156 grams and it's hard. There was a sad incident some years ago when the batter was hit on the neck and died from the impact in a professional game. But usually it'll just hurt like hell for a while.
Well considering a single player can and often do make more then 100 runs by themselves in a game, you would expect the scoring system to be a little more fluid.
No no but this 300 year old game is the same as yankball
Basically there is a line or rope that runs around the outside of the field of play. If the ball is hit on the full over that line, the batsman and team are awarded 6 runs automatically without needing to "run" (moving between the different ends of the pitch). Similarly, if the ball is hit over the line but bounces first, they are awarded 4.
So there is a boundary in the ground. If the ball goes directly over the boundary line, you get awarded 6 runs. Thats the highest amount of run you can score on 1 ball (excluding penalty balls). If the ball touches the ground before going over the boundary, you get 4 runs.
Cricketers don't need a rest after hitting the ball like that. He's got to get ready for the next ball. He's got one team mate out there with him, having the team come out the 70 metres just to celebrate a 6 would be really stupid.
There is 120 balls per innings in this particular format. You expect the team to come out and celebrate because they hit 1 six out of the ground? You clearly know nothing about the sport. The bowling team has a time limit to complete each innings, the ball goes straight back to the bowler for the next delivery as quickly as possible.
Classic American calling Cricket more boring than baseball.
Well this American appreciates it, just can't watch it cause it's difficult to find over here. I likely have the only Warwickshire Bears hat in the entire USA. And it is WAY better than baseball. Except a 5 day, I just don't have that kind of time...
Well six isn't a big accomplishment in cricket. A fifty or a century for a batter and wicket for the bowler. They celebrate that. Every wicket is celebrated by the bowling team as if they won the match
This ball was travelling at 92MPH. This bowler has consistently bowled at 100+MPH. They wear protection just like a baseball player wears protection… difference is, cricket players can and routinely do, get hit with the ball, but it isn’t a free walk like in baseball… and they face a hell of a lot more balls per innings. So bowlers can target the head of the batter and it’s somewhat fair play… so they like to guard the face.
No he hasn't bowled at 100mph plus, only one bowler is recorded doing so and that is dubious to say the least. Its splitting hairs but the fastest is late 90's mph.
So what happens when a ball is knocked out of the park? Cos they like to use the same ball for the whole game, right? Does someone have to go out and find the ball?
[I've been to one game](https://www.houstonpress.com/slideshow/a-cricket-festival-in-pearland-13798700) I was there for about 2 hours and in that time, only one team batted!!!!!! The scores are ridiculous like 362 - 215.
With anything it would just take time to learn the sport it's just that the games last forever, multiple hours. I'd probably watch it but it's not readily attainable on U.S. TV.
What about the smirk on his face..." Yeah, I don't wanna show it but fuck I murdered that ball. I go alright "
Lost ball. Everybody go home.

That camera can't track the ball for shit. Edit: meant to say cameraman
Iirc it's an actual person doing it on the fly so I mean ;-;
Did you think ai tracks the ball?
I thought that afterwards they went in and zoomed in on a part but apparently no, someone does it then and there and I think it's impressive
That isn’t too crazy of a thought! It takes a different kind of breed of camera work to track objects that small going close to 100 mph
It's an actual person tracking the ball during baseball games, golf matches, hockey, etc. and the camera man tracks the ball/puck just fine.
That ball is heavy right? Feel like it could kill someone on a good whack like that
Yes, people did actually die from getting beamed by the ball (made of cork) before helmets were mandated.
Hughes had a helmet
Quite unlucky as it hit on the most vulnerable part of the helmet which is the back
Hit in the head, there was a part behind the ear which wasn't covered, now it is. Super unlucky
RIP Hughesy.

The pitcher couldn't even get it over the plate without it hitting the ground. Ha

Fuckin got me for a second mate
It was actually a great pitch, in the strike zone. Would have been a great fakeout.
And what was even dumber was the batter didn't even run to first.
Dude put it into orbit
What's a six? All I can think of is this "6"
6 runs added to the score.
More than a home run in baseball lol

Maybe if the bowler was given more room to run
Must suck to be the dude whose backyard is literally right behind the stadium. Traffic and noise must suck.
Free balls occasionally
If this is Brisbane, his land alone is worth millions, I think he'll be OK

My wife's favourite player until she saw him without the helmet, poor Chris, I still love you man
So what happens in this situation? Are they allowed infinite runs or something? I know next to nothing about this sport.
So there is a boundary in the ground. If the ball goes directly over the boundary line, you get awarded 6 runs. Thats the highest amount of run you can score on 1 ball (excluding penalty balls). If the ball touches the ground before going over the boundary, you get 4 runs.
Even if you know nothing about this sport, to suggest infinite runs is a pretty silly guess.
Of course. Just goofing. But i still want to know what they do.
The batting team gets 6 runs and they get another ball and carry on.
Thanks
This guy should be getting paid way too much money by the Yankees
No bat flip? No celebration of the team at the wicket? Finally found a sport more boring than baseball. Well done.
If you celebrate and rub the bowlers nose in it, the next balls coming at your head and “bouncers” are legal.
No sweetheart, in cricket you don’t have time to celebrate after every ball.
this version of cricket is actually a lot more fun to watch, fast-paced and lots of big hits, lots more entertainment than a game of baseball imo.

Truth hurts
Sports celebrations are gross. The satisfied smirk and the handshake are about as much celebration as we need in any sport.
You need some joy in your life. They aren’t robots. I love when pro athletes are excited about a big accomplishment. Makes them human.
Well six isn't a big accomplishment in cricket. A fifty or a century for a batter and wicket for the bowler. They celebrate that. Every wicket is celebrated by the bowling team as if they won the match
If you’re bored I think the boring one is you.
Brit here: Cricket IS boring

That's good right?! I don't sports
Still cricket though, the slightly better version of baseball, the most boring sport in the world.
The only good part of both… hangin with yer mates and havin a cold adult beverage
I forgot about tait, but the rawalpindi express's is doubtful.
I just came here to watch y’all make fun of the English. You’ve disappointed me
It's an Australian bowler bowling at an Australian batsman. Sorry, showing my age here, an Australian batter.
Australian baseball anyone? Lol.
Didn't realize the "batter" needed to dress like a hockey goalie.
A cricket ball is up there with bowling balls in terms of balls to avoid being hit by
Isn't that played with a wooden ball or something?
Leather around cork. It’s hard as fuck Look up bodyline bowling
No idea about cricket. That’s why I made that statement. Didn’t need the downvotes for not knowing something you Reddit hitlers

No emotion, complete destruction
Old mate deserves a snag for that. Smashed it.
Mark Mcguire is the worlds greatest cricket player.
So what happens when a ball is knocked out of the park? Cos they like to use the same ball for the whole game, right? Does someone have to go out and find the ball?
american here, a 6 is crickets equivalent to baseballs home run, right?
Basically, yes.
interesting, ive always wanted to learn about cricket but it seems so complex and convoluted that im intimidated

Clearly foul
Best moment in BBL along with the missed run out in the final of Brett Lee over between Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers.
