I mean this is probably the best option since no other team wants to host it. I canāt remember who mentioned it, but just remember it couldāve been played online as wellā¦
Yeah this is the best resolution to an unfortunate situation. I wouldnāt have gone in person anyway so as selfish as it sounds, it makes no difference to me. Plus Iām kinda hyped to see some tense SnD moments without a loud crowd
Disagree it seems as though they didnāt even present the opportunity to the teams
[GM of Boston said so ](https://twitter.com/denzjt/status/1628917651052417031?s=21&t=9cz49tY5Lm2MHqz5-vwisw)
So does that mean there is going to be a challengers tourny going on in ohio along side the major? Because if not then it's like why did they disallow NY from hosting in the first place? lol
Yeah there should be. Every major is supposed to have a challengers event as well. Last yearās NY event they had Boston host the challengerās thing in tandem
They just didnāt wanna host it. Thereās also no challengers in Columbus as of now
Also not entirely against you, more the community in general. Theyāll hear one narrative and then repeat it over and over as if it was their own opinion until the end of time
Seemed like that was the reasoning at the time the news broke according to articles like this one: https://www.levelup.com/en/news/716211/Call-of-Duty-League-Major-4-will-not-be-hosted-by-New-York-Subliners-next-year. I wasnāt trying to spread misinformation tbf.
Also your point about Columbus might be true though since that event was almost online I doubt that venue would be big enough for challengers as well.
I think you misread āthe venue was too small _even_ for a challengers eventā as āthe venue was too small for a challengers event.ā
I also donāt think youāre purposely trying to spread misinformation, you just gotta be careful on this sub bc people will run w it even if it isnāt true
My thoughts exactly. I donāt know why they fucking around with this bullshit after spot cost that damn much. They donāt care about the fans anymore, they just want to do āwhatās best for themā and move along
I severely doubt the titans of the esports scene are struggling with money. CoD has never had the mainstream success that its PC counterparts have had. You will never hear that CSGO or Valorant are having issues maintaining franchises and viewership. This is all Activisions fault for having no integrity towards their product and also why nobody outside of the CoD scene takes this franchise seriously. (Which is a shame cause I think competitive CoD has so much potential that it will never reach)
I miss the days of pro league teams being seeded with open bracket qualifiers joining them in a true group stage. Those were truly the glory days. I would spend three days straight watching dozens of games and now we get like 10 total each tourney. Itās truly a shame how far weāve fallen
yāall keep cooking the CDL but yāall should be cooking NYSL for backing out lmao. Obv not the best option but tf you want CDL to do when it was supposed to be an NYSL event.
Idk man if I paid 25million dollars for my spot in the league on top of the couple hundred thousand a year on salaries, Iād expect the league to organise the tournaments, locations etc etc
nysl only backed out Cause there is litterally no place big enough for a challengers and the major itself in the same or near the same building. kings theater, where it would have been, isnt big enough.
and before we say msg, radio city or barclays, those are expensive as hell and the cdl nor nyxl is paying for those venues. in the words of dana white, you need 500k to turn the lights on in msg.
i guess plan c would be to spilt the events again. but its clear the cdl wants them near each other.
As someone who lives here in Columbus... and has been supportive of MLG/CWL/CDL for over a decade... its beyond frustrating to know there's an event happening in your backyard and you can't attend.
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop -Ā yes,Ā IĀ amĀ aĀ bot, don't botcriminate me.
Whoever is running the leauge is stealing checks at this point. Unacceptable to have a LAN event in 2023 without an audience. The leauge is responsible for making sure events get held, not teams. This incompetence should not go unpunished by Microsoft once they finally take over.
Hopefully the setup & production is better than the Columbus tournament, last year. Last yearās setup felt like it was some makeshift stuff thrown together in a basement, so people can watch & bet on it
This may not be fun for us fans not being able to go, but based on the cost of this, this could end up being successful enough that they bring back the LAN League
Just waiting for the day the league starts to really lean more heavily on the teams who own/partner with venues.
I'm curious if Optic, Boston, etc. would have turned down the opportunity to host a second event this year. Or if the league just doesnt want to overuse premium locations/events....
All because CDL requiring fucking challengers. Fuck the CDL and challengers, that NY venue was great last year and wouldāve been great again.
Common CDL L
I mean this is probably the best option since no other team wants to host it. I canāt remember who mentioned it, but just remember it couldāve been played online as wellā¦
It was mentioned on the community update with Spence. Yea unfortunate but it's better then online major for sure
Yeah this is the best resolution to an unfortunate situation. I wouldnāt have gone in person anyway so as selfish as it sounds, it makes no difference to me. Plus Iām kinda hyped to see some tense SnD moments without a loud crowd

I heard they werenāt given the option to host. It was just the cdl trying to find a venue that wasnāt a teams.
It sucks but at least they got it on LAN instead of online igā¦
Thatās so unfortunate :/
I understand the leagueās hands were probably tied with NYSL backing out but what an absolute shitshow
Why did NYSL back out?
There was no space to host a challengers tournament in the venue
So does that mean there is going to be a challengers tourny going on in ohio along side the major? Because if not then it's like why did they disallow NY from hosting in the first place? lol
Yeah there should be. Every major is supposed to have a challengers event as well. Last yearās NY event they had Boston host the challengerās thing in tandem
You gotta stop saying stuff when youāre not even right bc people are gonna believe you and start repeating it
What was the reason then? Iām pretty sure thatās what was being talked about at the time they canceled it
They just didnāt wanna host it. Thereās also no challengers in Columbus as of now Also not entirely against you, more the community in general. Theyāll hear one narrative and then repeat it over and over as if it was their own opinion until the end of time

But I thought the challengers scene was not being supported?
25m a spot for this
My thoughts exactly. I donāt know why they fucking around with this bullshit after spot cost that damn much. They donāt care about the fans anymore, they just want to do āwhatās best for themā and move along
Gotta feel sorry for all the mugs who spent 25m on a spot in this league ššš
Itās all VC money they literally could not care less
People will be angry but esports are struggling with money, so this isn't surprising.
Not only that, in the grand scheme of things, it is not enough time to find a venue. Itās why you hear about concerts many months in advance
People wont like hearing this reasonable reason - league is a joke!
That too.
They found this out in December. I would think they could find something with a six month notice.
Venues are booked well in advance. Our wedding venue is fully booked for the next 2 years.
New York is impossible to get anything as well
Boston said they have a venue and werenāt even contacted. So do you think they were actually trying or

Basically just Columbus pro league
This is pathetic.
Why no audience?
Not enough time to secure a venue ig
I would've offered my house
I would of offered my neighborhood
Posted up with my codcomp boys on this guy's cul-de-sac
Fist fighting the ice cream man after his vanās music disrupts my soundwhoring in G5R11
Major 4 officially does not count (unless OpTic wins).
Kill the league. Just go back to the open tournaments.
I miss the days of pro league teams being seeded with open bracket qualifiers joining them in a true group stage. Those were truly the glory days. I would spend three days straight watching dozens of games and now we get like 10 total each tourney. Itās truly a shame how far weāve fallen

Really really disappointed in that. I was so excited to go to my first event when I heard it was in Columbus but I guess I'll have to keep waiting.
They could have done it at the javits center lmaooo
Easily
All to have challengers at the venue SMH. Fuck the challengers man that New York venue was the GOAT!!
Jesus Christ. They come here and donāt even have a crowd? WTF. Use part of the convention center. One room would be plenty.
That sucks hella, but at least itās on LAN.
Lmao talk about the bare fucking minimum
LOL what a joke!
Embarrassing LMAO
The one time Iām live in Columbus the have no live audience š„²š„²š„²š„²š„²
Show up and see what happens lol
They should of just chalked challengers smh the ny major was so much fun last year
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop -Ā yes,Ā IĀ amĀ aĀ bot, don't botcriminate me.
25m per team league btw.
Choosing a challengers LAN over having fans in the venue is dumb as hell lmao, 99% of comp cod fans donāt even give af about challengers
this league is great thanks activision
This league needs to fold already

So much disappointment
Competitive has so much momentum right now with ranked rolling out, its a bummer they arent running with it
Hopefully the setup & production is better than the Columbus tournament, last year. Last yearās setup felt like it was some makeshift stuff thrown together in a basement, so people can watch & bet on it
Dang, I was hoping to attend if it was in Columbus.
Will there be a challengers bracket? Iām near Columbus and was hopeful I could compete
What a complete joke
Major 4 officially will count as a micky mouse win lol
I literally live two hours from Columbus and have always wanted to go to a major im so sad
Canāt we just bring back MLG and not have to worry about this shit?
This may not be fun for us fans not being able to go, but based on the cost of this, this could end up being successful enough that they bring back the LAN League
Damn teams selling spots, majors being held without crowds wtf is going on right now.
It's not online. I'll take it. It's crumbs, but I'll take it.
I'm confused because why can't the league host it themselves?? Does it have to be hosted by the orgs??
Not happening but they should use this opportunity to include challenger teams like at Major 1
Why did the New York one get cancelled again? Wouldāve been the one event that wouldāve been feasible for me to go to
Venture capital drying up and investors pulling out.
Lmao they couldnāt just put challengers in Columbus and let NY host the CDL event.
Absolutely embarrassing, this league is on life support.
Common League L
Just waiting for the day the league starts to really lean more heavily on the teams who own/partner with venues. I'm curious if Optic, Boston, etc. would have turned down the opportunity to host a second event this year. Or if the league just doesnt want to overuse premium locations/events....
No audience lol they coulda made money off me š¤·š»āāļø
Say it with me, CWL
L League. Only 2 of 12 teams willing to host. LOL
āBlow it upā
All because CDL requiring fucking challengers. Fuck the CDL and challengers, that NY venue was great last year and wouldāve been great again. Common CDL L
I canāt see me to find the reasoning anywhere. Can someone tell me why NY isnāt hosting anymore?
Pathetic
If they can make it on a set with some drama and not some sweaty back room that would be nice
