John's Cameras and Records
213 Draper Road NW, Blacksburg VA 24060
https://johnscameraandrecords.com/
This shop was a full-service photo supply, studio and one-hour lab since 1976, but 10 years ago, as film photography dwindled away, it started selling records.
They only sell used LPs, buying local collections, so it's mostly classic rock/pop and pre-2000 stuff, with a decent Classical section and lots of $2 and $5 bins. They also sell stereo equipment and they're still a photo lab, which is a booming business again somehow.
It's an odd hole-in-the-wall place with a kinda Sanford and Son vibe. Part junk store, part antique camera museum. Nothing fancy but it's probably the coolest shop in little old Blacksburg.
If you're looking for a bunch of rare vintage jazz, any kind of hip hop, or new releases, you probably won't find it here. But the prices are good and if you happen to be into photography also, you'll really love it.

Very nice folks. large selection of pop/rock and jazz. The staff is super friendly and the prices are pretty low. I've found lots of classics in great condition for less than $8. From what I've seen they keep a high standard.
I've got three for Grand Rapids, Michigan:

My go-to shop. Wide selection of new and used vinyl, with competitive prices for new vinyl. Herm, the owner, is a great guy, always willing to help find an album or order it if possible. Also Herm is a nice person to talk with. Knows his stuff and is just a genuine dude and isn't looking to just make a sale. I've had great experience with other employees as well, but I've interacted mostly with Herm. Store is well organized and easy to navigate. I've definitely noticed their new vinyl selection has expanded over the years, and the used selection is still quite substantial (A few years ago, Herm said they had 20,000 new and 10,000 used in [this article](https://revuewm.com/features/cover-stories/item/2760-he-s-a-survivor-vertigo-music-s-herm-baker-wins-the-fight))

I need to spend more time here. Only been in there two times thus far. Front room has all of your "normal" 12" new and used, but the back rooms are what sets this shop apart from the others in the area. There is a whole room dedicated to just to 45s, featuring some more new stuff, but mostly a ton of used singles. I could spend a day just going through the 45s (there are over 100,000 45s back there according to their Facebook). The other back room is what I've seen called "the room of lost formats" ([Source](https://www.therapidian.org/corner-record-shop-sticks-its-guns)) which has all types of stuff including 78s and laser disks. Also has a ton of 12" which I would consider in the "other" genres, such as best radio broadcasts of sports leagues. It's a HUGE room that also has an open space with a stage for bands. I've only had a chance to scan through that room quickly, and I didn't even know it was back there the first time I stopped in. They also sell vintage equipment and do repair. Again, I need to spend more time here.
**Dodds Record Shop**
808 Bridge St NW,
Grand Rapids, Michigan 49504
[Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/DoddsRecordShop/) & [Website](http://reverendcharlesprest.wixsite.com/doddsrecordstore)
Proclaimed as Michigan's oldest record shop. This place can be a little chaotic, and as a result, a little intimidating, but it's awesome. Up until a handful of years ago, it had been in the same location since 1981, but moved in more recent years after being acquired by a new owner. Old location was packed, with shelves reaching above my head. The new location is a little easier to actually flip through the albums, though it may be a little more chaotic. There are two rooms on the main floor that are relatively organized, though still feeling like things are bursting at the seams. The basement is the real treasure. Less organized than the main floor, it's a dark, dingy basement with records EVERYWHERE. On the floor, on shelves, in boxes holding up the shelves, in boxes behind those boxes, interspersed amongst Playboy and Penthouse magazines. Everywhere. There are some real gems to be found there. I even found some recordings from a local college choir from the 50s and 60s! Rev. Charles, the current owner to took over from Mr. Gerry Dodds a few years back, is a great dude with a true passion for the store and music. When he took over the store, his intent was to make is a sort-of museum as well as just a store, and has added parts of music history as well as pieces from his own life in music. He definitely is the type of person that you could talk to for hours, and he seems to have a good grasp of his inventory, so maybe it's a bit more organized chaos than I was originally giving him credit for. It's a cool place. The hours are kinda random, but Rev Charles will post updates on Facebook and the website about upcoming days and hours that he'll be officially open, and he also has his own personal cell phone number posted so you can call him and stop by if he happens to be in the shop when he's not officially open. [Here's an article](http://www.rapidgrowthmedia.com/features/011614doddsrecords.aspx) about his acquisition of the shop and his hopes for the future (this was written when he was at the old location, and so the pictures are from there, and some of his hopes have changed with the location)
Red Eye Records - 143 York St, Sydney NSW 2000, Australia
I primarily browse the hip hop section, of which they have a great selection of artists. They have a variety of other genres and products such as turntables, shirts, merch and miscellaneous record gear.
This is the only record store I know of near me and I've been to and bought from them many times :)

Greville Records.
Located at: 152 Greville St, Prahran VIC 3181
Small-Medium sized store on Greville St. Prahran - Just off Chapel St. Good mix of new and used records - Lot's of Proto-Punk, Punk, New Wave, Post-Punk, Grunge. Lot's of Rock n' Roll. Staff are always chill and know their music!
Always a good time at Greville.
Protean Books & Records .
836 Leadenhall St, Baltimore, MD 21230
https://www.facebook.com/ProteanBooks/
Big store in a weird area wedged in between Federal Hill and Camden Yards. Lots of stock, almost all used but they do have a small "New Releases" rack. Good variety of Blues, Soul, and Rock although their definition of "Rock" may not be the as yours.
There's a lot of other things in the store too like books, toys, retro games, random ephemera. When I come here with my kids they can go get distracted by all the other stuff and leave me alone to thumb through the Jazz A-K rack.
You can be rewarded for digging. I've found some random gems that were unmarked and ended up getting a good deal on them just by expressing interest.
Owners very nice and happy to chat.
End of an Ear, located at 4304 Clawson Rd, Austin, TX 78704
Fantastic local store with tons of both new and used records of most genres. Focuses on indie rock throughout the decades alongside smaller sections of a wide variety of genres: prog/psych rock, punk, metal, goth and darkwave (my personal favorite), and a large experimental section. Also hosts a large 7" collection. Finally, there is a decent sized rarity wall towards the back that, though is expensive, usually hosts unique finds that I've never seen in the wild. Personal favorite rarities that I've found through this store include Joy Division's Closer and UK 1st Pressing of Transmission, New Order's Blue Monday, a ton of Bauhaus, and US 1st Press of The Smiths' Meat is Murder.
The staff is friendly and happy to answer questions and assist with finding new music. They help with pre-orders and ordering in vinyl that the store currently doesn't stock. 3 listening stations scattered across the store allow for easy listening to test out records before purchase.
Finally, separate of vinyl, there is a good sized CD and Cassette section as well as unique books and movies on bands the store carries. One can also purchase posters from a poster bin.
End of an Ear is my favorite record store in the Austin area. Though Waterloo records is more famous and renowned in the Austin area due to its location and ability to bring in musicians across the country, End of an Ear remains my favorite for its diverse musical catalog at a fantastic price. Come to End of an Ear for a great Austin record shopping experience.
^(1217 Mills Ave N, Orlando, Florida 32803. "REMIX Records")
^(Nice local record store stocking mostly used records and CDs. A couple different genres included, from rock, indie, heavy, and dance/club music. A small jazz and soundtracks section is present as well. The stuff I bought from there ranged from Paul McCartney and Wings, Led Zeppelin, Genesis, Emerson Lake and Palmer, and Jethro Tull. Staff is friendly and happy to help with whatever you need, and they have a listening station for you to listen to used albums before you buy them.)
^(They also have DJs stop by every now and then to perform on site. I haven't gone to any of these events but I think it's a cool idea.)
Square Cat Vinyl
1054 Virginia Ave
Indianapolis, IN 46203
Small hole-in-the-wall style store in Fountain Square. Not the largest selection of vinyl, but lots of new and exclusive local recordings along with some rare/valuable finds displayed for sale in addition to a healthy enough assortment of used records. Often has live music of some variety or another, and has a bar stocked with coffee and beer. Highly recommended in addition to Indy CD and Vinyl (which seems to already be listed)
The Record Lounge
1132 South Washington
Lansing MI 48910
For those of you familiar with the mammoth Flat Black and Circular in East Lansing, the Record Lounge was their small competition down the road. I’m they moved out to REO Town in Lansing a year or so ago after a property issue. On a side note, REO Town is a wonderful part of town by itself and adds to the charm.
There were a couple of reasons that The Record Lounge was able to exist near FBC. First, the service is actually friendly, which is sometimes rare in a record store. I had an issue a couple of years ago, and the owner immediately took care of it (and sold me a record at cost).
The selection overall is eclectic. One of my favorite aspects of the store is that they post new arrivals every few days on their Facebook page, and keep them in one area for easy access. I would also mention that they have a pretty impressive metal section.
Compared to FBC down the road, which is one of the larger stores I’ve been to, The Record Lounge is tiny. One downside is that everything is pretty jammed together and if there are several people in the store, it can be a little hard to get around. That being said, unless I would pick The Record Lounge every day over FBC.
Trax on Wax, 709 Frederick Rd, Catonsville, MD 21228
Tightly packed with mostly classic rock and pop music. Small jazz section with some jems and a good amount of new reissues.
The Archive, 8344 Main St, Ellicott City, MD 21043
A fantastic record store that carries almost everything. Specializes in 70s-00s rock with a great selection of noise rock to classic rock. Also has an extensive amount of soundtracks in the back.
I have two recommendations:
The first is Stardust Records and Collectibles - 106 S Main St, Thiensville, WI 53092
The owner there is a great guy and any time i get up in the area i make sure to stop. They have two floors of record bins along with some great merch. They sell everything from Classical to Rock to Soundtracks. Everything is priced a little high but i've never seen anything in bad condition. Plus when you get to the register, if you are paying in cash, the guy will cut you a deal. For example, I took a NM copy of Rumors (marked at $20) plus two other dollar bin dean martin albums and ended up paying $10.
The second is Harbor PC Music - 3208 Washington Ave, Racine, WI 53405
The guy running the place was very knowledgeable and asked what i was looking for, helped a little but was very hands off which is a nice change of pace compared to a few other stores i have been to. Everything was priced pretty reasonably as well.
Going Underground Records 1312 19th St, Bakersfield, CA 93301. Open from 11am-6pm Monday through Sunday. The store has a wide variety spanning many genres, including new and used vinyl. They also sell turntables. The owner is very knowledgeable and friendly, and he always plays awesome music. Be sure to stop by here if you're in town!
The Vinyl Countdown
724B King St. Charleston, SC 29403
Open 11-6 Tues-Sun
Has a steady inventory of Rock, Jazz, R&B, and Metal as well as collectables and audio equipment. Also has very good bargains on vinyl with a lot of discounts and sales as well as cheap CDs and Cassettes.
The only independent vinyl shop in the downtown Charleston area, the store has been open for just over 2 years and the staff is very friendly and supportive.
Not sure how many UK lurkers there are here, but here's one of my faves from the North West:
**X-Records**
44 Bridge Street, Bolton, BL1 2EG
Hands down the most stocked store in Greater Manchester. Staff are excellent, big into the punk scene but equally indie, northern soul, ska (and everything else!) Massive selection of second hand records as well as new releases. One of the most impressive CD collections I've seen as well, they also do posters, memorabilia, shirts, record cases, amps. You name it. Love this place!
Repo Records
3325 Commonwealth Ave, Charlotte, NC 28205
Pretty og store; been around since the 70's and normally hold a nice stack of rare beatle, bowie and punk records. Also they have pretty good equipment at nice prices.
Got a great one since you don't have any in WV
Sullivan's Records
1558-A Washington St E
Charleston, WV 25311
I've been a regular for a couple years and they have a good mixture of used and new vinyl with rock, country, jazz, etc.
They also sell books and DVDs but they keep records as their main focus.
Spin Me Round Records
1200 US-22 Phillipsburg, NJ 08865
(In Phillipsburg Mall)
Both used & new records, plus used 7"s, cassettes, CDs, and books. Something in most every genre, but leans heavily toward post 1970 rock. They have a lot of 12" vinyl and its well worth your time to look through both the upper and lower bins. Things are mostly alphabetized. Quality of used items tends to be solid and they have a mix of both common and rare items. If you're looking to fill out a back catalog of albums released from the 70s to the 90s, this would be a good place to start and not destroy your budget. New items are priced at parity with other sellers. The staff is nice to interact with, willing to help. and not snobby in the least. A great example of a modern local record store.
Rocket Number Nine
50 North Front Street Kingston NY 12401
Mostly used records although they do stock some new ones and some CD's. They also have vintage gear in the back that occasionally is on sale. Lots of rock, some soundtracks, soul and the like. The jazz section is always particularly well stocked. Real friendly owner and sales clerk.
Jerk Dog Records
1119 12th St W, Bradenton, FL 34205
Small records store located in the Arts district. Check website/facebook for hours, currently Wed-Saturday (5pm - 8pm weekdays, 12:30-5PM Saturday). Well priced selection of used music with a good selection of $1-$5 records. Mostly rock/punk/metal other genres can be found but not in great supply. Occasional live shows on weekends. Run by a really great guy Doug who is an extremely nice and ever helpful. Store is mostly records.
Moondance Vintage Clothing
202 Mallory Street, Saint Simons Island, Georgia 31522
Mostly classic rock/old pop/soul, as name implies, is a vintage store, mostly used records and older stuff. Majority is 8$ each or 3 for 20$, but we do have an invidually-priced section. Got lotta expensive Beatles shit too behind the counter (where most of the pricy stuff is, dont forget to ask if looking for something specific). We have CDs too, which are more current. Currently at work there right now(least for 10 more minutes lol), stop by and say hi!
**Piranha Records**
1208 N Interstate 35 Unit E, Round Rock, TX 78681
All genres are represented here, fantastically organized used section. Some great rarities and oddities and the staff very helpful.
Mile Long Records
350 W. Front Street, Wheaton, IL 60187
Sells tons of vintage vinyl in fantastic condition, new vinyl put out every Friday, a smaller CD selection and an area for just 45rpm records. Typically has a lot of jazz, rock, and pop albums. The owner, Mike, is super down to earth and will special order pretty much anything you want through their Facebook page. Located in the heart of downtown Wheaton!
Ernie November 217 W Lincolnway, Cheyenne, WY 82001
Carries all genres in CD, Record, and cassette tape, new and used, but probably best known locally for being able to get damn near any metal album you want. If they don't have it, they can order it. 10 bucks gets you 10% off for life.
Sorry for the delay, I was waiting to hear back from the owner. So it's basically a membership that gets you 10% off everything store wide: music (used and new), shirts, incense, movies, etc. The only exception is anything that is on clearance.
Dave's Records
2604 North Clark Street
Chicago, IL 60614
carry all speeds (33,45,even 78) all formats (7”, 10”, 12” single, EP , LP) all styles (rock, jazz, soul, funk, hip hop, house, disco, reggae, blues, folk, country, vocal, soundtracks, showtunes, classical, indie/alternative and every sub-genre you can imagine). If it’s on vinyl, it’s here now or it’s passed through in to someone’s crate. On any given day, there are at least 40,000 titles to choose from.

Ralph’s Records ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
3322 82nd St, Lubbock, TX 79423
Pretty awesome place great quality a little pricey sometimes but in my eyes well worth it in the long run. And if its a new vinyl and they dont have it they can order it. Also sells near by convert tickets and old video games, comic books. Its almost nerd heaven in there. They ordered a star wars hologram vinyl when i asked about it. Went back two weeks later and found it and picked it up 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Great idea
Josey Records
1020 S Rockford Ave
Tulsa, OK 74120
Josey stocks new and used records, CDs, tapes, and accessories. Most records fall into the rock category, they also have punk, metal, soul, intl, and others. While this is sort of a chain store, it has locals running and stocking it, Occasional in-store performances.

Volume https://volumehillsborough.com/ 226 S Churton St, Hillsborough, NC 27278 Variety of only used stock; all genres. Some gems. Fair pricing. Small shop but well run with nice casual atmosphere.
Beatdisc Records, 11/181 Church Street, Parramatta, NSW 2150. website: http://beatdisc.com.au/ These guys are legends of the community. Have a nice range of genres and regularly restocked. You are able to not only buy records but cassettes and CDs as well They are also more than happy to order particular records in for you if necessary. They carry stock of Audio Technica Turntables and accessories as well as cleaning equipment. Friday Nights they also do live music. Shop is also clean and organised into genres that make it easy to find what you are looking for. They are the only record store I will buy from now /u/BtsBaboonFarm
I love when record stores are organized by Genre & not just alphabetically. I organize my home collection by genre
Haha bit of a necro but ill tell you this. I still go to this store in fact picked up three records from them yesterday
Basement Records 5009 Chapman Hwy, Knoxville, TN 37920 Very nice folks. large selection of pop/rock and jazz. The staff is super friendly and the prices are pretty low. I've found lots of classics in great condition for less than $8. From what I've seen they keep a high standard.
I've got three for Grand Rapids, Michigan: **Vertigo Music** 129 Division Ave S, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49503 [Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/Vertigo-Music-107651117758/) & [Website](http://www.vertigomusiconline.com/) My go-to shop. I've definitely noticed their new vinyl selection has expanded over the years, and the used selection is still quite substantial (A few years ago, Herm said they had 20,000 new and 10,000 used in [this article](https://revuewm.com/features/cover-stories/item/2760-he-s-a-survivor-vertigo-music-s-herm-baker-wins-the-fight)) **Corner Record Shop** 3562 Chicago Dr SW, Grandville, Michigan 49418 [Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/cornerrecordshop/?ref=br_rs) I need to spend more time here. **Dodds Record Shop** 808 Bridge St NW, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49504 [Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/DoddsRecordShop/) & [Website](http://reverendcharlesprest.wixsite.com/doddsrecordstore) Proclaimed as Michigan's oldest record shop.
Red Eye Records - 143 York St, Sydney NSW 2000, Australia I primarily browse the hip hop section, of which they have a great selection of artists. They have a variety of other genres and products such as turntables, shirts, merch and miscellaneous record gear. This is the only record store I know of near me and I've been to and bought from them many times :) /u/BTsBaboonFarm
Greville Records. Located at: 152 Greville St, Prahran VIC 3181 Small-Medium sized store on Greville St.
836 Leadenhall St, Baltimore, MD 21230 https://www.facebook.com/ProteanBooks/ Big store in a weird area wedged in between Federal Hill and Camden Yards.

End of an Ear, located at 4304 Clawson Rd, Austin, TX 78704 Fantastic local store with tons of both new and used records of most genres.
Added, thanks for all of the detail!
^(1217 Mills Ave N, Orlando, Florida 32803. "REMIX Records") ^(Nice local record store stocking mostly used records and CDs. Staff is friendly and happy to help with whatever you need, and they have a listening station for you to listen to used albums before you buy them.) ^(They also have DJs stop by every now and then to perform on site. I haven't gone to any of these events but I think it's a cool idea.)
Added, thanks!
^(Cool beans)
Square Cat Vinyl 1054 Virginia Ave Indianapolis, IN 46203 Small hole-in-the-wall style store in Fountain Square.

The Record Lounge 1132 South Washington Lansing MI 48910 For those of you familiar with the mammoth Flat Black and Circular in East Lansing, the Record Lounge was their small competition down the road.
Added, thanks for the great information! :)
Trax on Wax, 709 Frederick Rd, Catonsville, MD 21228 Tightly packed with mostly classic rock and pop music. Small jazz section with some jems and a good amount of new reissues.
The Archive, 8344 Main St, Ellicott City, MD 21043 A fantastic record store that carries almost everything. Specializes in 70s-00s rock with a great selection of noise rock to classic rock. Also has an extensive amount of soundtracks in the back.
Added, thanks!
I have two recommendations: The first is Stardust Records and Collectibles - 106 S Main St, Thiensville, WI 53092 The owner there is a great guy and any time i get up in the area i make sure to stop. The second is Harbor PC Music - 3208 Washington Ave, Racine, WI 53405 The guy running the place was very knowledgeable and asked what i was looking for, helped a little but was very hands off which is a nice change of pace compared to a few other stores i have been to. Everything was priced pretty reasonably as well.
Added both, thanks!

The Vinyl Countdown 724B King St. Charleston, SC 29403 Open 11-6 Tues-Sun Has a steady inventory of Rock, Jazz, R&B, and Metal as well as collectables and audio equipment. Also has very good bargains on vinyl with a lot of discounts and sales as well as cheap CDs and Cassettes. The only independent vinyl shop in the downtown Charleston area, the store has been open for just over 2 years and the staff is very friendly and supportive.

Not sure how many UK lurkers there are here, but here's one of my faves from the North West: **X-Records** 44 Bridge Street, Bolton, BL1 2EG Hands down the most stocked store in Greater Manchester.
Added, thanks!
Repo Records 3325 Commonwealth Ave, Charlotte, NC 28205 Pretty og store; been around since the 70's and normally hold a nice stack of rare beatle, bowie and punk records. Also they have pretty good equipment at nice prices.
Love me some Repo when I head up to CLT.

Got a great one since you don't have any in WV Sullivan's Records 1558-A Washington St E Charleston, WV 25311 I've been a regular for a couple years and they have a good mixture of used and new vinyl with rock, country, jazz, etc. They also sell books and DVDs but they keep records as their main focus.
Added, thanks!
Spin Me Round Records 1200 US-22 Phillipsburg, NJ 08865 (In Phillipsburg Mall) Both used & new records, plus used 7"s, cassettes, CDs, and books.

Moondance Vintage Clothing 202 Mallory Street, Saint Simons Island, Georgia 31522 Mostly classic rock/old pop/soul, as name implies, is a vintage store, mostly used records and older stuff.

Ernie November 217 W Lincolnway, Cheyenne, WY 82001 Carries all genres in CD, Record, and cassette tape, new and used, but probably best known locally for being able to get damn near any metal album you want. If they don't have it, they can order it. 10 bucks gets you 10% off for life.
> 10 bucks gets you 10% off for life. Can you tell me a bit more about that? Is it a sort of membership/club fee? Any other perks?
Sorry for the delay, I was waiting to hear back from the owner. So it's basically a membership that gets you 10% off everything store wide: music (used and new), shirts, incense, movies, etc. The only exception is anything that is on clearance.
Dave's Records 2604 North Clark Street Chicago, IL 60614 carry all speeds (33,45,even 78) all formats (7”, 10”, 12” single, EP , LP) all styles (rock, jazz, soul, funk, hip hop, house, disco, reggae, blues, folk, country, vocal, soundtracks, showtunes, classical, indie/alternative and every sub-genre you can imagine).
