Started RN to BSN at 53, finished in 2 years. You can do it.

kermitlady

WGU was a good experience for me.

stephanienich

Yea I was wondering about them..

kermitlady

They provide a mentor that you talk at least once a week to start with and then adjust to your needs. A new term starts the first of every month so you don’t have to wait for the traditional semester start times. Each term runs six months and you can take as many classes as you want but have to complete at least four. And the best part - it’s a flat fee per term no matter how many classes you take.

stephanienich

Can you take and pay for one class at a time?

kermitlady

Unfortunately, I do not believe you can. If I remember correctly, you can be part time where you only have to take two classes per term.

stephanienich

I’m sure I could get through that hopefully!!

kermitlady

I’m sure you could! They don’t shame you if you have life issues either. I actually graduated about a year after my expected date due to some personal issues.

I'm 56 and starting at Capella University in August. It seems similar WGU's format. I choose Capella because my agency offers a discount on some of the tuition. Good luck to you! I'll be rooting for your success.

stephanienich

Thank you.. how’s it going for you? I work nights full time so I’m scared of starting and not finishing

al0neinthecr0wd

I work nights as well. Honestly, the fear of not finishing and accumulating student loan debt is the reason why I have not gone back to school sooner. But I have a bad back and realize that I can't work the floor much longer. I'm just going to power thru it and get it done as fast as possible. After the BSN I will either go for a masters as an NP or a non-clinical position.

stephanienich

You’ve got this!! I’m honestly more upset I didn’t do it earlier.. but life happens

Yayayayayyayaya

Screw it, do it. We’re in the middle of a pandemic. We need all the help we can get

stephanienich

I mean I’m already nursing but just been thinking about it..

Simon_Elliott

I'm exactly the same age as you and I'm planning on retiring next April! Wishing you the very best of luck with your academic endeavours.

stephanienich

Planning on retirement soon as well.. it’s just I think a personal goal
