Couple years back I stopped at my local ice cream stand after a day of driving, was leaving right around twilight. A group of teenagers was sitting at the table in front of me and I hear a girl ask the group why my car didn't have headlights. One dude was explaining they pop up and she was confused, like she couldn't grasp it and was asking questions. Obvs I had to take the moment to show off and got to watch the surprise on her face when she realized how they worked.
My pop-up story is that I was in the drive-through for a local burger spot in Austin (P. Terry's) and the dude out taking orders came up to my window "Hey dude, I love your Miata! Can you do me a favor? See that girl up there (he motions to a teenage girl running orders) - when I can her over can you do me a favor and flip your headlights up and down for her?" Weird but k, sure. Calls her over, she passes in front of my car and I flip the headlights up and down a few times and I get to witness the most adorable squeal meltdown of joy. Totally made my night. A couple minutes later once I had my order pulling out I just heard her talking to coworkers "look that's the car with the headlights!!"
Years ago I was rolling through my GFs apartment complex to go pick her up when I saw a little boy standing next to the road with his mom, when he saw the car he pointed at it like he couldn't believe what he was seeing. I hit the headlight button a few times and he shouted WHOAAAAAA and started jumping up and down. NAs are just the happiest cars on the road.
Also that ex-gf will DM me on Facebook now saying "is this you?" any time she sees a news story like this about a Miata driving in the snow 🤣
93 model year cars in North America definitely did NOT have passenger side air bags, and as far as I know cars for other markets around the world also lacked them. If your car has a passenger side air bag, and was originally sold in the USA or Canada, it isn’t a 93 model year. It might have a 1993 manufacture date, but it would be late 93 for the 94 model year. Distinguishing features of the 94-97 model year in North America are the passenger side air bag, seat belt tower brace behind the seats, and 1.8L BP engine instead of the 1.6L B6.
I love it I almost sold my 93 and I'm so glad I didn't it's just such a pure driving experience
Too bad yours died to rust mine is a Texas car and is going to stay that way so rust won't kill mine thankfully
It’s SHOCKING how many people don’t understand this very basic information. Same goes with putting a roll cage in your street car to then drive around with stock belts and no helmet or HANS device. I’ve even called out friends and other people for this type of shit at cars and coffee or whatever only to be looked at like an asshole
That's how I run mine and I honestly love it I daily drove it with a 5 point and roll bar for 3 years that way until I got a daily driver so that I can take it further down the track rabbit hole
You mean anti fun having devices and 30 year old bombs in a car that if you get into a serious enough accident to NEED an airbag, you are dead anyway?
I'll take my chances with not having em.
Honestly one of the best handling cars in the snow with the right tires
Also don't do it in the rust belt or you will learn the hard way, actually just don't buy a car from the rust belt in the first place
The wink mod is just the icing on top. You go, dude.
I HOWLED when they winked!
Legend
The pop ups lmao Ok this clip just confirmed it for me, I'm going to stop shopping for NBs and stick to NAs

Want abs and airbags?
Not all NBs have ABS. Ask me how I found that out.
6 hours and no one asked? How'd you find that out?
All 4 wheels locked up in the rain the first time I had to do an emergency stop. You learn reeeeal quick to pump rather than stand on them.
If I decide I don't wanna die in an accident, I'll just skip straight to the NC.
But wink wink tho 😢
My NA has ABS and a passenger airbag (previous owner installed another steering wheel)
did you put in the passenger airbag lol?
That doesn't rule out 94-97 NA.
You mean the best three years of Miata? :) I miss my 94.
93*
Does the 93 have a passenger airbag? Mine didn't, but there might be region differences.
No. Passenger air bag first became available for the 1994 model year in the North American market.
Mine does. Didn't realize others didn't.

JDM NAs never came with them. I guess I'll just die in a crash. 😂
No I intentionally bought a NA6 miata to get no aids and get that sweet dash without the airbag

the na does have abs tho
Oh I didn't know, I know some do come with airbags.
Yea it’s 1994 na’s and up which it became an option
Five point harness it is then

My NB1 doesn't have ABS
I've had three Miatas, all NA's. Obvs I love 'em too.
New cars with popup headlights are coming out or at least being developed
Now that's what I like to see a true Miata driver top down in winter and winking at the camera.
You call this a storm?
Florida ☕
As a Canadian that was my first thought. I can't even see anything coming down.
The thing Im most impressed with is how fucking fast his window went down lol
I don’t think he put the window down. That was just the glare changing as the camera passed and changed the angle
Yeah you’re right, watching it again now I can see a reflection coming after it looks like it goes down
Dammit I was thoroughly impressed
Yeah no way it goes down that fast. Mine takes about a minute
I’m buying lunch the next time this guys in town
That's the Ninja Turtle green Miata of my dreams
Why is that such a perfect description? Sheesh, that’s good. I’d want a yellow banner across the windshield.
Or a yellow bra?
Needs a faded yellow soft top
But it wouldn’t work if Mikey blinked….
Slow news day?
Exactly what I thought!

Love the passive aggressive alarmism by the news reporter
Being from Québec , this is not a storm 😆
I'm out in Minnesota so that stuff is nothing for us too
Thank you! I was thinking the same thing!
Southern ON is currently crying over 15cm of snow. Rolling my eyes right now.
I’m old. I remember when “pop ups” where cool…
They still are
Pop ups on cars, absolutely! Pop ups on my computer screen, no thanks… (which one do you think millennials know about?)

Miata_mochi
That's not just a convertible, that's a roadster!
As someone who has driven a NA in a snowstorm, I can confidently say that these cars are surprisingly good in the snow.
Miata. Is. Always. The. Answer.
This is amazing haha
i bought a convertible so i'll drive it wit hte top down. Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn.. top is always down lol
Tragic side effects of excessive green M&M consumption…
Look! It’s a Green M&Miata!
😂😂😂
It's not me, but it could've been me. If I'm dressed for cold weather, I'm going to use my layers, man!
I drive with the top down unless it will get me or the interior wet 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
"Shows off the convertible's pop ups headlights" I loved that 😂😂
Windows up. So close to counting.
**POP UP UP AND DOWN HEADLIGHTS!!!!**

What a fucking Chad
Hell, yeah. Put some aggressive snow tires on that rear-wheel drive, you can drive that in the snow.
