Seriously, the script was *so bad*. I feel like because of that glaring and very basal issue at the root of the film, no amount of better budgeting or w/e would have done much to make the film any better.
I was curious as to who wrote the actual script, so I looked it up. Apparently, it was written by James in collaboration with someone named [Kevin Finn](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm3075905/), also the film's director, whose IMDB indicates a history of reality TV and some short films, mostly.
So there *was* someone involved with legit industry experience, at least to some extent. That said, the script was still pretty glaringly *bad*. Maybe hiring a dude who was a story producer for shit like Duck Dynasty and The Biggest Loser wasn't the best move.
> Maybe hiring a dude who was a story producer for shit like Duck Dynasty and The Biggest Loser wasn't the best move.
Kevin was friends with James in high school which was why he got the job
Yeah the script needed to be just entirely rewritten I feel like the movie doesn’t appeal to avgn fans or to a general audience it’s just kind of this weird movie no one asked for
It’s insanely hard to make anything so I also give him kudos. I think the big problem everyone has is just that the solution was so simple, just make a longer Avgn episode. That’s all it should have been.
Not having time to watch the movie I can only tell you what I love about the poster.
I love that they got Dr. Evil, Sonya Blade, Female Garth, Homeless Rick Grimes, Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal, zombies, soldiers and Cooper himself to watch Bimmy run to the bathroom after shitting himself!
I kinda liked how over the top the nerds boss was , the power pad sex innuendo, the practical effects on the buildings were pretty cool. That’s about it
The first like 2-3 minutes when it a montage of a bunch of AVGN fans is the best part of the movie. You see actual excitement from the fans and you may not know this, but the Rocky movies also used Montages in them. Another way James is just like Sly
Honestly, I saw it when it first came out and couldn't even finish it because it was so silly and boring. I don't recall anything from what I have seen
Actually as terrible as it is, got a great sleep out of it. Something about the sunny neighborhood and cheesy acting made me feel strangely warm and fuzzy 😭 like a lullaby, I woke up unaware I even slept through it LOL
Would watch again for sleeping purposes 💅🏼
Pfft. You call *that* a challenge? I got my top 5 favorite parts of the AVGN movie right here:
5. The time when Copper was called the N-word by that one bald guy I forgot the name of (@36:50)
4. Bimmy recreating 9/11 on Mount Fuji
3. 1:54:50
2. The weird AVGN fan circlejerk at the beginning of the movie (should’ve invited Game Dude)
1. When it ended
I enjoyed the understatement of Cooper falling out of his window. I expected a more exaggerated reaction, and it was funnier because of how quickly they moved on.
I liked the ET review and it was a great end for the movie that the so awaited review was that it was not a bad game for the time. I don't know if it's on purpose but the anticlimatic way of ending it is hilarious.
I respect the effort and passion that went into it, I wish it wasn't done with other people's money, if it wasn't it probably would have been better, but I have no sympathy for them.
It's also a great learning experience and cautionary tale for others.
The joke where AVGN is playing the MMO with 8 bit graphics, but Cooper the almighty playing with modern graphics, was pretty funny. Honestly, the Nostalgia Critic hit on a ton of problems in his review (even it if was a joke for the DVD release).
The only thing I DON’T like about this movie (besides the overall odd concept) is the part where it turns into some kind of Mario thing and he is jumping around in a hallway or something. Besides that, this is a true outsider masterpiece. Even then, you could say the Mario-type scene is an homage to After Effects.
The fact that he followed through on making it. The thing he ended up making wasn’t great at all, but it’s more dedication and effort than he shows nowadays.
Death Mwauthzyx, both because I genuinely get a campy level of fun out of seeing a dude capering around in a cheesy monster costume and also the hilarity of the fact that something that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars had the monster be something that looked like some kids in their backyard made it
It's been a loooooong time since I watched it. (I might try to watch it again today, in fact.) But I would say... I think I remember a few jokes being funny. When AVGN and the girl are playing on the power pad... uhh... Maybe something else. I thought the girl was really pretty. I don't remember much else from the movie. I remember it being too long.
The part at the beginning when the crowd of people start chanting “ET! ET! ET!” In the video game store and then breakout in a conga line was unironically funny
The long-awaited ET review wasn't bad. It was uploaded as a separate video. Watching it without having to watch the rest of the movie makes for a good review.
The practical effects, the charm, the references to other films, the jokes, the review at the end, the fact that he crowd funded the whole film and delivered on his promises which many people don’t, it had great choreography, sound editing and mixing was good, editing was top notch….
I’m new so why do people hate avgn? He’s literally the most inoffensive content creator and he puts in more effort than most video game reviewers so I honestly don’t understand!
The Blu-ray extras has bits on how they filmed certain scenes (like destroying a miniature city) and here's how colour grading went - it's fascinating and wayyyyy more interesting than the final product. If u haven't seen them they're on YouTube
There's a couple things about it I like: It eventually ends, and I never have to see it ever again
Ironically, the nerd became the very thing he swore to destroy.
The theme song was definitely cool.
that’s my vote too. Drawing a blank on anything else good about it.
I don’t remember the theme song
Just looked it up it’s pretty amazing ngl
Its Kyle Justin theme remixed by Bear Mcreary
Yeah, Bear took what is a pretty pedestrian song and made it sound pretty epic
I mean, the redhead was pretty cute. Does that count?
I think it does. That's also my favorite part of the movie. The pretty redhead girl whose name i can't even remember. That's it, that's the best part.
And who never acted again?
Bimmy Tarantino didn't get any feet shots
It had a good premise… they just butchered it with writing an awful, awful script.
You should've directed the movie OJ. Show the world what you're made of, you didn't even do anything wrong!
I could have taken a stab at it
A stabbing of garbage I’d say
He didn't Intendo kill them.
If Bimmy’s hat doesn’t fit, you must acquit!
A good premise, but they butchered it by actually making it
Seriously, the script was *so bad*. Oh, gotcha. Well that would explain it. Perhaps, in that case, they should have brought someone else in instead, idk.
Yeah the script needed to be just entirely rewritten I feel like the movie doesn’t appeal to avgn fans or to a general audience it’s just kind of this weird movie no one asked for
not seeing it was pretty great
Yeah I’m kind of surprised at just how many people have seen this. I’ve seen clips and know I can’t sit through that amount of douche chills.
Well it came out like a decade ago. We were still huge Nerd fans, we didn’t yet know Bimmy.
I like that he wanted to make it and so he did.
True he put the work in gotta give him credit for that
Its not a bad point. He actually did it.
Yeah, it may not be good. At all. But he had a dream of making a theatrical film and he went out and did it. That counts for something.

Agreed. It’s fucking hard to do something like that. So congrats to him. Shame it sucked but oh well.
It taught Bimmy how filming worked, he couldn't even say "I wanted to do that, but sponsors didn't let me" he had full creative control.
Taught*
\*taint
Cooper humping tables
I have to confess: I tried to watch this on three different occasions, but couldn't continue past 8 or 9 minute mark. So I haven't watched it...
Then why are you commenting on a potential positive post? Seems like a waste of your time
Who the fuck are you supposed to be, mayor of avgn fanboi town? Go to r/thecinemassacre
Unfollow us, thanks!
Bear McCreary's score
Yeah he’s an awesome composer
mid
Cooper.
Big Cooper fan btw!
Did nostalgia critic scream when he had his cameo? I'd say that
I both love and hate that you can *hear* when Nostalgia Critic has a cameo in something.
the NC episode on it was dece
Not having time to watch the movie I can only tell you what I love about the poster. I love that they got Dr. Evil, Sonya Blade, Female Garth, Homeless Rick Grimes, Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal, zombies, soldiers and Cooper himself to watch Bimmy run to the bathroom after shitting himself!

No.
The lack of slobs
The credits.
His two closest friends in a sad little cameo....yeeeeaaahh.
Lol that scene was so depressing Mike looked so dead inside wish they had actually roles or at least a more meaningful cameo in the film
Kyle Justin was there.
It's interesting that Kevin's name is first in the Writer/Director's credits. lol

They’re both super swole too!
Erin for sure
I sort of liked the beginning with the video game store because it teased giving us a glimpse into the Nerd's fictional world.
The scene with the Nerd talking with the manager guy in the back office actually felt like a real movie for a split second
Yeah that’s probably my favorite scene in the entire movie
That’s a good point honestly if it was more centered around that I think it would have been a lot better
I liked when it was over.
tbh, I have only ever seen like 10 minutes worth of clips of this movie. I should probably watch it just for the meme's.
Goodluck I could only flick through it
Honestly, I saw it when it first came out and couldn't even finish it because it was so silly and boring. I don't recall anything from what I have seen
I thought the Nerd Girl looked like Garth from Wayne's World and that made me laugh a couple times.
It had no sequels
😂😂 no sequels so far
I was fine with it until they threw in the whole deathmothstix thing. WTF was that crap?
Yeah that was “oh btw here’s some weird shit I believe” (5 mins later) here’s the weird shit for real!
The girl is pretty cute.
I liked the special features on the blu-ray, can that count? I just like supplemental filmmaking material for stuff like this.
Actually as terrible as it is, got a great sleep out of it. Something about the sunny neighborhood and cheesy acting made me feel strangely warm and fuzzy 😭 like a lullaby, I woke up unaware I even slept through it LOL Would watch again for sleeping purposes 💅🏼
That’s a great perspective on it thanks for sharing
The part where he talks about being at the bottom of the totem pole, the balls on the dick.
Take a wild guess
The version of it I made in mind mind before watching it
Pfft. You call *that* a challenge? I got my top 5 favorite parts of the AVGN movie right here: 5. The time when Copper was called the N-word by that one bald guy I forgot the name of (@36:50) 4. Bimmy recreating 9/11 on Mount Fuji 3. 1:54:50 2. The weird AVGN fan circlejerk at the beginning of the movie (should’ve invited Game Dude) 1. When it ended
I enjoyed the understatement of Cooper falling out of his window. I expected a more exaggerated reaction, and it was funnier because of how quickly they moved on.
I love cooper!!
I liked the scene in the desert when James used CGI to open his mouth extra wide for a surprise reaction shot
I hate to admit it, but the "Go for the gun" scene in the beginning genuinely made me laugh. Best scene in the entire film
I liked the ET review and it was a great end for the movie that the so awaited review was that it was not a bad game for the time. I don't know if it's on purpose but the anticlimatic way of ending it is hilarious.
The was my least favorite part -- that he didn't thrash ET because it WAS a horrible game even for the time!! I know because I got it for Xmas lol
I respect the effort and passion that went into it, I wish it wasn't done with other people's money, if it wasn't it probably would have been better, but I have no sympathy for them. It's also a great learning experience and cautionary tale for others.

doug walker cameo
Guitar Guy

The power pad fucking fakeout was aiiight.
Honestly, I liked the film as a whole, but if I had to pick specifics, either the orchestral avgn theme or the e.t. review the film built up to
It was a decent first draft blue sky script that needed a few more rewrites and edits.
For the budget that it was made for, the practical effects are really good cause the effects artists put a lot of work into the film for minimum money
Yeah. Not watching it. And don't plan to do it.
(Cooper chant starts)
i like the Death Mwauthyx concept art Mike drew
ZERO OF EM! I LIKED ZERO OF EM!
I like the little practical jet models that bimmy used in some shots
The actual reeview at the end was cool
Eddie Pepitone.
do you want us to suffer? how are we suppose to do that??
Soundtrack kind of bangs in places. Some of the special effects look charming, like the city destruction stuff.
This movie poster is so dumb, it looks like he's screaming because he's being chased by thumbelina in a van
And the face looked wrong then and it looks wrong now
Is that Erin on the poster? I assume she shows her feet at some point and that's always a plus.
The fact that he followed through on making it. The thing he ended up making wasn’t great at all, but it’s more dedication and effort than he shows nowadays.
I liked it when it ended
The redhead was cute.
Soundtrack was pretty good.
I liked that he actually made it, if that counts?
There were a couple (like 3 max) jokes that I actually laughed at. And I thought Sergeant McButters was hot.
I liked one scene with that military guy. That's all.
It taught me the virtue of humility, by showing how arrogant and far removed from reality that early fame can make you.
It started the "It's our boy Cooper" memes
That I could stop it at any time
The credits
GO FOR THE GUN
I liked the trailer.
I mean, it'¡s been years since I watched it, but I remember it being a fun watch. Shit movie, but it wasn't boring.
Death Mwauthzyx, both because I genuinely get a campy level of fun out of seeing a dude capering around in a cheesy monster costume and also the hilarity of the fact that something that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars had the monster be something that looked like some kids in their backyard made it

The red head was kinda cute
The Nerd dressing up as an alien with a "if you want something done do it yourself" attitude. 😂 Apart from that the blonde woman was nice to look at.
I thought using a toy car at one point instead of CGI was kinda charming.
I liked the robots
The part at the beginning when the crowd of people start chanting “ET! ET! ET!” In the video game store and then breakout in a conga line was unironically funny
The long-awaited ET review wasn't bad. It was uploaded as a separate video. Watching it without having to watch the rest of the movie makes for a good review.

I thought the redhead was cute. Probably only reason I didn’t turn it off after 10 minutes.
I like never seeing it
While the scene where James enters that bar like a A-list Hollywood star was pretty egregious, the Rolling Rock joke got a faint chuckle out of me.
“Snacks”
When it finished
I thought that both the redhead and McButters were pretty cute
The Nerd Van because it’s a mopar.
The soundtrack. Nerds Before Birds sounded like a legit Judas Priest song.
The soundtrack by Bear McCreary was good.
