This seems to be damaged by the outside source. Hardware engineer for years and never seen anything like it. Connector melting - yes, but nothing like this! Especially not on 5400rpm drive
Lol
Still a far-fetched hypothesis and supicious root cause as for me... batt. shorts and fire is possible, but HDD??? These cases were quite solid and resistant to many potential damages, so only hard el. short for long time with high current or intentional external operation to damage can caused that.
Naw the battery is in the back this is a Lenovo 3000 N200 laptop. Under the panel next to the hard drive is the DVD drive. It looks like someone took a torch to the hard drive. Which is honestly way too much the platters of the drive are literally metalized glass they shatter super easy to a hammer if you want to permanently disable the drive.
People have no idea how heavy even small forklifts are. That back half is literally just pure steel counterweight; they will flatten anything.
I worked in a wood shop, and was genuinely more scared of the forklifts than the CNCs and table saws… at least those had failsafes.
A forklift doesn’t give a fuck. Heavier than a car with a ton of torque and weird hydraulics… fucking death machines
Yeah fork lifts are no joke they are literally designed to be smacked around and still function there practically small tanks that don't protect the occupant. A bob cat is probably safer than a forklift
> Which is honestly way too much the platters of the drive are literally metalized glass they shatter super easy to a hammer if you want to permanently disable the drive.
Can confirm.
I was going through old HDD drives that I didn't know what was on them and didn't want to find out, just wanted them gone. Took a hammer to them and after only 1 or 2 hits you could hear the disc inside had shattered into a thousand pieces.
Also old tech. I see what looks like a metal prong or whats left of a connector riiiight above the carnage. Betcha that's straight to battery positive.
I have on other Lenovo 2 in 1's, their combo SATA date and power cable adaptors normally blow like a fuse and with start smoking as well. I'd had to replace parts on those to get them working again. Normally needs a new adaptor and HDD to get working again.
Its not mine. I'd get anyone one with one to avoid using them and get rid of it.
For the one i'm referring to, the person who owns and uses it, its happened twice.
I also believe its a known issue on specific models of Lenovo's due to it being an over engineered part.
No, even if you could forcefully increase the RPM over the locked limit, the only thing you’d do is crash (and even damage) your drive.
Mechanical drives are very precise pieces of machinery, they work safely only on their set parameters.
I'm calling BS on this.
Hard drive motors do NOT have the power to do that.
Messing with naked drives before and even touchining a feather to the platter would slow it down so no way it's going to spin up that fast.
This is why we have HDD's with toolless removal. It get very expensive trying to remove it with an acetylene torch because you have the wrong size screwdriver.
Have you tried to turn it off and on again - Microsoft support after you sendt them a picture of a laptop with a display that’s ripped of the keyboard part
Did you turn it off for 5 seconds and turn it back on. If that doesn't work unplug it and leave it off for 10 minutes. If that doesn't help try recharging it in the microwave.
Because this is obviously a super isolated incident. I have an HDD (5TB) for storing my games on, and when I wanna play one Ill bring it over to my M.2 drive. Or, for smaller games that are under 15GB I just boot them from the HDD. So what if load times are 40 seconds longer?
Because neither of us has a decent salary, and I didnt sell my organs to bloody Bob down in the alleyway when getting a pc. Instead most people scrape up what money they have and buy a hard drive because they are dirt cheap, store loads and realistically a HDD will work only about a year or so shorter than a top teir SSD.
Holy Christ, I just told someone that I've seen just about everything in another post but I've never seen this shit. Did the hell from DOOM leak out of the simulation? God damn!
One too many Molotovs I think
He was trying to acquire a copy of CS2
Someone must have naded the smoke coming out of his pc
“Blowing” according to Flom and shrouds stream last night
[удалено]
was wondering what could have caused this and I'm fairly sure it's some kind of torch yeah.
I knew the volumetric smoke was going to be introduced but I didn't think it would be this intense.
Yh the whole nade thing is crazy. It’s not as big as everyone first thought, but it’s still really major
CSGO 2
It’s going to be called counter strike 2, I wonder what will happen to the global offensive name
This seems to be damaged by the outside source. Hardware engineer for years and never seen anything like it. Connector melting - yes, but nothing like this! Especially not on 5400rpm drive Lol
Guessing that the devices lithium ion battery in the upper compartment cooked off shooting a flame into the HDD bay.
That doesn’t look like a battery compartment, it’s an odd shape and not big enough.
I think they meant https://preview.redd.it/4e4iyx343jpa1.png?width=1079&format=pjpg&auto=webp&v=enabled&s=68a91f0c83a0b07d680728ce3139139230225139
Ahh yeah, that could happen.
Nice drawing lol
Thanks I have a Master's in Screenshot Markup.
Ngl this made it clear what happened without me having to zoom in on the power supply sticker to see what it was.
Beautiful

I’ve heard of some companies that gave their old drives to the forklift operators to demolish using the forklift

Yeah, they do make for effective can crushers though, I used to crush cans for my colleagues

I'm guessing it's just the usual cheapness of laptops and prebuilts.
Also old tech. I see what looks like a metal prong or whats left of a connector riiiight above the carnage. Betcha that's straight to battery positive.
Yea, that part of a spinner mech doesn't have anything in it other than the other edge of the platter.
Its a propane torch mark

>...normally blow like a fuse... Normally? How many times has this happen to you and more importantly why on earth do you even have it still?

Bro thought increasing HDD's rpm will make it R/W faster
Wouldn't it?
No, even if you could forcefully increase the RPM over the locked limit, the only thing you’d do is crash (and even damage) your drive. Mechanical drives are very precise pieces of machinery, they work safely only on their set parameters.
Seeing a naked hard drive spin the platters until they shatter is so awesome.
I'm calling BS on this. Hard drive motors do NOT have the power to do that. Messing with naked drives before and even touchining a feather to the platter would slow it down so no way it's going to spin up that fast.
Got a video?
Calling BS on it. that's not how hard drive motors work.
Ok
Never thought to record it.
Could you record one ?
Must have been the upgraded "Dyson Turbo" edition!
That's not where the motor, that's for the reading arm.
Firegate
No, that's not what burning your own discs meant...
Yeah watch out for that, corruption spreads a lot faster in hard mode, I suggest isolating that part of the drive
If you look closely, you can see a little mouse coming out of it, found your culprit.
Did you drop some thermite into your PC or something?
Looks like a meteor strike
All I see is a mouse trying to escape...
He wasn’t a good worker. He got fired.
When you go to save your latest mix tape
This is why we have HDD's with toolless removal. It get very expensive trying to remove it with an acetylene torch because you have the wrong size screwdriver.
Segate moment
Not on a 5400 rpm HDD...
Did you unzip the Ark of the Covenant?
Have you tried to turn it off and on again - Microsoft support after you sendt them a picture of a laptop with a display that’s ripped of the keyboard part

He tried to install Half life 3 on it.
You had to run Nero on a HDD

It's just a flesh wound.
did you put it in rice? it would help allot!
This happens then you try to save too many spicy memes.
Is my brain making me see things: I see a burnt mouse inside the HDD
When you offload your consciousness to a computer and it starts reading all the cringy memories at 1am.

Apparently it CAN'T run Crysis, but at least it tried
Time to upgrade to a SSD.
I should call her..
what the fuck even happened? how is that even possible. you splashed some thermite or something on it?
This is why we don’t overclock our hard drives.
Data deleted
Standard Seagate issues
If HDD could overclock!
Did you turn it off for 5 seconds and turn it back on. If that doesn't work unplug it and leave it off for 10 minutes. If that doesn't help try recharging it in the microwave.
Just don’t remove the white label, will void warranty otherwise.
https://i.redd.it/xmzeglyaokpa1.gif
WTH? That’s crazy never seen that before
That’s a 16 year old hard drive, no wonder it blew up!
120GB 5400RPM made in 2007 no big loss.
Bro tried to run hl3 they downloaded off of some sketch website
Whats that chad setup you got there
alt f4 doesnt work in games now, this is the next strat i will adopt
when i run hogwarts legacy for 2 hours straigh
Why idiots even bother with HDs in 2023 is beyond me.
It's old hardware. The drive itself was manufactured in 2007.
Because 8tb nvme gen4's are still $1130 and the idiots who think they know better won't donate their cash to us poor folk. 8tb hdd's run $140-170.
Because this is obviously a super isolated incident. I have an HDD (5TB) for storing my games on, and when I wanna play one Ill bring it over to my M.2 drive. Or, for smaller games that are under 15GB I just boot them from the HDD. So what if load times are 40 seconds longer?
For the cost of an 8TB NVMe, I bought 32TB of HDD. If you need bulk storage, it's the only way.
I think you got played
Did you now I thought all hard drives came with a preinstalled fire
Bye-bye, hard-drive
Good thing you didnt remove the sticker, still got that warranty 🤣🤣
Man tried to play Cyberpunk2077 back in 2020
Sooooo, does it work?
Damn
Fuck around And find out
You won't play a lot tonight
Is this what happens when you cover the hole?
I know you can do a lot but how the hell did you manage to do it? Did you overclock your HDD till it reached the speed of sound or what...?
Sheesh..
SSD time
wow. never actually seen that before.
And you'll be playing less tonight
Minecraft with loads of mods?
Reminds me of my first hard drive.. Quantum Fireball lol
Dude, wth were you playing?!
Define “a lot”.
I guess your hardrive was blown away by the amount of playtime. I'll guide myself out
Your lucky your house did not burn down.
try defragemetimg your drive
Don’t cover the hole.
Holy Christ, I just told someone that I've seen just about everything in another post but I've never seen this shit. Did the hell from DOOM leak out of the simulation? God damn!
Old ass pc
This is fine
You were definitely on fire
Played a lot with a torch?
He just burned out during all this time
Tf were you playing?
I have questions only cause of the force that blew out with
its just a bit crispy
Won't be doing that tonight
Were you throwing lit blowrorches around the house again?
Ohh it's the ol' Superman death-ray. Happened to us a few times.
Is this how to escape from tarkov?
Yo, wtf??
That poor seagate...
It's just a drive from 2007....
Don’t know what gaming you were doing on a Lenovo from 2007 but dam
Too many TNT in his world rip
Never have I seen a hard drive do this, that's insane, I didn't even think this possible. Is it the battery somehow burnt through?
It’ll buff right out
Looks like your hard drive just had a demon child it just wanted to be released and fuck shit up 🤣🤣🤣
Did you try restarting your computer?
Have you tried switching it off and back on again
Played with Fire.
Tried to play crysis on max settings
I thought that was a squirrel at first
I'm sure Louis Rossmann could fix it.
it looks like a bullet was shot through your hard drive? Im guessing your data is probably corrupted now lol
That Seagate drive was from 2007... Man. Battery was just doing you a favor. 😂
RIP 2007-2023
POV: you tried to download the Master Chief Collection
He opened gmod with 9000 mods
played what? cyberpunk?
Is warranty void now?
Congratulations! It’s an environmental hazard!
I know! you were on fire last night! heh
Feelssadman
“Acid for blood”? or was it a meteorite?
