Strange Sounds Recorded On Mars.
By - Brickmaster3000
Damn it! I told you to turn off the taps properly. That’s why we have no water left
Mars needs a plumber
Plumber here. Sounds like an electric water heater with sediment built up on the heating elements. Mars needs a new heater.
What would be the bill for something like that? Can you patch it up until tax returns come in next year?
You can flush it as long as the elements are still good. And if it ain’t leaking. Don’t spend the money to fix it!!
Angry red plumbers!
I can’t tell if I’m intrigued or terrified.
[So this sound is very similar to noises produced by sand dunes.](https://youtu.be/4mbypyJjqhk)
[“Some researchers have carefully examined the textures and surfaces of booming sands and concluded that the sand grains needed to be highly polished and moderately well rounded. This high degree of polishing, sphericity and sorting is produced in certain dune settings as grains saltate into each other, each impact further rounding and polishing grains.”](https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/what-are-quotbooming-sand/)
The natives are getting restless.
We are always restless
User image checks out.
The martians discovered Reddit, they probably think there is no hope left for humans
He's Matt Damon
Always have been
They're not restless. They're just hoping to God Leo Wong doesn't go up there in 1000 years time.
You've come to the Wong place.
Wong place, Wong time.
Drums, drums in the deep, they are coming!
Sounds like a Tool interlude
Haha I love this. It does sound like Eulogy or something
mars had a lot to say. mars had a lot of nothing to say.
We'll miss him
We are gonna miss him
We'll Miss Him
Ranting and pointing his finger
At everything but his heart.
We'll miss him. We're gonna miss him.
It’s a warning: LIFE…FEEDS ON LIFE…LIFE…FEEDS ON LIFE.
He said “you are the chosen one”
And the angel said unto me "These are the cries of the carrots, the cries of the carrots!"
und keine Eier
For them it is the holocaust
Let the rabbits wear glasses!!!!
I woke up to that once when I had gotten the cd shortly after it came out lol, I was a frozen and didn't know what was going on.
"the one that'll deliver the message"
"a message of hope for those who choose to hear it. and a warning for those who do not."
Me? The chosen one? They chose me?
And I didn’t even graduate from fuckin high school
Overwhelmed as one would be, placed in my position.
Me… they chose me…
I didn’t even graduate from fuckin’ high school
You better listen
Something something birkenstocks
Overwhelmed as one would be, placed in my position!
Martians be like 🌀
I just paused Tool on my phone so I could hear these sounds, right before I read your comment.
Me too, lol, I'm dangerously addicted to theses dudes
Wouldn’t be surprised if Danny Carey was a Martian.
I was getting Stinkfist vibes
And for today, i will have nothing but unconditional love for you.
If I click on this am I going to hear every conversation some of my friends had in high school in 2002?
Hehe good one
This is necessary
Mention something... mention anything...
Omg I love this comment, lemme see if have a reward
Shit, the Martians started playing them war drums. Pray they don't stop. You know what happens when they stop...
War were declared.
We have a galactic standard week to respond.
The Martian bassists take a solo?
can we just appreciate for a second that we live in a time when we can be witness to not just clear video but hi-res audio of another freaken planet
And yet all UFO 'sightings' are still blurry as hell in 2021.
Well if it was identifiable, it wouldn’t be a UFO.
When was the last time a recent UFO photo was captured or got attention?
And the UAP Task Force budget was worked into the Covid bill this past summer. There's been alot of mainstream media news coverage on the subject all year. Alot was overshadowed by covid but it got alot if attention in July and August of this year.
Edit: changed Pand to And
That poor Alot was overshadowed by covid. At least it's still better at swimming than Michael Phelps
[2019 was busy.](https://abcnews.go.com/US/ufo-sightings-north-america-jumped-6000-2019/story?id=68145474)
US Gov [has even released ~~extensive~~ official paperwork regarding UAP.](https://www.cnn.com/2021/06/27/politics/ufos-uap-extraterrestrial-life/index.html)
Edit: Ok. Maybe that was the wrong word. Lol
It was redacted right?
"Extensive official paperwork" aka a 9 page paper
The latest paparazzi shot of Mark Zuckerberg
That's just standard starship coating. How else can they 'move' in sheer defiance to the laws of physics as we know them..? It really is on us for being backwards and crude.
and yet we cant print a page of paper without the printer jamming or expecting me to refil the ink every 3 minutes
Printers are the only equipment that hasn’t changed since 1990
Not true, they've evolved immensely in the past 30 years.... to ensure they run out of ink sooner, even when not in use! and new smart technology to ensure that should you ever run out of magenta or cyan that it absolutly under no circumstances will continue to print a black and white document.
You're still using inkjet? Get a laser printer and forget about it!
And yet we can’t scan images if the color ink runs out 😱
So I have no opinion on UFO stuff, but this being the catch point always has bothered me. Like... you ever tried to take a pic of a plane in the sky with a phone? I mean, there's a lot of zoom involved, so the blurriness/graininess of the photos is the one thing that doesn't bother me.
There’s actually a lot of good ufo footage it just kinda gets called fake and buried beneath actually fake/false sightings
Sounds like the popcorn is about done in the microwave
Yeah, gonna burn soon
What about rain dropping on the rover structure? I know there is no rain but....sounds like it. Or tiny rocks hitting the rover?
Sounds like metal expanding as it warms to me - but yeah, the body of the rover making noise.
Oh yeah that’s actually more reasonable
Yeah those sounds are too loud for them to be coming from a distance. It sounds like it can hear its own camera recording and the metal pinging from the sun, yet its cold on mars so it might be at a state where its kinda caught in this expanding/contracting point.
This is the answer.
Temperature differentials between the Martian ambient temperature and changes in temperature occurring inside the rover because of mechanical or electrical activity.
Also, remember that the rover's microphone is, incredibly, an off-the-shelf product, not a special mic created by the lander engineers - so it's bound to have a few unexpected properties.
The company, DPA, that made the microphone is, understandably, loving all the attention
Turn off a hot car it sounds exactly the same. It's 100% the rovers own metal cooling off (maybe the sun just set?)
Was thinking the same. I was thinking maybe an underground cave with water?
Sounds like the rain has almost stopped.
I sense a good opportunity here...
Somebody needs to sample this shit. Someone call Deltron right now
It's the year 3030
I want y'all to meet Deltron Zero, hero, not no small feat.
It's all heat in this day and age
I raid yo grave anything it takes to save the day
Neuromancer, perfect blend of technology and magic
Holy fuck I haven’t listened to Deltron in a long ass time. I mean at least not actual Deltron, I guess I still listen to Clint Eastwood… but still what a throwback. I know what I’m listening to in the shower tomorrow.
Coming to you live from Eros Station.
Don't you dare be making any jump scare shit with this....
I fully expected to be Rick rolled
Never gonna give
Sounds like drums
Drums in the deep
They are coming
They have a cave troll.
I need a 30 minute video of this. It's oddly calming.
Yeah dude, it's the IRL version of snake jaz.
Holy shit I just watched that episode
I understood that reference
It’s like rain on a gutter
Perfect to listen while ironing your shirts.
The rover’s tires are made of metal and essentially look like a metal tube. Fairly certain what you are hearing are the Rover’s tires rolling over the land on Mars.
Edit: [video explaining sounds](https://youtu.be/GHenFGnixzU?t=1m50s)
Edit #2: [This comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/oddlyterrifying/comments/qcgexg/strange_sounds_recorded_on_mars/hhi403e/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3) below sources and explains the sound. My oversight to linking the Rover’s sounds when OP’s video noted this audio was from Insight.
To me it sounds like this could be the expansion of parts of the craft picked up by the microphone through coupling. All the sounds seem to have the same formant which I believe is an indication that the sounds are being coupled to the mic. GoPros in their protective shell have some of this characteristic but the effect is not as strong.
Sounds just like a car after having driven it and all the metal is cooling off
You're right about the Rover but this is Nasa [Insight Lander](https://lifeboat.com/blog.images/our-nasa-insight-lander-just-needs-some-nasa-national-aeronautics-and-space-administration.jpg). No tires, seems stationary.
It sounds like hollow or thin metal objects expanding in the sun and “pinging” like when the heat pipes first come on (no fluid needed to percolate nor cavitation).
I hear this a lot, i have a door to my attic in my room and in summer mornings i hear the metal roof doing this, but this is just 3x higher pitch, so I'm guessing a smaller object is heating up
The martian atmosphere is thinner so stuff sounds higher
My “Martian atmosphere” is pretty thick so it comes out deeper. But if a smell.
He who so smelteth, dealteth.
That, or you have martians in your attic.
Well, yeah, probably martians, they just get more active when it's warm, like lizards. Sometimes I hear some weird noises. Maybe it's proof that cats aren't from earth, because my cat spends a lot of time in the attic.
I wonder if the different gas composition and density of the atmosphere might modify the pitch somewhat too.
Exactly what I thought of too.our metal roof in the morning when the sun hits it, and after it sets at night. Like little gnomes drumming up there.
And Mars temperature can be +27°C during the day, -133°C during the night.
27°C is equivalent to 80°F, which is 300K.
^(I'm a bot that converts temperature between two units humans can understand, then convert it to Kelvin for bots and physicists to understand)
I'm sure I'm too late to this old thread, but [here is a link](https://mars.nasa.gov/resources/24650/listen-to-nasas-insight-at-work-on-mars/?site=insight), straight from NASA's Ingenuity's "Multimedia" page, explaining what seems to be, while maybe not this exact clip, certainly part of the same wave file. No, it's not tires, as almost everyone else in this comments section, other than you, keeps saying and linking totally unrelated videos. It's audio of (or taken with) a seismometer being placed. The video linked goes through the entire wave file with text explaining every single little sound that happens.
Thank you for the link, that sums it up. Not alot of people verify information they get on the internet.
Still Martian sounds though... cause... it’s on mars
Martians playing Pong on the Atari
What a legendary name for a band
Don’t they know the engine ticks when it’s cooling down?
You're right, from NASA
Evening is also when peculiar sounds that the InSight team has nicknamed "dinks and donks" become more prevalent. The team knows they're coming from delicate parts within the seismometer expanding and contracting against one another and thinks heat loss may be the factor, similar to how a car engine "ticks" after it's turned off and begins cooling
A big win for rationality and the scientific method. Tune in next week for a fresh segment of Internet Ignorance. We can all guess what phenomenon of which we know not better explains shit than science
Jesus, finally I found the ONE comment explaining what's going on here buried about 50 comments down under "lol aliens" and "lol rain". Thank you.
This was my first thought. It's the same sort of ticking sound the metal roof on my barn makes (although a lot slower) when the sun finally goes down over the hill after a hot day.
Sounds like something is dripping faster and faster
Rain on a bunch of metal objects
It's a countdown...
That shit slaps
Mars looks like it really sucks
Mars ain't the kind of place to raise your kids.
In fact its cold as hell
And there's no one there to raise them if you didn't
And I think it’s gonna be a long long time
Til touchdown brings me 'round again to find
I'm not the man they think I am at home
Oh no, no, no
I’m a *rocket man*
*R O C K E T M A A A A N*
Its lonely out in space
It's too damn cold...
In fact its cold as hell.
Yeah but there’s so much room for activities
Can we make bunk beds?
I DON'T GIVE A FUCK!
I would smoke a fat blunt there no cap
Good luck getting it to light
Who would want to colonize that dump? I like earth better.
“And over there are the rocks and dirt. If you turn around there’s the other rocks and dirt.
It’s all rocks and dirt.”
HEEEEY MACARANA HIEEEEEE
That sounds like a hang drum to me.
The aliens are giving a go at the bongos lmao
Eminem been real quiet since this came out
Lmfao so hard
shortage in mom's spaghetti be hittin hard
All I hear is wind and the metal rover expanding or contracting. Like when an engine cools after shutting it off.
Some Psychedelic Rock band is going to sample this. I can already imagine it as a long intro fading into actual drums or something.
I see you are also a Floyd fan.
I think they posted about this on NASA twitter....its the onboard laser zapping into rock samples.
Produced by Aphex Twin
Defeinitely got some [Xtal](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnTFKWAT-XE) and [Tha](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3G7JPTVVEQ) vibes from this. Sure it aint space ravers?
Is this a aphex twin song?
Sounds like water dripping onto a pan or something.
Underground Martian rave party?
Sounds like it's either the rover being buffeted by wind, or the temperature is rising/falling casing the metal to expand/contract slightly giving you the tiny popping sounds
Alien out there playing with a bouncy ball on a metal pole in a driveway
Is this the ‘Donda’ you kids keep talking about?
Sounds like a cable slapping up against a flag pole
sounds like the metal expanding in the heat of the sunlight
Thats the sound of the rover wheels turning i think.
Natives are restless
It sounds like the rover is recording its own sounds?
The backgound noise must be the Mars wind. The clanging is the rover.
It sounds like when you turn the car engine off. It’s the sound of metal on the prob cooling after reentry…
Nice a new Tool song
