I got it for 5 bucks 12 years ago from a flea market.
Had a lot of fun messing around with it since then.
But i remember something like 3 grand in 1997.
Pretty much a power house for 97's standards.
Nowadays prices for this one go up like crazy on ebay.
Yes, I remember that in the mids and late 90's a laptop was very expensive, my bought my first laptop in second hand in 2001 hand even so I paid almost 1500$ for a Compaq Presario with an Intel Celeron that I don't even remember how much RAM it had back then, I remember being able to play GTA VC and Max Payne in lower settings, tho lol
Yep me too but i was very disappointed when i found out, it was literally running in a macintosh emulator and i couldn't transfer the game files to my vintage laptop.
I mean the win version of spyfox still runs fine in win10, dunno why they didn't provide the proper versions.
I can imagine how much beef they could fix in a laptop that size now a days.... Hot nuggets, some of the new slim PC towers measure out to roughly the same...
I've got myself a micro client/ intel nuc like industrial Pc from 2016, sporting a Intel Core i3 5010U, which is probably a thousand times faster than this :)
That's definitely a nice touch.
Engineers really put a lot of thoughts into this device for sure.
It's entirely modular on the inside, similar to what framework is trying todo nowadays.
I miss the old brick electronics design. Nowadays everyone trying to make laptops as thin as humanly possible at the detriment of everything else. I bet if you designed a modern laptop in a case like this, there would be more than enough space inside to fit in a decent cooling system and a battery that lasts longer that two hours
It's actually 233Mhz.
This unit is pretty much maxed out at 144mb ram and 233mhz pentium mmx alongside a 2mb graphics card.
Sadly it doesn't have 3d acceleration but it does 32bit colors at up to 1024x768 (native resolution is 800x600 though)
Makes a decent DOS gaming machine actually.
The sound chip is fully soundblaster compatible.
It doesn't work with some of my peripherals I'm using.
Like a pcmcia cf card adaptor and an usb card.
And this thing is very capable of running 98se so that's nice.
It can even run windows xp if you really wanted to.
Clean af
That was a pretty expensive piece of technology back in the day

Some of these old lap tops are used to fix old supercars
Yeah, I mean if you manage to keep it working for another decade it might not even be sellable as nobody would even know what it is anymore.
Doom. You must install Doom.
I probably have it already somewhere. Alongside a few other classics and my all time favourites Earth Worm Jim 1&2
Yes. Do it. The classics are calling you.

I see spy fox! I purchased that entire collection in the hopes that my kids can play those games one day.

10/10. That’s a piece of history right there. Now download Doom and Quake 😄
OH MY. SHE A BEAUTY.
Wow, I’m jealous of your colour screen! Mine is green and black.
Lucky! I'm still on windows 3.1!
Perfect for game like - the settlers 2 - carmageddon - dungeon keeper And many more
Wow. And we are complaning about how big gpus are nowadays. that thing is a big chungus

Crysis?
Nah but it can run Jazz Jackrabbit 2.
I think you mean Unreal, was like the Crysis of its day
Looks (nostalgia factor) 6/10 Performance for the time period 6/10 Ability to stop a 20mm shell 10/10
Thicc/10
Damn.. I wanted to have one of these back then.
98/100
Damn this shit is top tier
my first laptop was a compaq armada 7380 DMT. I remember playing the sims 1 on it
Cute
Where did you find that wallpaper? It looks great!
I got the wallpaper, bootlogo and the stretched sound from this video (description): https://youtu.be/7D01We2aAu8
THICC AF
more rgb for more frames!!
that is the dopest pc ever!! I love windows 98 and the speakers sound amazing!!
yes
Had one of these. Played Ultima 6 and 7 on it. Those were the days
synthwave is from the 80s not the 90s
Those speakers sound really impressive
To be fair, it was connected to an external speaker.
Ah disregard! Hahah
But, next to the screen in true stereo positioning, that's where I wish laptop speakers were located today.

It certainly has a nice retro aesthetic.
It's a little thick but those Voodoo 3s can run a bit hot.
Can it play Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2?
Seems like it needs a 3d compatible graphics card with at least 16mb vram. This boi has 4mb vram and no 3d acceleration at all. So i guess it won't..
whats the specs for this badboy?

Wow! I'm gonna guess a Pentium 133 on that guy. You definitely need to get the windows version of after dark.

It will totally play dark forces 2.
.. but can it run crysis?
That startup is god tier.
Now I want to see a sleeper laptop!
I hardly ever tap to upvote anything but this gets one from me.
Still better than Mac.

Not joking i have a macbook air and i wish i had at least a 98 windows.
That's awesome! I can run doom on it!
Is that a 256 color monitor? Fancy
Hold tight: it's 32bit true color. https://preview.redd.it/vtaldmmcgmja1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&v=enabled&s=65b633df98b2d3a87708f7fde44afdf7b95fca9a
I would have gone with Win95.
It doesn't work with some of my peripherals I'm using. Like a pcmcia cf card adaptor and an usb card. And this thing is very capable of running 98se so that's nice. It can even run windows xp if you really wanted to.
pcmcia :) those were the days....
9.9/10 add some leds, then its 10/10
this is so fucking cool
Love the retro design. Are you overclocking the GPU? :P
Yes and I've downloaded more vram aswell! ;)
Good man! Lol... Respect
"It's all about the Pentiums, baby"
Can it run doom?
It can
10000/10
