This. Don't know of a better place for a big, cheap and good burger. However sloppy you want to get with toppings, they are there for you, but also good quality if you want to keep it simple.
Yes! That .50 ice cream was my motivation on Tuesdays and Thursdays when the only thing I had to go onto campus for was a single 3:30 class. I rewarded myself with a scoop for attending. I got to know a younger dude who worked there and always scooped my ice cream for me. Wholesome story: One day it was pouring down rain and I seriously considered forgoing my ice cream even though I’d gone to class. I decided that I would still have my ice cream! When I got to Hodgson’s, my ice cream buddy was standing just inside the door to open it for me. He was like, “I was wondering if you were still gonna come by today in all this rain!”
I wonder what became of that dude from time to time. I can’t remember his name, but he was awesome!
Not cheap, and the burgers aren't super big neither they can make them tall by adding a bunch of like lettuce and stuff but the hamburger patty is definitely more medium sized
Aww, I thought this place was closed. I would have gone there when I was in town for the Rompus, had I known that was not the case. I love their chocolate!
Got their cheeseburger and fries for lunch to go this week. $15 out the door before tip. Too expensive however it’s a huge burger and filled me up for the rest of the day. Could nearly make 2 meals of it
They have some huge burgers. Also you can do the chef special and use some words to inspire them, I’ve done “beast” and “monster” and gotten some of the biggest burgers I’ve ever eaten.
I just go for their animal style double double burger (aka "Verbal C&D double double burger" on the menu). It's easily the best smash burger within 25 miles.
I don't know about big, but they have chili you can put on burgers at Grindhouse. It's a little overpriced but it's good. LR Burger near Monroe is also decent, still a little overpriced.
On a tangentially related note, I heard they are building 3 Whataburger joints in/around Athens. I'm hyped for that.
Casey's checks all the boxes, except it's in Winder and not Athens.
They are really great burgers.
They also have a great chicken salad pita
We need a place that does a great smash burger. If we already have one I'd love to know about it.
I had Cafe Racer's recently and it is my new favorite burger in town (replacing Hobo).

Yesssss
Man, I went by the globe and they had an excellent smash burger. Check it out, snooty types in there but good food nonetheless. Not very cheap though
Isn't five guys basically smash burgers? They are so freaking expensive with not a lot of actual meat
No they are very different burgers and fries.
Traveling Hobo Cafe in Watkinsville

Farm cart has a surprisingly really good burger
Savvy burgers out in Statham. Chuck Norris Burger is insane.
Everything at Savvy's is awesome
Cafe racer food truck. Follow them in FB to find out where they are.
Oh yes. Not cheap though.
Cowboy Burger!!!! Amazing

Brett's on Atl Hwy -- Also, the burger at Sr Sol is VERY good.
I hear the brisket burger at Tamez is very good. They post on their social media every time they have a burger special and it does look tasty.
Personal fan of Grindhouse! Burgers aren’t massive but you can get a double, and I spend roughly $24 for two people.
The cheddar sauce for the fries is sublime!
I love their turkey burgers 🤤

I loooove Add Drug. They still have the lunch counter and it’s such a fun place to eat. A nice little throwback!

I love Clocked but def not cheap

WHITE TIGER
Seconded! Sooo good

Still open, and just opened a second location in Watkinsville called White Tiger Deluxe. It's terrific!
My husband just reminded me to also add Porterhouse to the list!
Try the Fat Matt at the Blind Pig Tavern downtown.
The world famous

You can get a 5 oz. or an 8 oz burger at Blind Pig, which helps from feeling overstuffed and saves some cash.
I miss the Ghetto Burger from Anne’s
it was so good and way more than any one person could ever expect to eat in one sitting
Big City Bread has a pretty substantial cheeseburger https://i.imgur.com/P64sdQE.jpg
Catch 22!
Hold the Q anon!

And a side of pandemic denial.
Yep, I used to love that place. Dudes pandemic shitposts insured I’d never eat there again!
They have some huge burgers. Also you can do the chef special and use some words to inspire them, I’ve done “beast” and “monster” and gotten some of the biggest burgers I’ve ever eaten.

This place's menu is full of overwrought stunt food drawing on food trends a couple years behind the curve. Yawn.
And infested with roaches
Freddy's on Epps Bridge. They have a good burger.
That ain’t a juicy burger. It’s a small step up from steak and shake. Thin and nasty.
I don't know about big, but they have chili you can put on burgers at Grindhouse. It's a little overpriced but it's good. LR Burger near Monroe is also decent, still a little overpriced. ….sure do miss Allen’s in Normaltown. During a major ice storm it was the only place open as it was on the same power grid as the hospital
Smileys once they open an actual place.
Catch 22 is great.
