ikr. of all the asian countries, OP went with Kazakhstan and Lebanon (which prolly have great food, but you’d expect China and / or Japan to be there).
What I noticed in my trip to France isn't so much any particular food being godly, it's more that the common everyday foods are just so much better quality than here (Canada). Bread of course but also the meats, deli, sausages, cheeses, salads, spreads, sandwiches, whatever... Even a box of industrial cookies or crackers tasted better than what we have here.
There is just good eating all around in France.
I just got to Barcelona from France yesterday, and this is exactly how I felt. I had never heard about french cuisine other than their deserts and cheeses, and I realized that their food is just higher quality versions of other foods
I've had the same experience when travelling to Canada (am French). The sheer quality of the products is just so much higher here.
Also, viennoiseries.
The United States just has a lot of very diverse cuisine. I’d reckon that you can find a really good anything in the United States it’s just that the consistency that sucks. There’s a lot of shit to sift through to find the good
We also use alot of preservatives so if you're born in a country that uses less or no preservatives you can taste it in the food which some may enjoy it some may not
I've been told that McDonald's France is the testing track for McDonald's worldwide. Since we have such high expectations for food, if it's good enough for us it's probably good enough for anyone.
Odd. I had the exact opposite experience. The expensive fine dining was some of the best food I've ever eaten, but the sandwiches etc I had were truly terrible.
U should try switzerlands food. Its on another level then france. The quality is proportional to the cost tho… escpecially the meat as it has to be from Switzerland no imports.
Solo diría que para las carnes. Los únicos que le hacen competi en ese tema son los vascos honestamente.
En todo lo demás lo bueno americano es basicamente importado.
Another belgian here
And tbh our food aint bad.
Its just unknown, like no one in the world knows about stoofvlees and mussels with fries.
But they are so fcking delicious
I loved Belgium waffles when I visited as a kid. You guys really don't hold off on the toppings and the waffles themselves are HUGE. One of my most vivid childhood memories♥️
i mean our food is just a mix af our neighbor and a belgium flaire on top of it so i guess its the best of them all
oh we have waffles thats probably it
Sure but our cuisine is heavily based on French cuisine, while our general food quality is top notch and we also have food cultures from all over the world coming here to share their food, when comparing just native cuisine I don't think we deserve to be on this list. Our native food is limited to waffles, fries, chocolate, mussels and some other seafood dishes.
French food is actually really famous for upper class, snooty “fine dining”. There’s a reason why France has the highest number of Michelan stars and a ton of famous chefs: because of their appeal to the rich and wealthy.
Doesn’t really make a difference to the average joe, but it is what it is
But if you’re ONLY given the winning options, then it’s more of a guessing game. Even then, I don’t know about others but I don’t know anything about Kazakhstan let alone their food. I don’t even think there’s any food options like that where I live. Same goes with Belgium, I have no idea what kind of food is eaten in Belgium. This poll would’ve resonated a lot better with people if it included the more well know cuisines because those you find the most and likely have experienced more of.
The us does take those foods from other countries and chance them though. I remember going to Italy and being dissapointed in the food because American Italian is actually quite a bit different. I’m sure Italian food from Italy is actually better but I’m just used to the stuff I’ve eaten my whole life
I was hoping the US wouldn't win. Not out of anti-Americanism (I am American, but living elsewhere) but because while the US has so much variety and convenience and so on, I've turned on its size, excess, and in a lot of cases, its food quality standards. I'd love the US menu made with fresher, better stuff...
I voted US and I'm German. I just really love Burgers, and while they where invented by some sailors in Hamburg I think (hence the name), the Americans really made Burgers great.
not that it matters, but if a poll has only those options then pick the best out of those options. Yes, there are other countries with better food, but from THIS pool of options, who has the best food?
True but if it was on the list it would've obviously won, so I think OP wanted to know which countrie have the best food out of these, and not out of all the countries
Grew up half in Spain and half in the USA and after that I've been living around Europe for the past 12 years.
The USA has shit cuisine for anything not meat-related, that said meat culture there is top-notch. Ribs in the US or all the various kinds of steak will absolutely destroy most places in Western Europe. French steaks are a joke, it's basically sauce with a side of steak.
The only places I've seen that have a very strong and high quality meat culture are the Basque country in northern Spain, spots in Italy and spots in Romania. You can obviously find great steakhouses all around Europe, but they're basically American-style.
Note: I'm principally a carnivore. Some people love cheese, I love meats. Also, there being restaurants for X is not the same as the country's cuisine, which is why I still stand behind the statement that the USA is shit for most things but meats.
You definitely can, just go to a baker instead of buying wonder bread. Plus the US has New York and New Orleans. Some of the best food in the world in those cities. I personally voted Spain, but it’s not like the US has shitty food.
I've never been more disappointed by food than when I tried Hershey after a friend visiting from the states brought me some. It was, and I cannot stress this enough; fucking minging.
Nope, we actually think European Chocolate is too sweet. But you're generalizing American Food, which includes Barbeque, American Italian, Soul Food, and some of the best Seafood on earth. California and Texas have amazing food that it culturally shares with Mexico. Yes, processed food will taste like garbage, but then again that's what processed food is. But trust me that when people are in control of the food we cook at home or in a restaurant, American food is amazing. The generalization you pit on hersheys is like us going to Britain and thinking all food is grey mush, or that French like to eat Snails and Frogs, (but since Louisiana was once colonized by France and far South, alligator is a delicacy.)
BBQ tastes amazing and Coca Cola is the best tasting beverage out there imo and most of the s Tier snacks like potato chips are also part of american food culture.
Its the tastiest, but unhealthy af
Coca Cola is pure sugar, trust me my family buys it so much Even I used to drink it once a week after football matches (now I only drink water) it is awful for health and pure sugar and only otherwise nostalgia at best
and that is exactly why america is voted so much.
us americans are bred to love a bunch of sugar and fat in all our food. the food culture here, is just every other culture but loaded up with a bunch of unhealthy things.
so because america is the majority on reddit and we’re always surrounded by this type of food, it makes sense to vote for something more familiar.
I voted america not just because of that, but also because i’m a carnivore and the meat here is amazing. it’s probably the best place to get a good meal for literally any cuisine, it just won’t be top-notch traditional.
Fun fact, Americans only make up 47% to 54% of reddit, so we can assume that they are barely, if not at all a majority compared to the rest of the world on this platform.
It does make sense though that as a single country they tower over the rest of us individually when it comes to percentage of users though, since this is a platform primarily targeted at the English speaking western countries, and America is by far the largest of them!
Just a fun fact I learnt the other day while doing some research for a different reply :)
Side note: I've heard American diners are much different over here in the UK from what they actually should be like, according to my sister who used to live over the pond... I think it comes down primarily to what meats the British can get and rules and regulations are put on them that makes them taste so different. Personally I'd probably prefer English cooked meats but I can totally get why you prefer the American stuff, if being, I presume, what you grew up with!
imo America has the best variety for sure by some margin. Definitely a jack-of-all-trades scenario. It's definitely the best country in the world to get a passable meal from literally any culture.
Which country has the best food doesn’t mean which country produces food items the best, it means which country has created the best food/which country has the best food it’s known for, America has pretty good food, so it makes sense
Barbecue. The US has a specialization in meat cooked at a low temperature for ridiculously long times (like 12 hours). Pulled pork, ribs, brisket, chicken...etc. There are different regional versions like Carolina, Atlanta, Memphis, Kansas City, Texas.
I voted US because we have every food even if you say “it’s not as good as where it comes from” it’s still damn good and 90% of the time you can find a small place owned by some old lady who makes her food taste exactly like back home.
I live in the US and there is a Mexican restaurant near me that has an abuela outside hand making fresh tortillas every day. And I live in a small ass town with under 10k people far away from big cities.
Because America has a little of everything, especially Mexican food, not just fast food, but authentic stuff as well, which I’d argue is better than most of the stuff on this list. God bless the Mexicans and their glorious cuisine. Also, “American” cheese is a sin. That shit takes like ass. If you want a true American cheese that’s actual cheese, try Colby-Jack.
I'm not even American but I can appreciate the beauty of a properly well made burger. I don't think it's fair to base all American cuisine off of McDonald's.
Here is my logic. They didn't say that the food was from the US so it could also include other food generally made in the US. So Thai, Chinese, Mexican, etc. If you mean food actually originated from the US, there isn't much of anything.
Right. I see your point and it’s valid, but you can also find all these foods in America as there are immigrants from all these countries with restaurants there: many of them Michelin Rated.
Got a lot of self-hating americans in the comments assuming "american food" means fast food. Go outside and actually look for good food, you'll find it.
Everything you find in ant othe country can be found within a square mile grid of NYC. And in basically any town with a population above say 30k you'll find a huge spectrum of ethnic foods. Thus America is the best because we have it all.
These are so random
ikr. of all the asian countries, OP went with Kazakhstan and Lebanon (which prolly have great food, but you’d expect China and / or Japan to be there).
Lebanese food is actually really good
Khazakhastan has best food. Every other food is for little girl.
Yeah until you find out the food comes from Tinshein swimming pool's filtration system
Kazakhstan food is very nice, my wife loves it
Borat?
Lived down the road from a Lebanese bakery. Went there at least every week.
What exactly is American food? French fries?
A mix of other food cultures and you have to remember the us is huge food culture changes very fast in the us depending on where your going
Yeah Japanese is considered some of the best by many people who aren’t even from there. It’s probably my favorite.
Not to mention no "results" choice so people are choosing food they are familiar with
What I noticed in my trip to France isn't so much any particular food being godly, it's more that the common everyday foods are just so much better quality than here (Canada). Bread of course but also the meats, deli, sausages, cheeses, salads, spreads, sandwiches, whatever... Even a box of industrial cookies or crackers tasted better than what we have here. There is just good eating all around in France.
Yes! French food to me is superior because they manage to make every dish I tried look and taste heavenly. And I have been all around Europe.
I just got to Barcelona from France yesterday, and this is exactly how I felt. I had never heard about french cuisine other than their deserts and cheeses, and I realized that their food is just higher quality versions of other foods
I could live off nothing but french butter cheese and bread, and die happy from malnutrition. It would be worth it.
I've had the same experience when travelling to Canada (am French). The sheer quality of the products is just so much higher here. Also, viennoiseries.
Probably better regulations on the raw ingredients they use for meals
Yeah, I lived in North America for two years, and the quality of food there is significantly worse. Anyone voting for the US over France is very wrong

Odd. I had the exact opposite experience. The expensive fine dining was some of the best food I've ever eaten, but the sandwiches etc I had were truly terrible.
Spain and Italy were like that too
U should try switzerlands food. Its on another level then france. The quality is proportional to the cost tho… escpecially the meat as it has to be from Switzerland no imports.
Hot take but Balkans
The only correct answer. Gyros and kebab
Baklava too
And Burek sa mesom
My mouth is watering as we speak
mesnica
Ćevapčići
And sarma
Bez sira,SAMO SA MESOM!
My great grandmother made the best baklava. RIP
Levantine food with the same. Eastern Med fr fr.
Yaaaas!! I always say this. Balkans have the best food hands down. Prebranc is my favourite dish ever.
More love for lebanese food!
For a second I read that as “lesbian food” and was so confused and was about to Google it until I read it again
I heard the vagitarian diet is one you’re born to follow
I don’t know why but all the lesbians in my life would kill for banh mi.
yes so underrated
It's only so low because people haven't tried it.
arab food is godly. I'm surprised it was voted the lowest.
Estados Unidos mejor que España no se lo creen ni ellos
Solo diría que para las carnes. Los únicos que le hacen competi en ese tema son los vascos honestamente. En todo lo demás lo bueno americano es basicamente importado.
Lebanon
Tf is my country doing in this poll xD
What country are you coming from 😍
Belgium :D
Belgium has fantastic mussels. Also chocolate.
Belgium waffles. Is that even Belgium? Hey you gave the world fries.
Also crossaints
Belgian chocolate
Another belgian here And tbh our food aint bad.
You guys has nice foods :D
i mean our food is just a mix af our neighbor and a belgium flaire on top of it so i guess its the best of them all oh we have waffles thats probably it
I voted Belgium just with the waffles in mind. Never even tried Belgium waffles.
when you have te chance you must try it
Sure but our cuisine is heavily based on French cuisine, while our general food quality is top notch and we also have food cultures from all over the world coming here to share their food, when comparing just native cuisine I don't think we deserve to be on this list. Our native food is limited to waffles, fries, chocolate, mussels and some other seafood dishes.
Italy , turkey , Iran , India ,Croatia and mexico aren't on the list but belguim is 🗿
Well they probably knew people would take those so they didn't put them as an option.
I guess, but isn’t France known for having really good food? Why is France on the list?
French food is actually really famous for upper class, snooty “fine dining”. There’s a reason why France has the highest number of Michelan stars and a ton of famous chefs: because of their appeal to the rich and wealthy. Doesn’t really make a difference to the average joe, but it is what it is
Maybe it has the most Michelin stars because Michelin is a French company…..
Nope that's all wrong. French cuisine is much, much more than that. The reason it gets more Michelin Stars is because Michelin is a french company.
What is so special about Croatia (not hating i'm Croatian)
I love Croatian food , I don't know if it's just me or not
Its more Balkan food then Croatian
I mean they put the US there so no suprised
hamburger cheeseburger big mac whopper
croatia fr
You got anything against belgium :p
Belgium fries with beef stew are fucking epic.
I mean as a Belgian I'm always happy to be back from vacation to eat our fries and drink our beer :D
Wtf are these options No mexico? No Italy? No india? No china/japan?
Those countries always end up winning this type of poll, so it's nice to see a poll where those natural winners aren't included.
If that’s your point then France shouldn’t have been included too
Yeah, I think so too. But it's tied with the US and Spain is pretty close too, so I think it's fine.
I think the US should have also not been included since the food here tends to just be from other counties anyway
The us does take those foods from other countries and chance them though. I remember going to Italy and being dissapointed in the food because American Italian is actually quite a bit different. I’m sure Italian food from Italy is actually better but I’m just used to the stuff I’ve eaten my whole life
Yeah but still, it’s another obvious winner because it’s just a remix
Very much agree the us was definitely an outlier in this poll
I think the US only got so many votes because there’s lotta Americans here Spain is interesting, it did better than I’d expected
I voted US and I'm British. Was a close one between American food and Spanish food, but American wins out for me.
People probably voted United States because they think it has the best food
Yep... I have had food from around the world... and I have yet to find a cuisine that doesn't have some sort of good food.
not that it matters, but if a poll has only those options then pick the best out of those options. Yes, there are other countries with better food, but from THIS pool of options, who has the best food?
Exactly my thoughts
Haven't tried the other ones so I'll go with Spain. Poland has some dope cuisine too.
My man tried to sneak Kazakhstan in there like we wouldn't notice
out of all these, Lebanese is probably the best.
Spain
Spanish food is good too but Lebanese is amazing.
As my favorite meal is Beshbarmak I had to vote for Kazakhstan
French cuisine is the foundation of much of the western world's dishes
Italy probably. But not on the list.
our eyes differ but not opinions homie
What can I say. It’s the cutest costume.
*gives wholesome award*
Our skin colours differ, but not our amazing tastes in food!
ITALIAN UNGA BUNGA INTENSIFIES
True but if it was on the list it would've obviously won, so I think OP wanted to know which countrie have the best food out of these, and not out of all the countries
Americans really think they got better food than Spain, it's a bit sad really
Grew up half in Spain and half in the USA and after that I've been living around Europe for the past 12 years. As a Latino I truly believe America has better food. Greater variety, far more innovative and less tied to authenticity.
Who the fuck voted for America??? You can’t buy bread in America without enough sugar to give diabetes to six horses
Plastic slab cheese 💀
You definitely can, just go to a baker instead of buying wonder bread. Plus the US has New York and New Orleans. Some of the best food in the world in those cities. I personally voted Spain, but it’s not like the US has shitty food.
I'm from UK and I always hear in America the bread is weird and the chocolate is sour
I've never been more disappointed by food than when I tried Hershey after a friend visiting from the states brought me some. It was, and I cannot stress this enough; fucking minging.
It‘s because they intentionally put butyric acid in their chocolate which tastes like vomit
I don’t think anyone in the US actually eats those, besides using them as an ingredient for something else
Nope, we actually think European Chocolate is too sweet. But you're generalizing American Food, which includes Barbeque, American Italian, Soul Food, and some of the best Seafood on earth. California and Texas have amazing food that it culturally shares with Mexico. Yes, processed food will taste like garbage, but then again that's what processed food is. >to get a passable meal from literally any culture. So it's not American food then lmao
Yeah no other country has food from other places /s
Which country has the best food doesn’t mean which country produces food items the best, it means which country has created the best food/which country has the best food it’s known for, America has pretty good food, so it makes sense
Lmao people voting for the US
U.S food culture is an amalgamation of all the world's food cultures.
I think the poll is about the food that originally from there.
International cuisine isn't exclusive to the US.
When I was there meat was incredible
What meat? Like just in general? Mexican? Chinese American? Mexican American?
Barbecue. The US has a specialization in meat cooked at a low temperature for ridiculously long times (like 12 hours). Pulled pork, ribs, brisket, chicken...etc. There are different regional versions like Carolina, Atlanta, Memphis, Kansas City, Texas.
There’s a place near me (American) that slow cooks their meat for like 48 hours before serving it. It’s fucking incredible
What do you see in the meat aisle of a grocery store
As a french i'm happy to see that Redditors like our foods :)
Never had French food but voted it anyway
I don’t like any of this food
Who the hell is saying United States? The prompt says best food not who eats the most food.
Usa ? ... Lebanon has the best food among those listed but since they don't know it they didn't choose
France obviously
I voted US because we have every food even if you say “it’s not as good as where it comes from” it’s still damn good and 90% of the time you can find a small place owned by some old lady who makes her food taste exactly like back home.
I live in the US and there is a Mexican restaurant near me that has an abuela outside hand making fresh tortillas every day. And I live in a small ass town with under 10k people far away from big cities.
Yeah the US has some excellent Mexican food options for sure. Depending on the state of course.
Italy?
italy
Italy and Germany imo Really wonder why Italy isn't listed
Because they always win this poll lmao
Germany never wins. At least I haven't seen it win. It's always Italy cause of Pizza and Pasta.
I was referring to the "Italy not mentioned here" but yeah Italy wrongfully always wins even when France is a choice. Signed, an angry French.
Which is funny cause the modern versions of those were invented in the US by Italian Americans
US food over Spain? Spanish food is criminally underrated in reddit
Who voted for plastic cheese and fast food 💀 (Also why not italy ? I wouldnt have voted for them but they have some great food)
The aging time for Colby Jack is just two weeks. That's absurd. Nor wonder it looks so strange.
I'm not even American but I can appreciate the beauty of a properly well made burger. I don't think it's fair to base all American cuisine off of McDonald's.
anyone who says USA hasn't had any other cultures food
Here is my logic. They didn't say that the food was from the US so it could also include other food generally made in the US. So Thai, Chinese, Mexican, etc. If you mean food actually originated from the US, there isn't much of anything.
Right. I see your point and it’s valid, but you can also find all these foods in America as there are immigrants from all these countries with restaurants there: many of them Michelin Rated.
Hahah who the fk voting for America
Anyone who votes US has never eaten outside of it
Fr
voted US and never been inside of it
France has the best food in the world
How the fuck is French not first, like BRUH
Where tf is Indian food?
would be my choice if it was here
No British food 😞
Everyone here forgetting shawarma is Lebanese
where did Kazakhstan come from
This is such a random assortment of countries to arrange, but I think Lebanese food is the tastiest of the options I'd say.
Yalla habibi
Isnt the US just triple fried cheese?
Not just cheese, we deep fry everything.
*Internal screaming*
The U.S. cause you can get all of those countries food and more
Kazakhstan number 1 food. Great success!
How to tell Reddit traffic is 50% just Americans. Also where Japan, where Italy ?
All the Americans voting they’re country is my guess
In the USA you have access to authentic food from all over the world if you are near a major metro area.
United States only because we take everyone’s food and alter it
which is why food is worse here lol
LIES!!! The Philippino-Japanese fusion place by me is the absolute tits
US fusion food is really good, I’ll give the US that much at least.
Houston's viet-cajun was fucking phenomenal.
Got a lot of self-hating americans in the comments assuming "american food" means fast food. Go outside and actually look for good food, you'll find it.
Yall talking about american food as if its all cheap fast food ignorant af
United States is nice because we have a melting pot of foods. So you can eat food from basically any country here.
Italy🇮🇹
Thailand. And Sweden 🇸🇪 🇹🇭
Italy or Greece
U left india
In the US we have great versions of all foods.
Us.. Lol
Everything you find in ant othe country can be found within a square mile grid of NYC. And in basically any town with a population above say 30k you'll find a huge spectrum of ethnic foods. Thus America is the best because we have it all.
My small town under 10k has Indian, Greek, and four different regional varieties of Mexican food. And it's all good.
US because it has basically anything you'd want if you go to the right place
Only been to 4 of them and Spain is very far from having the best food here lmao
Lol where the fuck did you eat at in spain
why is that? I lived in Spain and the food was the best I've had
