GOODTIME - Non-stop anxiety

zieminski

Also Uncut Gems, over two hours of the most intense cringe story ever.

DreamTheater3847

The Safdie brothers are great

rmo420

But I've never found Adam Sandler believable

upthewatwo

Upvote for answering the question: this movie is pure unpleasant emotions. I don't think you'll have a nice time at any point. I truly hate it.

bigwarmsoap

Threads- pretty realistic portrayal of what life would be like after nuclear fallout brutal film tbh. Funny games-family tormented in their home by 2 strangers gets pretty grim at points.

Wescuddles

sound amazing, added to the list. thanks!

This is a great reply, underrated movie and the acting was off the charts, this one will definitely pull on your heart strings

howfastyouweregoing

right? It’s kind of a mission of mine to help it not slip through the cracks, but I don’t know if I’ll ever watch it again…

TheGreatOne1468

To me that may be netflix number one produced movie, I don’t think I can watch it again either, great movie but a little to visceral for a second watch

TheIMaster64

Hereditary made me very uncomfortable. Great movie though.

Wescuddles

seen it! absolutely amazing film. first time i watched it i cried i was so terrified. perfect 👌

PocketFoodAficionado

"Sound of Metal" is a brutally sad and moving story about a heavy metal/punk drummer losing his hearing and covers how his life changes due to it. 10/10, it was my movie of the year in 2020.

starocoffee

I watched Black Bear last night which really archives what you're looking for in part 1 but I felt part 2 of the film was garbage that tried and failed to be like Mother! (Which is also a good rec for what you want)

Plansky82

Shame (2011) directed by Steve McQueen starring Michael Fassbender…

Man, I just watched “Young Adult”(2011) with Charlize Theron on HBO the other day. It was worth the watch but man, it’s written by Diablo Cody (Juno) and that girl can write awkward situations like no one else.

You mentioned a couple Lars Von Trier movies, so if you haven't seen Breaking the Waves or Nymphomaniac I would add those to your list. In a different tone from those entirely, Brokeback Mountain and A Brief Encounter get me every time. Ikiru is also really beautiful and emotional, and Grave of the Fireflies is the purest emotional sucker punch of a film.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer Gozu I only made it 10 minutes into The Greasy Strangler. It’s supposedly a comedy but I didn’t want to watch anymore because it was so strange.
