Davidson River Brevard NC! Trout season opens first Saturday in April! You have a good selection of local waters around this area that are always producing nice trout.
It's single hook artificial there. That's how I fish anyways but it's something to be aware of if someone's planning a trip. I also always have better luck at mills river. My favorite around my area is the rocky broad along number 9 (not the stretch along chimney rock)
Imo the Davidson is over pressured compared to most rivers in wnc too. My go too around here if I'm not fly fishing Is the original mepps aglia gold blade in number 1. 99% of the time its the best choice around here.
There are a lot of stocked waters near Clayton and a few wild trout areas. War Woman creek, Tallulah, Sara creek, etc. You should be able to find plenty of info/maps along with stocking times online.
Ok thanks yeah we usually always see those but the biggest trout we have caught is like 11 inches and we go atleast once a year so I was wondering if anyone knew where to catch bigger ones.
There’s a great book on Amazon that list all fishable, stocked waters in GA along with tips and parking directions. I bought it for fly fishing but it’s awesome for non native people who trout fish in GA (grew up in IL)
For bigger trout in GA you will need to do either the tail waters of the hooch under Buford or the tallulah under blue ridge for big brown trout. The soque river and dukes creek have larger rainbows but aren’t really natural and self sustaining as all large rainbows in GA are stocked and managed for the most part.
I've caught rainbows too small to have been stocked in the very upper headwaters of the Chattahoochee, and the water below the Buford Dam near Atlanta has a healthy population of big brown trout, browns haven't been stocked there since 2003. The Coleman River has wild brook trout, isn't stocked, hard to fish though. I haven't looked into it, but the Northwest corner of GA is pretty remote, I'm sure there's some rather untouched streams up there. To your point though, the wild streams are far outnumbered by the stocked ones.
https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/girl-with-trout-video-using-a-trout-for-clout
Not the video but a description. I’m sure it would take a quick google search to find the video if you dared. I decided against it so I don’t look at trout different forever.
Just a heads up this us terrible dish handling. Don't keep them out of the water long and handle them only wiry wet hands. Also since you've gutted them there's 0 chance they'll be ok once you release them.
Ditto the Chattooga. Lots of access and not too far from Clayton. It’s also very wadeable depending on where you are so if you’re up for a walk, you can make your way to some less pressured holes.
The one downside of the chattooga is that in my and my friends’ experience, big fish have been far and few between. However, the above commenter has had a different experience so maybe I’ve just been looking in the wrong spots. Good numbers regardless, so if you’re looking for a few fish for dinner it’s a great option.
In that area you are probably going to need to get access to private property to find any large trout. I used to fish Dicks Creek and Boggs Creek a while ago. They used to have a trophy stream on Waters Creek that required special permitting but it was strictly catch and release. I don’t think they have it any more because of, you know, people.
Waters Creek is still a trophy stream. It does not require any special permits, but has very strict regulations/limits. 22inch for Browns and Rainbows, 16inch for Brook Trout. You can only keep 1 fish a day, and only 3 total over the course of a year.
Georgia needs more trophy water. They would have a decent fishery if fisherman couldnt keep their limit everyday. I have seen some surprising size trout in North Ga.
Sarah’s creek, warwoman, dicks creek. I believe you can fish around Tallulah gorge area. There’s a ton of good spots around Clayton. My folks live on Lake Burton. I’ll see if they can offer any additional recommendations.
I’ve hiked/fished the first 3 and always had a great time.
East fork of the chattooga river, war mouth, honestly you live very close to many stocked streams. Go to the DNR website and look at the map, its a great resource. Good vibes from woodstock
I've got advice but maybe not what you're after. Make sure that fish hand doesn't open the next can... that first sip of beer from a fishy hand will horrify you.
Helen Georgia is a good place to go. Past the town go to the last swap meet and up to the mountains. You'll find great camping and fishing right there.
Get a cabin near bryson city area. Cool little town with a breweries, ect. You can do a guided float trip down the Tuckasegee and then wade fish Cherokee, Nantahala, little Tennessee or the tuck.
Tallulah River off Forest Service Road 70, I caught my PB there last month, 19". Most of the fish you catch there will be 9-11" stockers, but there's definitely some stream-breds or holdovers in there. Find a spot where there are trees overhanging low to the river, creating a pocket of protected shade in a slow pool, optimally with some fast water close by. The bigger ones seem to prefer the low hanging trees/bushes for cover more than rocks, maybe because nobody casts into the trees. I've never been here specifically, but Nichols Campground is right between the public and private sections of the river, probably some nice ones holed up before you get on private land. I'm not sure if it's available for day use though.
Just my two cents.
Lotta good trout fishing in Rabun County. PM me for details, a lot of the fisheries around that area are small streams that get crowded very equickly. A few places to start would be Tallulah river, sarahs creek, etc - those streams are very well known, so can’t hurt to have a few more people.
Please don't eat them. I am an avid fisherman and used to love and had great pride in eating my catch, but I also feel the responsibility in sharing this recent study.

Fish have way too much toxic chemicals now and I would hate for you guys to get sick.
Great catch though!!!
That’s a very black and white take on the subject. Those might be stocked fish that haven’t spent much of their life in that waterway. Most aquaculture operations are terribly detrimental to the environment, and it can be hard to know what species you’re actually buying or where it came from. Consumption advisories based on species and the water the fish was caught from are your best guide for anything you catch yourself.
I'm from the PNW. There's thousands of 70+ year old Eastern European n Asian dudes (a few ladies as well) that eat carp and other various native "trash fish", multiple times a week, year round. They fish in THE most polluted spots in the region, spots so bad that the F&W has warning signs (for last 15-20 years) about consuming fish in these areas. There's this one Russian dude that I see a few times a year...he's like 6'6" 325lb n prolly 80 years old. Always has on overalls commando style with one strap undone n slams bud light clamato rain or shine, I'm gonna guess he eats about 10 lbs of carp every week of the year, that is prolly on the low end of the reality too. There's no question in my mind he could beat the brakes off me if he felt like it. So what do u figure is the harm in OP n his old lady eating some stockers once or twice a year??
People are free to do as they like. I'm just making sure they have a fair warning on an unfortunate reality.
What they do with that information is on them.
I never meant any harm in anyone, in fact, the opposite. If people want to resent me for that, then that's for them to sort out.
I understand, and this is a sad truth that you bring up. I am just trying to arm people with new information and they can do what they want with that information.
Not assuming, I just don’t understand the context of your “closed mouths don’t get fed” statement relative to “your wife is 🔥🔥🔥” when the statement practically means that if you don’t speak up, you never get what you want. Implying that you want this dudes wife. Just saying dude. Kind’ve creepy.
Spent many weekends camping and trout fishing at Deep Hole campground. Around the Suches area, maybe an hour from Clayton. It’s a nice, quite campground.
Chattooga is great. I fished there all the time when I was an undergrad at Clemson. Burrells Ford is a good easy access point. You can find larger fish but be prepared to walk pretty far from the well fished areas.

We will have to check that out! Thanks!

That's one of my fave spots here in WNC
Shhh. It's already too crowded..
Beat me to it! Live right down the mountain from Brevard and go there all the time.
The storm and flood they had a couple years ago really changed that river. Hatchery took a big hit. But change is good.
Do a camping trip in Northern Michigan, plenty of 16" and better browns. I like May & June.
I'm sure she would love that!
The au sable is a good one to look into also the manistee river
There’s a great book on Amazon that list all fishable, stocked waters in GA along with tips and parking directions. I bought it for fly fishing but it’s awesome for non native people who trout fish in GA (grew up in IL)
Can you please share the name of the book?
I'll have to look into and see it! Thanks!

What are some of the best wild waters? If any..

Why is this NSFW?
She’s fingerblasting a dead trout
Four in the trout, and Im not pulling out!
No idea if this is a saying, but I will allow it and use it. =)
For a more smoothly flowing rhyme try “Four in the trout and two in the snout.”
yes but will that get me arrested?
That’s why you ask about nose play beforehand.
Gotta ask for nose play. Got it. Thank you kind sir.
Always get permission first.
Hehe is that what you really call it?
Because I know some people are funny about dead fish.
You’re on a fishing subreddit so I assume no one here is funny about dead fish
Its reddit bro some people probably come here JUST to complain about the dead fish lmao
I came just because NSFW, was hoping it was something good
Only one trout girl on the internet today, I’ve heard enough from buddies to have not watched it lol.
I’m not familiar

I don’t fish for trout so I found it, and now I’m on my way outside to pour gasoline into my eyes.
Lol, if you can still read this, you need to pour more in.
Just a heads up this us terrible dish handling. Don't keep them out of the water long and handle them only wiry wet hands. Also since you've gutted them there's 0 chance they'll be ok once you release them.
Seen some big trout in the Chattooga. I also second the Davidson River in NC.

Awesome I appreciate it ill have to give it a try!
Thanks man! What's your favorite bug?
It's been over 10 years since I've fly fished. Couldn't tell you
If your wife also enjoys it, THIS looks like a great way to spend your anniversary… ;)
Congrats on the nice win in the wife lottery.
Thanks!

Yeah that sucks but it's a part of it. Maybe we will just get lucky one day! Thanks for the help again!
Download the app troutroutes and it’ll tell you everything you need to know
Ok thanks dude!
Find public access on the Soque, just SW towards Helen, and get you some monsters
No, there are no fish anywhere around ne ga, upstate sc, or western no. Don’t bother, stay home
We recommend you marry her again. And then again after 3 years and 7 months
Ok I will lol

sure looks like you've already had a weekend of fun to me my friend
Those Tasmanian folks ruined trout for me. They will never be the same.
Nice! Congratz!
Umm maybe take a drive and head to the self proclaimed “trout fishing capitol of the world” Gleason, WI
I know they're all dead but the one trout that looks like it's screaming for help is morbidly hilarious.
No advice, but you are damn lucky to have a woman that enjoys fishing.
Thanks!
Man I wish I knew. My favorite spots to catch rainbow trout is new Mexico, Red River to be exact. They're always huge!
Hit up Smith creek in Unicoi state park, and check out the Soque river in clarkesville, ga. I live here and it's some amazing waters.
Get a cabin near bryson city area. Cool little town with a breweries, ect. You can do a guided float trip down the Tuckasegee and then wade fish Cherokee, Nantahala, little Tennessee or the tuck.
Warwoman creek, shallow and fish around the bridges.
Thanks I appreciate it
Chicago? nah that shirts borrowed
Lol yes
was once from Chapel Hill meadowmont, you live in a beautiful part of the country

Are you fishing, or calling in an airstrike?
Fishing, but for that spot I would like the exact coordinates!

This is very true 👍definitely worth considering. It's sad that our American waters have been polluted so badly. It makes me horribly upset.

Almost everything is toxic and polluted to some degree. Be it the fruit and veg sprayed in pesticides to the meat we eat that ingests chemicals.
I understand, and this is a sad truth that you bring up. I am just trying to arm people with new information and they can do what they want with that information.
It is pretty sad. Short of growing plants and raising your own animals not a whole lot can be done to avoid it.
He couldn't care less about locations.....he's just flexing his wife/home/pickup....
No I'm really trying to find new spots to fish

Yezzir yezzir. I’m just saying what we’re thinking. Can’t shoot the messenger

Ya man of course. Idk why everyone else is so mad at me
I guess cause they just see you as horn dog but I ain't mad at you lol
Yeah I guess so lol appreciate’cha
Don’t be that guy.
You’re why closed mouths don’t get fed my friend. And I’m already that guy
What, you expect this dude’s wife to leave him for some creepy nerd on reddit? Lol.
Don’t you must assume a lot. Don’t expect her to leave him, I’m not creepy, nor a nerd. Just pointing out a fact. You must be quite stupid
FTP
I'm not sure what the means lol
It means fuck the patriots as far as I’m concerned.
Hahahah I see what you did there
