Love how the correct answers are getting downvoted. Yes, they can kill prey animals on the map, just like mountain lions do. It doesn't happen that often, but during their feed time when you hear the "chasing" vocalisation, an animal may get flagged as having been killed shortly after. If you are on pc, you can easily test this out using the population scanner to keep track of your population file. It's not an obvious mechanic, but it does happen.

I'm glad that exists. Before I figured this out I was kinda bummed that the lions didn't kill things

I_EAT_LIZARDS

But I’m a little bummed since it could’ve been a diamond

Warfighter416

Tis just the way the hunt goes my friend. Nothing you can do but move forward and hope that one respawns as a higher score animal

I_EAT_LIZARDS

I have 2 albinos and 1 crowned that would’ve been 2 but my game crashed and a bunch of diamonds so it’s not like I don’t have one

Warfighter416

I've got a lot of what I call spiritual diamonds. They should have been diamonds but they weren't for one reason or another, be it bad timing for a game mechanic to take effect or it didn't count a vital hit. I had a diamond red deer dead to rights and right as I pull the trigger the breath hold gives out. Animal dropped immediately and I held my breath as I ran to it. I hit the spinal cord but missed the lungs by about an inch or so. A second later and it would have buried him and got the trophy

Do you have a video or something showing this? I have spent an unfortunate number of hours playing this game, and I have never seen that happen. I have the population scanner so that I didn't lose my mind when GO grinding, and I have never noticed it on there. Without some evidence to the contrary, I'm gonna have to respectfully disagree.

WangxianInventedLove

I can only tell you that I noticed it a handful of times this year, both with wildebeest and gemsbok in Vurhonga, and with blackbucks and axis deer in Parque. All of them dropping dead according to the scanner without me firing a shot. And every time there was a chasing vocalisation right before it happened. If I'm bored I'll try catching them in the act for you :D

Adryrainshallcome

I'll try to keep my eyes peeled. Thanks for the response!

WangxianInventedLove

I actually managed to record it happening earlier today, but videos are still disabled, so here you go: [https://streamable.com/j76yws](https://streamable.com/j76yws) The format/resolution aren't great, I just played around with Obs a bit and then managed to catch it right away while testing it out. But you can see me starting up the game and loading into Parque in single player. Then, within a minute of the chasing vocalisation, a female mule deer was flagged as killed without me ever equipping a weapon. Maybe I'll try to get a better resolution for when video uploads are permitted again, then people have something to refer to when this comes up in the future :)

Adryrainshallcome

You're on top of it. Thanks so much! I can't think of any other explanation, so I stand corrected!

WangxianInventedLove

No problem! It's always good to remain skeptical about stuff like this :)

Funny-Mix7889

Yes they can kill I've found this alot .

Beluga_Katt

If you find what they killed can you harvest them?

Funny-Mix7889

Unfortunately not

Beluga_Katt

aw man

Broundjf

i believe so but i’m not 100% sure, i know mountain lions can

WangxianInventedLove

You're correct, both lions and mountain lions can occasionally remove animals from the population.

I_EAT_LIZARDS

Will there be a body?

Head_Kaleidoscope_53

Hey can someone answer this while we’re on the topic of lions. When I hear them growl right next to me, does that mean they are hunting me?
