair system, it both eliminates my choice in the matter AND causes me not to be able to just simply repair something without lighting it on fire, electrifying, etc
Why not just give us a cost of scrap like the first game did?
Edit: spelling and missing a word
You’re not forced to do what you’re saying at all.
Pick up a new weapon, mod it how you want, use it till it breaks, repeat.
You don’t have to play that game if using 50 durability, then adding a mod, using 50 durability again, adding a mod, etc.
If you want to stretch a weapon you CAN do that, but you’re absolutely choosing to do that and it’s not forced at all.
What if someone wants to use a specific weapon without it breaking. Have you tried getting good lvl 9 gear now? Even before the airdrop nerf it was a pain to get a specific high level weapon to fit your playstyle / build.
High level shit is important too since the world and enemies scale to the player level.
The repair charm gave people the choice to keep using a specific weapon if they wanted to do so, if you want to use shit till it breaks you could do that by simply ignoring the charm.
Now everyone has to use the shitty mod repair system if they want a weapon to last. It makes no sense to remove playstyle choice from a solo pve game. What does it matter if it’s op? Legend levels were op in dl1.
I really don't understand how tymon and the community manager have stayed sane since the release of the game
I don’t know how any game devs do it.
Most big games nowadays are released unbalanced, full of bugs and unoptimized. No one should receive death treats over a video game, but it must be frustrating to buy something 80$ and see the game break.
They put the pistol down when they break even
I just wish they would fix the annoying audio bug. Can't play the game when I have no idea what people are saying in the cutscenes.
that will be months away.
Let’s. Fucking. Go
So I'm only about 20 hours into the game, but from reading the messages, I'm under the assumption that the Korek Charm allows players the ability to repair the weapon it's equipped to? Is that true? It seemed weird to me that there was no way to repair weapons, but I just figured it was an ability that you would unlock later in the game.
You've basically got it. The Korek charm is an easter egg charm you can apply to weapons and each time it would repair your weapon completely, free of charge(until the update, which made it cost 666 scrap). The only other way to repair a weapon was to apply weapon mods, but since you can only do that once per weapon there's no further way to do it otherwise unless you get the easter egg charm.
Definitely explains some things! Shame that's the only other way to repair items, outside of mods, when it was a stable in the original dying light and even dead island.
I do NOT understand the shitshow people are staging over a developer item. In the first game, these things were meant as small, little gimmicks, never meant to be taken seriously. And from the ones in DL2 I've seen on the internet (haven't found any myself yet), this seems to not have changed at all in the sequel.
Being so horrifically butthurt about some easter egg being changed, going as far as to uninstall the game because it became "unplayable" for you, is just plain childish. It's not meant to be taken absolutely seriously, and never has been.
If you want weapons that can be repaired indefinitely, go back to Dead Island. Finding strong weapons to replace my old ones was part of what made DL1 so incredibly replayable for me, and I've not yet made it past Survivor Rank 30. I loved having to change my playstyle slightly whenever I was forced to use a different kind of weapon, and this hasn't changed in DL2.
It's actually kind of sad and pathetic seeing this truly beautiful fanbase being torn apart, not because of the new game and what it has/hasn't changed, but because of a fucking easter egg!
If it ain't broke don't fix it
If anyone responds with anything other than "korek charm is the only way to repair weapons like the first game" they'll get down voted. People REALLY like the first game's repair mechanic because the weapons essentially lasted longer. It's not that big of a deal in my opinion and the people who complain about it will continue to play the game.
Most people here are suggesting an actual repair system while I say
give us proper ways to get better weapons so we don't have to rely on easter eggs to play post-game
L + Ratio + No Korek Charm ![img](emote|t5_2xcav|7540)
Fix the grappling hook next please
Look, I'm not a fan of the korek change either but I really don't think it's such a big deal to stop playing the game. They said almost right after the update that they're gonna make it more user friendly. Some ppl just take this stuff way too seriously
That was the worst take I ever read
The logic here is impeccable. “They’re gonna turn this into a grindy pay to play game because of a poor choice” makes complete sense.

I will say though-why the hell would they change it in the first place then to something ridicolous, just to change it to good again? It's not making them look like the hero for being so good at listening to the community, it's just changing something without telling anyone, then changing it back when people realize to make themselves look good. Or at least that's how it looks to me
Lol the devs at tech land are completely incompetent.
Their motto is "let's use zero common sense when making our games and mechanics and then spend 5 years redoing and fixing it all"
They're a laughing stock.
"uNinStaLLeD sTrAiGhT aWaY"
Lol it was a bad patch but not bad enough to make me uninstall the game. This guy is just being dramatic.
Fuck the korek charm. Just ditch this stupid ass gimmick and give us the ability to actually repair our items man.
Why do we have to use a gimmick to get back some resemblance of a basic mechanic that worked perfectly fine in the first game?
People want to be able to repair their items and everyone is losing their goddam mind over a gimmick item that was never meant to actually be this important all encompassing tool.
People want to be able to repair items. This whole discussion about the korek charm changes is undeniable proof. Just let us do it without gimmicky bullshit ortiming when to add mods.
Flamur Tafilaj dude, you need to chill out. what a crybaby.
he probably dont even like the game itself.
Look 666 scrap for the charm was excessive but if you actually thought Techland increased the cost so that they could sell you in game scrap as micro transactions then you’re on some other shit.
They could’ve took the charm away but at least we still have it
They essentially took it away by making you spend 666 scrap to use it. That’s an absurd amount of scrap. Especially since you can only carry 999 at a time
I get the point why they nerfed it in the first place.
The game doesn't want you to use only a single weapon over and over again, but it's a big issue to find strong weapons / armor and since the airdrops won't respawn anymore it got even harder to loot such items.
I just hope that they'll either revert the changes back to how it was or to lower the cost of scraps you have to use (maybe to something 50-100)
Damage has been done, already Uninstalled.
You showed them!
I've never even used that charm thing and all anybody cries about nowadays is this.
If your weapon breaks then get a new one jfc it's not that hard to find good weapons in the game...
it is if you're level 9 apparently.
Probably the only game I would spend money on if micro transactions happens.
Holy fuck who cares though. Some of you *really* need to go outside.
They probably cant go outside, because they have to farm 666 scrap.
People too lazy to spend 5 mins looking for scrap.
Such a shame.
600 scraps 5 minutes? lol
What a fucking baby LOOOOL man is seething over something that shouldn’t even be in the game
Oh rejoice, for the dumb and the lazy can play the game the exact opposite way it was intended to be played.
Why does it matter how others play the game? It’s a solo pve game. If someone doesn’t want to deal with weapon durability then the charm gave them that choice.
How does nerfing the charm benefit you at all? Why do you care if others are playing the way it was intended to be played?
I just don’t get what all the fuss is about. I knew about the charm but didn’t wanna go through the work to get it and I had a great time with the game. I didn’t get it mostly because I felt it was sort of game breaking in its ability. How does nerfing an OP eater egg ruin the game for people and make some edgelords like that guy claim to uninstall the game? I just think it’s over exaggerated.
