Did you bribe the examiner to get your driver's license?
By - GodTierAimbotUser69
My examiner took me on an illegal route which invoked a 2 blind side directions across a busy section of road that was legitimately fucked to ask of anyone. I had to floor it to get just into the opposite of the road and then was told to turn left immediately.
She wanted to fail me but my instructor found out and was seen heavily shouting at the manager of the department because they had been told not to do it because they were taking bribes on the side because it was essentially a setup to fail scenario.
I passed. Fuck you Thandi.
My examiner also tried to fail me. Everytime we got to a stop street I’d stop, switch gears, check the road, mirrors, etc., then go, but just as I’d start moving again she’d scream “STOP! STOP!”
Obviously, I stop. Then she opens the door, sticks her head out, and looks at the tires. The first two times I was extremely confused, the third time I was already over the line by the time I stopped. She pointed out that I “stopped over the line” and thus got me an automatic fail.
I complained to the manager who checked security cameras in the local area… saw that she was visibly making a commotion in the car every time before I had stopped, getting out of the car after my second stop, and so on. So I got to redo my licence the next day, and passed with flying colours.
Same thing happened to me... I didn't know the dude was being a corrupt poes... Thought all examiners were like him
This kind of corruption makes me pretty angry. To fuck with kids like that.
This shit is why I'm such an asshole now.
Oh my.... I'm already stressed on getting a driver's license (I'm scared of driving) but now i gotta worry about corruption too!?
It's not that bad in CT at least. I personally don't know anyone who had any issues here.
Just go to the right testing station. Some of them are good and others are very corrupt. Just go with a good driving school and a good testing station. I know 1 person who passed at the one testing station without a bribe, and 8 who were “asked” for bribes at that station but passed at another.
Yeah fuck you thandi
Yeah my examiner also took me way off route. My personal driving instructor the morning of showed me the 4 routes and my examiner just did her own thing completely.
Which department was this?
I failed my first test and was offered the chance to "Finalise my results" but I declined.
and then what happened afterwards? did you get it?
No, he just failed me after I told him no. I got it legitimately at a different testing station soon after that.
Good on you.
Hella corrupt testing place. You'll be very lucky if you can get it without a bribe.
I got mine after 3 tries, no bribing :/
Same here, and my instructor was in on it
I didn't have to he fell asleep , so I completed my route. As I returned to the traffic dept I braked hard and he woke up ticked everything and boom! I was legal on the road.
He was obviously hungover from the previous Sunday but I ain't gna complain...
I had to bribe to get a booking
I thought that's just the normal payment
it do be like that sometimes
Nope. They wouldn't convert my Australian license either so I did the K53 as an already licensed driver. Then moved to the states and they wouldn't convert either of my licenses so I've done driving tests on 3 continents now.
Which test was the hardest?
I'm also curious
Uhhhh, kinda hard to tell, I think the overall process in Australia is the hardest. The South African driving test itself checks you on more things overall if I remember correctly.
USA is the easiest.
USA is usually automatic right?
As in an automatic car? Yeah seems like stick shift is not that common anymore. I did manual cars in both SA and Australia but keep in mind my doing these tests spans the course of about 10 years.
Interesting. What made the Australian process hard?
In Australia you get your learners permit and you're then required to log 120 hours of driving with a fully licensed driver before even doing your driving test, 20 of those hours being at night.
You then get a P1 license which has certain restrictions, have to be on that for I think 18 months, then you can get your P2 and then after another year I think I you can get your full license.
I did my ZA ones legitimately (car in PTA, bike in CPT, before bribing and corruption was the expected norm) and easily converted them to full equivalents in NSW when I arrived. The irony...
I got bounced around to 3 different license departments in one day before being told they won't convert it :)
What I did do though was I did my test in an area where they were known to be lax, and I found a local driving instructor to show me the route they use.
Not directly, but I had to pay 3rd party service to do all my paperwork and stand in queues on my behalf. Theres literally a whole service industry that orientated around getting your documents in order. something that should not exist in the first place thanks to government being so incompetent.
I ran a red light and the examiner tallied my score infront of me, looked me in my eyes, and was like “youuuu… ok you pass” and it was so confusing bro. I didn’t bribe her but she definitely shouldn’t have given me a license
Honestly I don't know... I suspect my driving school instructor might have.
To make a Long Story short I was about to pass my driving test, before I was about to pull back to the yard to complete the test, some taxi came and drove into the back of my car while I was stationed at a red robot.
The officer that did my test was planning to reschedule my test for another day again, but when my driver instructor came to the Driving Place, the officer changed their mind and gave me a pass, since only thing I had left was emergency stopping.
I didn't complain, I just took my license and went, I had still had Matric exams coming up so I didn't want to struggle more for a license.
That was my 3rd test though, first time failed incline, second my mirror was over the line for parallel parking. But the amount of times those officers offered "Gaurantee Pass" and the amount of times I saw people paying for it made me realise how corrupt goverment was right to lowest level.
Also explains why people drive so shit nowdays in Johannesburg and even worse in Cape Town. Especially the taxi's, FUCK THEM!
Government =/= license departments, also if your mirror was over the line for parallel parking they should have given you a 2nd chance to do parallel parking.
One would argue that license departments are indeed part of government
Didn’t have to pay a bribe at any stage and passed the first time around. Krugersdorp has some lovely examiners. Professional and friendly.
For real. Did my first test at Randburg, I pulled off at a green light and a bakkie cut in front of me without signalling. The examiner then said "That was a dangerous and uncontrolled action on your part!" She failed me.
Went to Krugersdorp for my second test and had no issues.
I know of two people that bribed the examiner. The examiner wanted a bribe from me too, which my dumb ass only realised afterwards. Luckily I didn't need to.
Happy cake day
Same 😂"the old pull over let's talk about the mistake"...I thought he genuinely wanted to talk
My friend's brother, just after he got his licence, got pulled over by the cops who then gave him a "spot fine". He paid the bribe then asked for a receipt! The whole family isn't known for being street-smart.
That's crazy haha, well now I definitely am....the problem I had with my drivers is that I was driving so well, however I kept the guy know it was my first time (first mistake) and then he explicitely instructed me to drive over a solid line, afterwards he told me to pull over and said "you just drove over a solid line do you know that?" ....like wtf bra you just told me to
The same way you don't kill someone if a police officer tells you to kill someone
The driving instructor didn't draw up K53 laws , You're supposed to question his behaviour when it is a blatant violation
>then he explicitely instructed me to drive over a solid line,
Yes, to see whether or not you know you can't.
This is meant to test your knowledge of the rules and to see whether you're paying attention to signs and road markings.
Haha you thought he'd be on some "just take it easy on the clutch, don't overthink and you've got this!"
Hell no. Nor do I know anyone that did (though my cousin mentioned her wearing an extra short skirt on testing day lol). That was like 10 years ago, so things may have changed since
Also judging by what's happening on the roads I'd say a significant chunk blaming failing on corruption simply can't drive well
It was stressful AF but I got it legit
Got mine legit, but it was way easier than I thought, examiner just took me round the block while being on her phone the whole time. From the horror stories I hear from friends and family regarding the test I consider myself lucky, unless there's something I don't know about lol
Fuckers failed me 9 times, problem is I'm not that bright and didn't understand they wanted a bribe. Then I find out the car trainers were in on it as I kept going back for more lessons.
The traffic cops got fired a few years after that.
I had a "guaranteed pass" test organised with my driving instructor in Durban. This was after 3 failed attempts due to nerves. I did the test, casually, talking with my hands, relaxed, guaranteed pass. Completed the test, Past the test, only to get back to my instructor and for him to tell me that he owes me some of my "fee" back???? Turns out, the woman examiner wouldn't accept the bribe as I was too white and she didn't want to land up on Carte Blanche.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
FYI, I paid the bribe, the place where I was testing was corrupt as hell, heard of some instances where you can buy your licenses at other places.
Particularly bad in KZN. I know of a guy who failed 3 times because he refused to bribe. Failed on trivial reasons. Paid bribe on 4th time and passed.
i paid it on my 3rd time
I didn't bribe, but the guy testing me basically slept or was on his phone the entire time.
When we are happy for ineptitude because its better than corruption
I think you might have just summarised how I feel about government.
No luckily not. I tested at Watloo. The guy just didn't want to talk to me.
Same at Bellville for EC, old Code 14. The guy just didn't want to talk to me. Strict but fair.
K53 in Brackenfell many years ago, had a very nice guy, but with a stutter. Was challenging.
Bike license in Malmesbury many years ago, everyone was super friendly and very professional.
Yeah rolling is a fail as far as I know. Wish they were that lenient here
Rolling back is definitely a fail. I did it on my first attempt. Second was a less than stellar alley docking. Looking back, that was my potential bribe moment. Got it legitimately on my third attempt. I didn't buy my license, but I've bought plenty of traffic officers for a variety of infringements. It's just easier than the admin
My boyfriend told me he knew a guy that had a whole sheep in the back of the car and when the examiner got in and asked about it he just casually told him "That's for you."
He got his driver's that day
Lol i find that hard to believe that the examiner actually took that sheep lol
Are you South African? Because a South African would know shit like that happens all the time 😂
My ex co-worker got out of being arrested for drunk driving by giving the policeman the pizza he had in his car
Nee fok daar is geen manier, dat daai persoon n skaap terug kantoor toe vat, miskien, miskien nie.
Dude, jy kani vir my sê dat dit moontlikheid vir so situasie nul is nie 😂
Lol, ek weeti, miskien 1%
Hierdie herinner my aan dai King Price braai ad. Worth the Google 👌 actually al hulle ads is great
Where can one do this? (Asking for a friend👀)
the entire Vaal is corrupt except Sasolburg license department.
My daughter's driving school will only take their students to Edenvale because they do not have to pay bribes there.
any Corrupt areas in Pta ?
best to ask your local driving school. they are as corrupt as the examiners. The driving schools will ask you if you want a straight test or not. If you say no they will arrange for a corrupt examiner to test you... you will send the money to driving school and the driving school will take a cut and send the rest to the examiner. sometimes the examiner will take you on an easy route just to pass time and you'll come back to the testing station to get your license
Lol i dont know bra, but i heard springs is also corrupt, a cousin of mine and a friend got a bribe there, also heard its R1500 for a bribe in secunda
Know anything about Edenvale?
not a cooking clue bra, best to ask your driving school I suppose
Search on Gumtree for ‘Guaranteed Pass’ driving schools
I got mine and 3 other people as well. It was R2500🥴🥴🥴but we still had to do the whole yard test and stuff
I'll be doing that👀 for a friend ofcourse 😂
Hope it works out for your friend🥲
I don’t know a truck driver who hasn’t bribed. The licence+classes are expensive and they aren’t exactly rich so it’s a safe bet to just bribe although I think trucks are pretty easy to pass.
I got failed by the instructor when she told me, don't stop at this stop Street, it's dangerous. So I skipped it, and now she wanted to talk about if I should get anther chance. 2nd try, the instructor tells me to drive to the middle of the intersection to turn when I get a chance. llight turns red with people blasting through it, so now I'm turning over a red, automatic fail. I was so pissed I made an appointment at a place where I know everyone bribes, and went on a joyride with the guy, which included me driving on the wrong side of the road cause it had no markings.
Two bottles of Klipdrift and a braaipack later, wwalked away with my licence. I know it feeds corruption when you pay the bribe, but fuck getting screwed over for taking the honest route.
I was advised by my driving school instructor to do the bribe. It's more of an assurance so that it's a definite pass instead of maybe slipping up. In hindsight, I'm sure he took some of the cut and the rest went to the examiner. My driving school instructor placed the bribe in an envelope and in the passenger door. I know I would have passed without it but he explained you rather make 100% sure now instead of having to go through the process again, being Indian this was a no question asked deal and agreed to on the spot by my dad lol.
I bribed because that's the only way I could get my license after being failed twice when I didn't have a bribe.
Why would need to bribe? I had my car turn off in my test and still got it the first time. Just practice till you know you can do all the parking and know what speed to drive in different areas.
Some examiners will purposefully fail you in order to solicit a bribe.
They're full of kak and I guess people don't feel like dealing with that... I eventually got mine on the third try and I never want to go through that stress again
My brother also failed a few times, but he made the car roll backwards each time. Once he got that right he got it.
Such a good feeling when you get it! I tried twice in Durban then I moved to Pretoria and attempted it again in Centurion where my examiner was on her phone and I made a mistake which I thought was an instant fail but she just told me to carry on,no fee required lol
My guy was mumbling when to turn and when I asked left? , he would just stare at me. Guess I was lucky.
I think so
Out of curiosity, what bribes are people paying?
you mean the amount?
Or the item? I've heard the tongue in cheek "have a bottle of whiskey roll out from under the seat at the emergency stop" thing, but that's about it?
The standard is R2500 as far as I'm concerned
Bro, as an 18 year old I did not have a spare R2500 to buy a license. How do people afford that shit?
Parents, if you can afford R2500 for lessons, then i suppose you can afford R2500 for a bribe. That's their logic, also these fuckers will fail you so many times that you will eventually pay more than R2500 in the long run.
Yeah, my guy was the only guy in the building (and i guess in every traffic department) that was wearing an officer uniform.
There’s no way a poll like this will be representative. It expects people to fess up to it (even anonymously), and it’s from those who are on Reddit, not a typical group.
I’ve also seen driving instructor groups add a separate mysterious fee that I’ve speculated is a bribe for the tester, so some might not even directly know.
The proportion will probably be quite a bit higher.
I suppose so, I'm here for the comments though lol.
I still don't know why I failed the first time. The examiner said I was in the wrong lane in a traffic circle and I was very surprised - the lanes were clearly marked - and especially as I'd definitely done everything else perfectly. (I had a really good instructor who took me on all the test routes.)
So maybe he wanted something from me, but he didn't get it. My instructor just made another appointment for me.
Next time use a stop sign as a yield sign, and if they fail you there, tell them to get out lol (see how they will panic) [FYI this is bad advice don't use it lol]
What is the "Results" option in the poll?
Just to see the results, not to vote
No, but on my first attempt the examiner tried to solicit a bribe. I declined and got my license on my second attempt.
Good on you
I've heard about someone who bribed the examiner yet the examiner still failed them regardless...they were so frustrated because now they lost money but obviously they couldn't openly complain about it either because they were the one who bribed in the first place
they should at least get it back. i know of a guy who rolled on a steep and got his bribe back
Was 24 years ago though.
mmm maybe i should make a new poll, for those who got their license in the past 5 years
Why don't I believe these results, most people I know paid the bribe after multiple attempts, some just couldn't even get a booking
Many of us are older and got licences when bribes weren't needed to pass or book. I got mine in the late 1990s.
On my 6th attempt at getting my license, I rolled the car yet again in the parking bay. Except this time, the examiner (who clearly hates her job and made no secret of how lazy she is) was outside the vehicle and too busy fixing her dress in the wind to see or notice. I cannot thank her enough for this. So yeah I got it legally technically but still questionable. However the damn car rolling crap is still ridiculous.
I got mine legitimately, from my side. I do believe though that the driving instructor I went with, who was a former traffic officer, was giving back handers to the examiners. I made a couple of mistakes that in my mind should have fail me yet I passed with flying colours. All my friends except one used him too, the one that didn't was the only one to fail.
More relevant for me is, has anyone been arrested for offering a bribe before?
I didn't brine but my instructor didn't give a shit, told me to not waste his time with all the nitpicky stuff and just drive normally. Got a perfect score
You need to add an option for was offered but declined
Think I might make a 2nd one
I actually messed up a little. He gave me another shot and i passed legitimately. He was nice to me. Not all guys are bad guys.
So in short about 14% get it illegally.
Not really, like the demographic here doesn't represent everyone, and some people got their licenses in the 90s aswell where the test was pretty simple aswell though.
Got mine legit. Failed the physical test the first time, passed the second time around.
I'll never forget doing my driving test and my driving instructor telling me to do a parallel park and I did the best parallel park of my life before she came to my window and told me she asked me to do a 3 point turn and instantly failed me for "rolling back"... I tried to correct her and say that's not what she asked but she interrupts me mid way calling me an idiot and that I didnt pay attention to her. I was completely shell shocked by this and froze up. I'm sure you can imagine it's quite traumatic to have that happen to young person already nervous as hell doing their drivers for the first time. I forget the name of the lady but she works at the milnerton traffic department in cape town, and as I far as I know shes still there today. My advice if you need to do your drivers avoid that place completely. I passed the second time in Atlantis, much better place with staff who are actually awake :)
Funny story, my ID was stolen with my learners in it. When I got my replacement it was a full code 8. Never drove with it for almost 5 years until I went for it again. The officer on duty just shook his head. Said no one would have known. I told him I would. Nevertheless I failed that day for doing 80 in a 60 zone. 😀😀😀 I arrived a week later and got the same guy. Was super relaxed. He went through my old test and only had me do the one or two items I had actually lost any points on. That was also in 7:30 am Midrand traffic. It almost took an hour and a half as it was all stop go traffic outside Gallagher estates. Glad to say I passed that time.
Using your old test? What year was this?
Pretty sure I wasn't even born by then lol, but yeah, they pretty strict these days, these examiners have a broomstick up their asshole or something.
This was still k53, just not full of shit. The 60 zone was set up to catch you out. It was a 200m strip on an 80zone just outside the testing station. You were also taken through a parking lot with half-hidden stop signs.
Yup, did you also do parallel parking, alley docking, 3 point turn and the hill stop, before going out to drive for like 20 minutes or so?
Yup, and emergency braking. The standard testing has been around since 90’s. It was an adaption of the military test apparently. That one was quite a bastard to. I remember some of my mates moaning that they had to take Kwe 100’s with a trailer around right traffic circles
I didn't but he wanted a bribe and thus failed me twice, i got mine from the town next to that one.
My friend was told to drive down the wrong way of a one-way road and was failed for doing it.
If shit like that happens, tell the person to get out of the car, and drive back to where the car needs to go. They will quickly change their mind
Most people I know could only get their licenses by graft. They drove perfectly fine but couldn't pass unless they paid. A friend did her test seven times until she finally paid.
Sucks man I paid mine on the 3rd
Well, my examiner was actually pretty cool.
He told me what not to do, and how to do what.
In the end, he told me where to improve my driving and what to look out for when in the real world.
Had a mate fail his test 3 times, in Sabie, a town with literally no robots. Mxm
Had the meanest and strictest examiner and still passed with flying colours my first try my buddy on the other hand who tested after me had one of the friendliest examiners and failed miserably
