Could be a bit faster (likely get annoying after seeing it x times), but details like that are always welcome and can make a game that much more memorable.

Thank you for your feedback! Agree on that. Animation speed in this case seems to be the most annoying factor for many people.

Agree its really good, but maybe try for a faster animation like how you can flick them open

Yup! Animation speed seems to be the biggest problem for community. Now I can see it :) Appreciate your feedback!

Not only faster like a flick, but consider a “flicking motion” rather than just an opening fan.

Things I have found by googling "flicking motion" you would not believe. I have found a woman telling me how to knitt and a guy shaving someones neck :) Can you explain to me that "flicking motion"? Do you mean to make fan opening really fast and at the very last frames slow it drastically?

Your animation has both halves of the fan spreading from the middle at the same rate. If you watch someone flick open a fan, you’ll see that their hand grasps one of the two ends of the fan and flicks the other away to quickly snap open the fan.

Oh I get it now. You are right, it definitely might look and feel better using that flickering motion. Thank you!

Look for rakugo videos, I think. The performers do this movement fairly often, as fan is included into a set of traditional rakugo props. You can also look up movements, that characters inspired by rakugo or geisha do in Japanese media - on top of the fans, it might give you other ideas for GUI elements.

Game is called Talespinner and it is roguelike deckbuilding game set in Japanese mythology. Steam wishlist: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1725410/Talespinner/

Looks good. Wishlisted. Edit: I already had it on my wishlist :)

I agree, make it significantly faster. Aside from that, make the menu categories (graphics/sound/main menu) a contrasting color. Red over pink isn't a good idea.

I like it Really nice idea

I like the idea a lot but the sliders going against the folds looks messy to me. What if you had the fan open vertically (90 degrees from how it does now) so all of your options could follow the folds like the texts does here? You’d probably want to fan to extend past the screen edge, and you’d end up with an arrangement kind of like the menus in [Persona](https://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/c_fill,f_auto,fl_progressive,g_center,h_675,pg_1,q_80,w_1200/xcnhs0fx3usfexfnd6oc.jpg) or even [Trombone Champ](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSpL0V-tXayh2V7xxzOaxE-l7ryyul440LVQg&usqp=CAU): one side with a vertical list of menu items and the other with some combination of graphics and additional info Regardless, I definitely don’t think the fan is “too much.” It’s a really fun stylistic touch!

I love it! It should flip open quickly from one side though. These fans are used by flicking them open quickly with one hand (think like a flip knife would open).

I think it's really cool and stylish, just make it faster :)

i like it! hopefully this will be available on ios?

This is a dope idea.

Na make it have style. Even little details bring the game to life.

One quick note: I can see those sliders appear to be arcs. You'll want to make sure that if it's on PC and the user can use the mouse to adjust sliders, that they can reliably move them horizontally the way most users are accustomed. One of the most annoying things is when UI style/flourishes undermine the expected functionality of an interaction.

should open a lot faster and not use a linear motion. I would add a sound effect as well like a paper being folded quickly or something as such. Edit: If you check some Japanese scenes where gheisha's use fans for example, you'll see they are opened quite quickly with a brisk movement. Other than this the idea is absolutely great to use a fan. I don't find it's too much.

Nop, it’s awesomely beautiful!

Cool idea - animation should be faster, text/UI elements should probably be larger, and there definitely needs to be more contrast (particularly the "graphics/sound/main menu" really blend into the fan).
